The fact is the site is running dodgy adverts. Whether or not you agree with with eset blocking these does not change that fact.
I myself would rather eset blocked these things and then leave it up to the user to decide if they want to add it as an exception. Users wouldn't be happy if they didn't have an adblocker and got infected because eset didn't block them.

In reality though most companies will not help people who have bought their products from an illegal reseller.
Again though I do agree that the person on the chat should have explained things more rather than saying that is not your license which you could read as you stole it.
I think maybe there should be a script for future when this happens to avoid any misunderstandings e.g. with the eset rep explaining that the license has been miss sold and the seller was a scammer. This should stop the victim feeling at fault or feeling they are being accused of something

peteyt received kudos from ebill in Why ESET firewall rules don't work for ESET's own traffic?
Surely blocking eset rules will in turn block things such as updating meaning you won't have the latest signatures and bug fixes.
I get people want to be in control of their computer and connections and privacy etc. But surely with an AV you give them access to all your files technically anyways so you should trust them. Yes I know some AVs have had issues in the past but Eset have always been very transparent and also give you clear options to disable things e.g. marketing and usage collection etc.

peteyt gave kudos to thunderrd in Can I place all firewall rules on a single page, rather than only 200?
Yes, and this is the problem.  If a rule is #205 and you want to move it to be #190, you can't simply use the ^ button.  You can only move the rule to position 201 [the first rule on the second page].  It is mind-boggling that the editor does not have the capability to move it to any position in the ruleset.
So you have to work around it by using a bunch of user shenanigans: 1)move the rule to the top of the second page[#201], 2) delete rule #200, so that #201 moves onto the first page, replacing #200, 3)move it to the position on the first page where you want it, 4)manually create and add the rule that used to be #200, now it will be #201, at the top of the second page.
It's a mess, and I see no other way to do it.  The editor is simply not built to correctly handle rule order manipulation, especially if there are more than 200 rules.  Why not simply have a selection button at the bottom of the list that selects how many rules are to be visible on a page?  Like Google: How many results to be shown on one page? 20/50/100/200/300
But it doesn't stop there.  It isn't even convenient to re-order rules when there are only 200 of them, either.
The capability to order the rules in the rules editor is sorely lacking in features that the old interface had.  A glaring one is the inability to drag/drop the rules into position; this we were able to do before this inferior ruleset editor replaced the old one.  So, if a rule is say, #190 and you want it to be #60, you have to hit the little ^ button 130 times to get it there.  What dev in their right mind made that decision?
Couple that shortcoming with the inability to move rules between pages of the list and it is a big fail.  Don't get me wrong; I have been an ESET user for more than 15 years and have complete faith in the function of the software, but to be honest, it isn't particularly user-friendly anymore.
I complained about the lack of drag/drop and other regressions 4 YEARS AGO, in this thread: https://forum.eset.com/topic/9625-eset-9x-ui-is-a-total-disappointment-much-worse-than-before/
And itman, you were a contributor to that thread as well.
That was when it was version 9.x.  It's now at 13.x and NOTHING has been done.  Marcos reported it to the devs then.  Apparently it is not an important enough feature to be worked on.

I don't understand why this is even a conversation. The Kaspersky UI has changed very little since 2012 and I would take the ESET UI over it any day. That said it wouldn't hurt my feeling if they added a little more color to it but it is perfectly functional as is. I remember when all vendors used to replace the UI every year and it took another half year to work out the bugs.

Was that option in the mobile version of the forum in the past? The mobile version isn't 1:1 to the desktop version and may be missing some elements that are not used a lot by users.
Anyways, we have made a change so that if you open a topic with unread posts it will jump to the first unread post automatically.

peteyt received kudos from lowlanda in Gamer Mode: Why there's no shortcut/hotkey way to activate it?
The problem is that the user is playing the games in a windowed mode so it won't detect as its not full screen.
There are two suggestions that would possibly fix this although the first one is one I've brought up a few times and know they have seen it and it isn't probably an easy fix and certainly not a priority
    1. The option to change what you see when you right click the eset icon. That way users can add things they use the most such as enable gaming mode, open firewall troubleshooter etc. While certainly not a critical feature I think this would be an interesting one as it gives users some choice.
    2. The other thing which I don't know if it exists is the ability to add specific games into eset so eset would turn on the gamer mode automatically when this game launches regardless of if that game is in full screen or not but if you've got loads of games this might be a little annoying and time consuming.
Like the user has posted also keyboard shortcuts could also be a potential solution.
The problem is that some users may end up leaving gaming mode enabled which I presume isn't the best idea. Yes they are protected stl but notifications won't be shown and other stuff

You might want to say that all that white, empty spaces etc make for a somewhat boring and at times confusing experience. However, i wouldn't change that much. All what i'd add in that main menu screen is a search function to find what i need ASAP when i need it. I am fairly fine with all the rest. But that's me.

I get eset might not be the best to look at but I'm confused about your chose of words, one in particular. Boring.
An antivirus is there to protect users and the most important thing should be that it does its job. How it looks can play a part but really you just want a UI that is easy to navigate and familiarity does play a part and the average user will tend to leave their AV running in the background to do its job without opening it much if it all.

I've tried many AVs and kept moving in the past unhappy with them but once I switched to eset I've never looked back. Doesn't hog the system, good detection and good support

Yeah, I know they have seen it so don't really want to post on here, but being able to change what you see when you right click the eset icon would be handy. E.G. You could add gamer mode, firewall troubleshooter etc.

That is exactly running the troubleshooter wizard. Sometimes I've seen stuff blocked but what Marcos is saying is if you've had no issues its best not to go in there and unblock anything. That area is designed so if you find your having problems with something not working you can go in there and see if anything if maybe being blocked and unblock it.
You should be fine but it's hard to know exactly why something is being  blocked.
I did find at one point when using the public network setting in Eset a lot of stuff was blocked in the network troubleshooter that wasn't when switched to home but some do recommend using public. The link below explains how to check and change this setting

As for the browser control part unsure about this. If it happens again see if you can get a screenshot of the actual message

You really have to ask Microsoft "the rhyme an reasoning" behind this. My best guess is to make it difficult for malware to drop a bogus Store app there.

Eset should be fine without any other security program. Some people may use other AVs as a second opinion scanner but it is important that these don't have real time protection features or if they do they are disabled as running more than one real time AV can cause a lot of compatibility issues

Just a heads up to let you know the user appears to be a spam bot. I've reported them as well. Seems to be the same as usual, user posts something  to then later on edit the posts to add links probably hoping no mods will look back it at.
Just wondering if there would be a way to have it so new users can't post links or would this cause problems for genuine users?

    I would!
Also the best way to provide this for the consumer market would be to offer an Eset Internet Security "Professional" version where the fee would be added to license amount. Throw in further enhancements such as global wildcard support in the HIPS to support "living off the land" attacks. Or better, build those rules in the HIPS using NoVirusThanks OSArmor rules as guide and now you have a truly "awesome" Eset product.

peteyt gave kudos to itman in If You Use Licensing Cracking Software, You Need To Read This
It appears that a number of Eset users employ license "crackers." It also appears that a number of Eset forum participants feel that the most widely used , the KMS software family of crackers, are safe. As noted in this recent analysis of KMS based software by AVLabs in Poland, they are definitely not safe to use.

KMSAuto and KMSpico are the most commonly installed hacktool on computers in Poland

The only thing that might not work is the banking protection which launches banking sites in a specially designed browser window. However using eset without banking protection is still secure.
I can't say what browsers will/won't work as I use chrome which is compatible.

I use Automatic firewall myself now (used to use interactive mode). I believe you can disable Chrome updates without the need for the firewall https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/stop-automatic-chrome-updates-windows/ This will at least stop chrome updating automatically itself.
You could run the firewall after than it interactive mode and try to update and possibly tell eset to block it however you may block the wrong thing.
