ESS 9 - Desktop Notifications
stackz replied to stackz's topic in ESET Internet Security & ESET Smart Security Premium
This still remains unfixed in 10.0.369.0 The issue was posted to centercode during v10 beta testing, heck, I even made a video to demonstrate the problem. Why is it so difficult to position the device notification as compared to all others? -
Having a username and password was only needed with the old licensing system. Now, you only need a license key for registration.

Just install over the top.

Where are the notifications?

Go to Advanced Setup -> Update -> Basic and make sure "Disable display notification about successful update" is not enabled. -

I think you'll find that you have Microsoft employees hiding in your roof and/or crawl space. Look around the room for any suspicious periscopes or binoculars.

The same holds true for versions 9 and 10 beta. -
Remove the scheduled task that points to app.vbs

Make a new rule with Action = Ask and Operations affecting Applications. At the next screen select All Applications. Next, Select the Application operations you wish to potentially block. Next, Select Specific Applications, Click on Add and browse to your Download folder. You should end up with a path that looks like: C:\Users\<username>\Downloads\*.* Click on Finish and test your rule.

Version 9.0.349 is the latest release. i.e. it is not beta -
Boot the PC into safe mode and you should be able to delete it. Before you try the above, go into advanced setup -> Tools -> Log Files and click on Optimize. See if that makes any difference.

The java script in question is only triggered if Internet Explorer is detected (via the user agent) as the browser being used.

Run ESET Log Collector (hxxp://support.eset.com/kb3466/), then PM Marcos and attach the logs. If the logs are too large to attach, then upload them to somewhere like SendSpace and PM the download link.

On v9.0.349, my first alert is for PUA spsetup129.exe. If I click Ignore for this alert, then I receive an alert for a *.part file. If I then just let the alert notification sit on the desktop and not select any option, the download completes. After that I just click ignore to dismiss the notification.

You should find it in the directory "C:\ProgramData\ESET\ESET Smart Security\Installer"
