Hijin25 12
Greetings. Anyone know why AV-TEST no longer tests with ESET? I read the news that the Windows 10 antivirus was ranked among the best, and when I go to the AV-TEST page there are no ESET results.
Guest
I had a very long chat with the senior malware researcher at ESET and it was quoted that they only participate in the business category of AV TEST at present . It was quoted that there is not much difference in detection between home user and business user product. Both product of ESET receive same database updates. Also the senior malware researcher quoted that AV TEST charges a huge amount for any AV vendor to get tested. Here you go with business link detection : Windows(business) : https://www.av-test.org/en/antivirus/business-windows-client/ macOS (business) : https://www.av-test.org/en/antivirus/business-macos/ Android (business) : https://www.av-test.org/en/antivirus/business-mobile-devices/ And as of now they will only continue to get tested under business category instead of home user category. Guest
Over few months or I must say 1-2 years microsoft windows defender (available in windows 10) has improved a lot (or more than a lot) and now on an average it detects 100% of malware that are hand picked by AV TEST. That being said but as known, no AV is best at detecting all the samples.
Hijin25 12
Thanks for your reply. Personally, I don't trust microsoft antivirus, so I was surprised when I read the news of the results of AV-TEST and entered the page to see the results personally. And I was very surprised that ESET, given its importance and popularity was not analyzed. I didn't know that AV-TEST charges to scan the antivirus, excuse me. Guest
no work is done for free here you go with the link of AV COMPARATIVES : microsoft scoring 100% here also. Microsoft has started being better in past 2 years. https://www.av-comparatives.org/comparison/
itman 1,538
As far as AV labs tests go, they have to be scrutinized for discrepancies. For example, on the latest comparative from A-V Comparatives, Windows Defender had an unusually high false positive rate using a much smaller malware sample size. Whereas on the latest AV-Test business test, WD had a low FP rate for a much larger malware sample size. Bottom line - take AV lab test results as a rough approximation in regards to a security solutions real world malware performance. Also always review as many test reports as you can from different AV labs and again, look for discrepancies. Aryeh Goretsky
Guest
Well yes, we do have many av testing companies..... Av test, av comparitives, mrg effitas, se labs, virusbtn, toptenreviews etc But due to large number of testing companies and not every vendor participating in every companies test, one should know that all vendors in todays world detect all of the dangerous malicious samples of any kind. So one can go with any vendor. I am personally using eset because of its performance and better pup and pua detection. For me malware detection of eset is on average side when i compare it with bitdefender and kaspersky.

During that entire time, I've never had a malware hit the disk for Eset to detect upon subsequent execution. Granted I don't do high risk stuff like gaming, social media, and the like. But I do blindly click away in the browser unabated.
Guest
I have myself been using eset for 2 years now. I have had malware attacks because i used to do malicious stuffs and play with malicious files, but they havent harmed my system yet because it was all done under vm. Further a month before i submitted ransomware sample to eset which was undetected by eset and after a look up by research team, detection was released against that sample as msil\filecoder
Hijin25 12
I have used ESET products since 2008, and despite some minor errors in operation and changes in the product that I did not like, it is the most trusted antivirus that inspires me. As stated somewhere here a lot are paid for by vendors and while there is nothing wrong with this there is always the possibilty of bad practises where one secretley pays more. AV tests in general can be easily made to look favourably on a specifc AV. I am not stating that AV test does any of these just that i reccomend taking any test by anyone with a pinch of salt and they do not show normal use e.g. average users dont normally dowload all these things at once or shoudnt ha
TomFace 539
I use the daily "seat of my pants" results. I know what works for me. No A/V program is 100%...that's why they get updated and evolve. In my opinion, these A-V test results (no matter who publishes them) only provide the trolls with food (in addition to being (for me) worthless data). We all know (or at least should know) that you never feed a troll. zfactor 11
like some others here i have had systems running eset for a VERY long time. going all the way back to nod 2.0 (even have experience prior to that) and those systems have never had an infection. i can not say that for MANY other av's. while i would of course like to see all the test results i dont think it makes a huge difference anymore. to many variables between tests and to many opinions. there are only a very very few av's i trust on a very short list and eset has always made that list. if you know me i do extensive testing myself on every av i try and i have been around av's for MANY years now. If you have a personal experience with that, we'd be interested in looking into it. Have you personally come across malware that was detected by the said AVs and could be sucessfully executed with ESET installed and the computer fully patched and RDP secured? Anastasia21 1
I was also wondering the same. No one really answered as to why ESET don't participate in AV tests which it should. ram1220

Eset does participate in AV-Test Commercial/Endpoint comparative testing: https://www.av-test.org/en/antivirus/business-windows-client/ . Since Eset Endpoint Internet Security is essentially the same as Eset Internet Security, they appear to have wanted to save a few bucks. If anything, EIS has more protection mechanisms than EES. -EDIT- Other AMTSO member AV labs where Eset is tested are: https://www.av-comparatives.org/ https://www.mrg-effitas.com/test-library/ https://selabs.uk/en/reports/consumers https://www.virusbulletin.com/testing/results/latest/vb100-antimalware Edited October 25, 2019 by itman Aryeh Goretsky
