  1. Hello, This is an issue that ESET is aware of, and will address in a future version of the software. At this point, though, I do not have a date for when that will occur. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
  2. Hello, As I understand it, a fairly comprehensive collection of wallpaper can be found in ESET's photo album on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/eset/photos_albums. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
  3. Hello, To get back onto the original subject... If you actually are having trouble with the icon for an ESET program being displayed on your desktop, by all means, let us know, and we'll look into fixing it. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that ESET is company which makes security software, and graphics, while an important part of programs' attractiveness, is going to take a back row to other considerations. Adding custom icons to ensure compatibility with third-party custom skins, non-standard PPI scaling, etc. all takes up space in a program, and I think that most (some? many? all?) of ESET's customers would rather have a program that uses less memory than more, even if it's only a few tens or hundreds of kilobytes for graphics. I appreciate all the feedback everyone's shared so far in this thread, as well as the interesting ideas about how ESET's programs might look in the future. Hmm... perhaps we should start a new thread, just on that subject. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
  4. Hello, As there is already an ongoing message thread about this in the security incident on forum.eset.com message thread, please continue the discussion there. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
  5. Hello, Perhaps it is more of an issue where people who install PUAs like this toolbar are more likely to make other mistakes which allow the introduction of malware into their computing environment? In this case, the presence of the toolbar may serve more as a "warning canary" or precursor to an actual infection. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
  6. Hello, Just so you are aware, you can toggle text mode in the user interface on and off by pressing Ctrl+G. This will make the program easier to use with screen readers like JAWS, Windows-Eyes and so forth. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
  7. Hello, Are you viewing the email in your web browser, or downloading it from Outlook.Com into an email client like Thunderbird, Outlook 2013, and so forth? Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
  8. Hello, I would suggest contacting ESET's UK distributor if you have a question about pricing. I'm not familiar with how each distributor sells in their territory, but sometimes there are various promotions and specials they can apply if you ask for them when inquiring about a purchase or renewal. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
  9. Hello, The proxy server may be located outside your network at your ISP (or even their ISP, for that matter). Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
  10. Hello, Check the clock on your computer. Perhaps the date is set to near the time in 2016 (June 6, 2016?) when the license expires. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
  11. Hello, Detection will be added for Win32./TrojanDownloader.Agent.APG trojan in the next signature update. Thank you for your report. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
  12. Hello, Perhaps if you could upload the ESET SysInspector log(s) in question to a server and send download instructions via Private Message, one of our support engineers could take a look glance through the logs. Sometimes a second set of eyeballs helps. I understand your frustration about the Symantec Norton Removal Tool requiring manual intervention to remove NIS from your Lenovo computers. Just to check, have you asked your Lenovo rep about getting machines without the NIS preload? If you are buying 200 systems at a time, I would think they is something they could accomplish via a CTO build. Also, have you tried contacting Symantec directly to see if they offer a non-interactive version of the Symantec Norton Removal Tool that could be scripted? I can understand them not wanting to provide such a tool for public download as it could be componentized by malware authors, but perhaps something is available upon request. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
  13. [Many off-topic posts removed. AG] As mentioned previously, ESET does not sell it's software in embargoed countries such as Iran, Cuba, etc., and will block attempts to pirate its software in those countries. Having answered that question, we will draw this thread to a close. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
  14. Hello, Okay, the X220 I have has not been turned on for several weeks, so it has 36 updates (approximately 1,080MB) to install. I first let ESET Smart Security 7.0.302.26 download all of its updates, and waited for it to finish and the system begin to idle (3% CPU) before starting Windows Update. I began the install of updates at 11:56 PM with CPU utilization at about 45% until updates finished downloading at 11:59. At this point, installation of the updates begain, with CPU utilization hitting around 65% at 12:02, peaking a few times at 100% at 12:04 before dropping down to 75% at 12:05 and dropping about 10% a minute after that until 12:08, when installation finished. At around 12:10, system utilization suddenly rose again to 80%, dropping down to 11% at 12:12 (looks like a scan just ran, judging from disk activity. The machine's now idling at 9% and I've done a restart to apply the updates. System back up and running at 12:15 and now idling, Hrm... I looked quickly through the log files you sent over, and noticed that in the ESET SysInspector logs there seems to be a lot of software and hardware attached to the X220 that I don't have. I'm going to follow up with our tech support engineers on Monday to go over the logs further with them. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
  15. Hello, Can you tell us which ESET product and version you are using? License expiry notification behavior can vary based on these. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
  16. Hello, Okay. I have a ThinkPad X220 (i7, 16GB, 120 mSATA SSD) running Windows 8.1 Update Pro x64 that I have not installed the latest round of Windows Updates on, which is very similar to the scenario you reported. I will power it up when I get home and see if I can help to repro the issue. Just to check, what are you using to monitor CPU usage, just the regular Task Manager/Performance Monitor combo, or something else? Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
  17. Hello, I was reading through your report, and noticed you mentioned the problem started to occur as soon as you installed ESET Smart Security on the computer. What security software, if any, was installed on the computer before ESET Smart Security? Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
  18. Hello, Just to confirm, are you talking about the specific act of upgrading Windows 8 x64 to Windows 8.1 (or Windows 8.1 to Windows 8.1 Update), or the monthly installation of Windows Updates (so-called "Patch Tuesday" updates)? Also, are you running Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro, Windows 8 Enterprise or some other version? Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
  19. Hello, ESET's country-level distributors have 24×7 contact with support, developers, research, etc. In the U.S., 24×7 support contracts are available, but I believe they for enterprise customers, not resellers. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
  20. Hello, Note that it may take a few hours for the release information on the web site to be updated. The version you get from the download servers is the latest version, however. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
  21. Hello, The Windows-based version of ESET SysRescue created using WAIK/WADK will likely continue to be available in the future, however, I don't think it will be featured as prominently. There are still some situations where customers might want to use it (specific system configurations that Windows supports that Linux doesn't, etc.).. ESET SysRescue Live CD is not a protection program. It will clean infected PCs, of course, however, it's not the same as having a realtime protection program ala ESET NOD32 Antivirus, ESET Smart Security, etc. on there. I don't think that anyone sees this as a replacement for that. One of the big reasons for releasing the Linux version is getting around the various customer pain points¹ surrounding the Windows build. It's ~30% the download size, and the customer doesn't have to download an x64 version of ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus, then go back and download the x86 version in order to have the proper files to put on the WinPE image, etc. What this is seen as is a free tool that helps people remove malware, just like the other free cleaners ESET provides, the ESET Online Scanner, ESET SysInspector, etc. The only real major difference between those other programs and ESET SysRescue Live is that this also helps ESET's support engineers help people, because it has the remote connection tools built-in. Now, if someone who is not an ESET customer comes along and uses it, that's okay, too. Perhaps they'll even think about becoming one, but there's no sense in being aggressive about it: ESET would burn whatever goodwill it generated with providing a free tool by antagonizing everyone who used it with ads. No one wants to see the ESET Android do that, after all. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky ¹Oh dear. I can't believe I said that. I've been hanging out with too many marketing people.
  22. Hello, It's actually the next-to-latest build of MemTest86+. It will be updated to a newer version in the future after testing. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
