  1. Problem is a lot refuse to upgrade from obsolete versions even after they are warned. Yet the same people are the ones that will kick off and flame MS when they get infected or something because they are using something unsupported that is out of date. Don't get me wrong MS and windows isn't perfect, far from it, but your asking for trouble if you don't update/upgrade. It's the same with users who use very old eset versions. Even if it still gets signature updates a lot of the newer technologies are not included. For example I've seen a few people complain about getting ransomware infections. Usually a lot of these don't have RDP locked down properly and eset password protected but a lot also where using old versions that didn't have the ransomware shield module. Not to mention newer versions also include bug fixes
  2. Problem is every OS suffers from things such as vunrabilities, bugs etc. Problem is a lot of people don't update their systems. A lot of wannacry victims where using XP still for example which has been unsupported for years.
  3. Yeah it seems a lot is getting lost in translation but the user seems to be using multiple security products to.
  4. Still confused - your mentioning scans for adaware rescue disks but on an eset forum. Do you have eset - if your problem is with adware you would have to contact adaware as this forum is for eset products. If your using eset, I'd recommend going to the website and finding support and opening a ticket as they probably would be better able to assist you - I presume support may be available in your native language to, as I belive some stuff are getting lost in translation
  5. While possibly unrelated someone else was posting about auto.it the other day although they wanted to exclude it. If I'm correct it is classed as a PUA. Do you have PUA detection enabled?
  6. Would be maybe a handy option if eset could be set for specific browsers to launch in private mode when using BPP but not sure if it would be possible
  7. I'm slightly confused. You say you can open it from the tray icon on boot up and that is how it should work. Also you said the ecair test file is blocked. This is what should happen. The file isn't a virus but acts like one for testing. The fact eset blocks it shows it is working. Only thing I can think of is maybe you could try to use a screen capture program to show eset not working and that might help us identify the issue
  8. From what I gather it should popup for people using windows 7 because it is no longer supported by Microsoft - while eset can still protect windows 7 any security program becomes limited when an OS stops receiving patches. However there was a bug that meant if people had upgraded from windows 7 to 10, eset didn't realise and so alerted the user as it still thought they were using 7.
  9. I'd like to also add checkpoint security is mentioned suggesting the user has multiple security programs installed which is a bad idea. Although a lot of the mentioned stuff seemed unrelated
  10. I mean what is the best distro for new users - one that uses a decent UI
  11. Yeah each time Microsoft releases a new version it seems to cause issues for programs like these. I do need to try Linux. I'm sure I have it on a USB but I've always been put off mainly because I've heard you need to often use the command prompt. Even people who have told me you can get ones with a good GUI have told me sometimes you might need to use the command prompt
  12. Do you mean you purchased it for a phone rather than your laptop accidentally or you purchased it for your laptop on your phone? If you purchased the wrong product you could contact eset for either a refund or to swap although it may depend on pricing
  13. If this is utorrent it does seem risky these days. I'd recommend using Qbittorent which is similar but no advertising
  14. I myself only upgraded to windows 7 when I lost my XP serial but ever since I've always upgraded to the new version - windows 8 had a really good cheap deal when it first came out and obviously windows 10 was free. I do feel old unsupported OS's are a bit of a risk but while I like windows 10 the privacy issues do also worry me. I did mention in a post a while ago if it was ever something eset would do in the future - privacy controls, but the issue is their could be legal issues. I mentioned it because the people behind Spybot Search and Destroy have a program called Spybot Anti-Beacon. From what I've read the free version blocks windows telemetry but the pro version can also block telemetry for other programs to. Unsure how this works legal wise. There is also the issue that you could block too many stuff and prevent issues, e.g. issues with functionality I think what Microsoft will do is keep windows 10 free, at least the base OS and then offer subscriptions around it. I suppose they are kind of doing it now with the likes of Office 360. Basically I see in the future MS offering office, music and TV streaming, maybe other software services - the idea being instead of paying different companies e.g. netflix, spotify etc. you could get it all through Windows
  15. Just a quick note. Opening a ticket is probably the best solution as it can be tracked better but if you ever need to post an attachment on the forums and are worried about privacy, only the moderators can see those attachments on here. Hope they can get to the bottom of this for you
  16. Thanks for the info will look into it. Used to use firefox years ago but started having problems but think it was the PC I had at the time being too old. I've user chrome ever since and I do like how it syncs with android devices. However being Google theres always the concern of what they are collecting. I do have the new chromium based edge to but haven't really used it. I have also heard good things from Opera which even has a built in VPN
  17. Have you imported settings? I remember a user having an issue like this when he had imported settings. If I remember correctly the marketing setting doesn't get imported but will say it is disabled because it was disabled on the original machine. You need to enable it and then disable it and that should fix it
  18. I suppose the problem is you can block too much. I've had to unblock trackers to allow things to work. The test in the link didn't give me a good score so I wasn't sure if I was better using something else other than adblock plus and blur
  19. It might be because I'm using a beta version of eset and the problem is fixed. I'm also using 1909
  20. Yeah - no pop up message or anything like that just the eset message on the site itself asking if you want to continue or not
  21. Does this still happen. As noted I tried on mobile earlier, haven't tried again. However just on my desktop now - googled PCRISK and clicked the first link and got the Potentially unwanted content found alert in the browser
