  1. Hi Bruno,

I would see how you go with version 6.4.200.1, and if you’re still having issues, try running NordVPN with the Firewall in ECSP disabled. If it works, I would suggest looking into the Firewall configuration to whitelist the processes used (eg. openvpn, NordVPN.app, etc.).

  2. It's really interesting as the experience you've documented was exactly the issue I had with earlier ESET v6 builds and Yosemite & El Capitan, before using macOS Sierra which resolve this for me. Also, I recently had this occur again when using other third-party security or network apps, in particular RansomWhere (ECSP froze at boot and never loaded), BlockBlock (if you don't allow ESET processes) and VPN client software (openvpn conflicting with esets_proxy). So it'd be interesting to learn what's causing this to occur for you in this particular situation.

Either way, happy to see @Marcos helping out now, all the best @m4v3r1ck.

    Running fine at your side?

It was running very well, once of the best version 6 builds so far, tested with the latest version of macOS and minimal third-party apps, however.

Noticed a few minor bugs with the interactive firewall and profiles, but nothing that affects anything too much (as the "error 'no executable path found' causing apps to not load or block connections'" bug has been resolved).

Hi @planet! If you have time, could you please review my post and findings caused by the new in-app update?

    Cheers

    Hi @m4v3r1ck,

Really unfortunate to read your bad experience with 6.4.128.0.
With number 1 to 4, I have had this experience occur to me in the past with Yosemite/El Capitan & earlier ESET v6 builds, related to the firewall part.

Based on what you provided, there are a few ideas in mind as to why the firewall part is causing these issues, and it may boil down to an upgrade instead of uninstalling the older version and reinstalling the new version from scratch, and issues with existing settings/configuration or other issues.

    1. First thing I would do is uninstall Cyber Security Pro (if you have trouble due to the freezing, force-shutdown your mac and go into Safe Mode by holding down shift right after the start up sound, and uninstall from there).
    2. Restart, and download and install Cyber Security Pro's latest version. Restart as soon as the update is complete.
    3. Create new rules and configure setting from scratch, do not import.
    4. Restart once more to see if freezing occurs.

If issues persist, uninstall again. I would then try using Cyber Security to see if not using the firewall part resolves the issue (It did for me in the past). If it does, it may be an issue between the firewall and using OS X Yosemite. In that case I would keep using Cyber Security and contact your local ESET Support so they can figure out what's going on.

Is this the same CSP issue that we encountered a while back? We then got notified by ESET to make changes for the cloud using below exclusions.

ESET mentioned to exclude those with Yosemite when Yosemite was released those few years back, and since you are still using Yosemite I would continue to include those exclusions until you update your mac to a more up to date version.

Regarding "the ability to activate a new license and have your days remaining merge into the new licens," technically this licensing functionality doesn't exist in the Home licensing model (afaik), and any merging only applies to renewals (per q18 in the FAQ):

ESET appears to be working yet anytime I do any type of scan it shows that zero files were scanned.

Version 6.4.128.0 was released recently which includes a fix for 'an issue that would cause “Zero Files Scanned on Hard Drive” errors during a computer scan'. If you haven't already, I would suggest updating ECSP to see if the issue is resolved for you both.

  8. I wanted to let ESET Security Forum users know about this new version released by ESET, as it provides a great amount of fixes and a few new features that might interest other macOS users.

    In particular, you can now:

    • Allow all software that is signed by Apple to access the network automatically in the Firewall; and
    • Hide the menu bar icon, so you can set your preference between using the Dock icon, menu bar icon, or no icons at all.

They have also fixed the 'no executable path found' and 'cannot write to socket' errors.
Thank you to the developers for fixing a large number of major and minor issues. :D

    Changelog

    • Added: Keep alive feature to ensure the ESET service does not stop
    • Added: GUI notification when the ESET service is not running
    • Added: Ability to hide the ESET icon in menu bar extras

You can download Version 6.4.128.0 of ESET Cyber Security Pro on the ESET website.

Apologies to the ESET team if this is against the rules, I know @foneil usually does this, however this update is quite important for resolving a large number of issues that would benefit being announced on the forum (and you have already listed the changelog and version on the ESET website and KB article).

It would be nice to have the ability of getting notified when you receive kudos; such as making the option adjustable in "Notification Options" on the User CP.

I've noticed for a while that moderators and admins can edit their post and provide a reason for editing. When I edit one of my posts, I cannot see anywhere for me to be able to provide a reason for editing, which might be useful at times.

Is it possible for regular users to provide a reason for editing a post and if so, how?

I'm happy to see that with the new Forum recently, these two things are now possible -- notifications for receiving kudos, as well as being able to provide a reason for editing posts. Thank you! :D

My problem started after updating to the latest version AND I changed nothing in the Live Grid settings and/or (firewall) ports!

I'm a little bit late to reply, but Running Processes is currently working now for me so hopefully they are working again for you TomSwitz and m4v3r1ck (tested with version 6.4.128.0 and macOS 10.12.4 Beta).

What occurred at the time may be similar to my earlier experience mentioned in this topic; a recent module/program update or server issue that temporarily interrupted seeing the information.

  12. Just adding that there might be a case where there is new license information for a renewal. It just happened to me a moment ago after having an older 3 year ESET Family Pack which is no longer offered, therefore automatically switching me to the new ESET Multi-Device. I could no longer use my previous license info and to continue I was required to enter the new license info. Not sure why, might depend on the vendor?

My Outlook indicates that a MAPI-HTTPS Protocol with SSL encryption is enabled. If this protocol is not supported by Cyber Security for Mac when retrieving mail, would the program then recognize viruses, if they are already in the mailbox?

    Greetings from Germany

    Hi mysteria,

You are correct, although Email Protection isn't applicable for SSL/IMAPS/POP3S, real-time protection should continue to monitor your sent and received emails and attachments within your email clients (Mail.app and Outlook 2016).

  14. Hi Tese,

Although you cannot add a delay, the program will eventually update after an hour of use. If you think that is too long to wait or you don't use your device for that long, as a workaround you could edit the default task of hourly updates to a shorter amount of time. On decent Macs and Internet Connections with recent versions, update checking only takes 1 to 2 seconds if you are already up to date.

I have also been having this problem off and on since I downloaded the latest version of ESET last year.

ESET recently released version 6.4.128.0 -- if you haven't yet I would suggest trying this version and seeing how it goes.

    Cyber Security: Download
    Cyber Security Pro: Download

Also noting that this recent version supports versions of Mac OS from 10.6.

I ordered two ESET Cyber security licenses for my 13" mac book pro, and my new IMAC (both 10.11.6). As soon as they were installed, I started to have issues on both of them where they wouldn't shut down correctly, and my browser would freeze.

    Hi mstoetz1,

Sorry to hear about your issues with ESET Cyber Security.

If it is not too late, ESET has recently released version 6.4.128.0 (link to download) which may resolve the freezes for you with Cyber Security installed. Let us know how you go.
