I can not uninstall ECSP because it is running - dragging it to the trash results in an error message "Cannot remove this item because it is currently open" (or something alike).

    Hi Artur,

You should be uninstalling ECSP using the provided Uninstaller which is included inside the downloaded .dmg, or by following the instructions in this KB article.

  2. Hi Artur,

I would consider uninstalling ECSP first, restarting macOS, downloading the latest version from the ESET website (currently 6.3.70.1), installing it, activate, let it complete the first initial update, and then restarting macOS to see if the issue has resolved.

If not, there may be something else installed on macOS that is conflicting with ECSP.

Is it possible to remove the Finder icon without stopping the program?

I do not understand why this icon is there and active since it is also in the top bar like most programs ..

    Hi,

Yes, it is possible -- I also don't know why they've begun to show the app in the dock by default either.

Either way, just click the ESET icon on the top bar, click Preferences > then User Interface > Uncheck 'Show Application in the Dock' (or something similar) > Restart macOS.

  4. As Marcos said, any secure connections used are not supported at the moment - so emails using SSL and secure ports will not work, even when manually adding the settings yourself. Reset the Email Protection settings back to Default for now.

There may be support for SSL connections in the future, but for now there is some amount of protection with Real-Time Protection for opening/saving/copying attachments, and Web Protection & Anti-Phising for Malicious and Phishing links inside emails when clicked and visited in your browser (With modern browsers also using built-in protection, useful for https).

  5. ESET recently changed the default settings to enable the ESET Icon in the Dock for some reason. Previously, this feedback was passed to the responsible team back in October 2015 starting with the Endpoint versions, but this particular setting has also been enabled and remained on the Home versions too.

You can turn in off by going into the ESET Menu Bar Icon >  Preferences... > User Interface > and uncheck 'Present Application in Dock' or something similar to that. Restart OS X for changes to take effect.

  6. The version difference with 6.2.6.0 and 6.2.6.1 is only language/region related (see this topic), so 6.2.6.0 is still the latest in this case.

Strange that this issue is happening with Cyber Security and not Cyber Security Pro (which includes the firewall). Do you have any other network related third-party tools/apps installed on your Mac (Little Snitch, GlimmerBlocker, etc.)? Does the issue occur on HTTPS sites as well or just over HTTP? Can you describe your issue in more detail?

  7. Unfortunately mailboxes are not scanned in CS and CSP in real-time protection. [...] So if your email client uses mailboxes instead of separate files for each individual email and you are using IMAPS or POPS, your email is still not scanned!

Just checked with Mail.app and noticed real-time protection scans any email received/sent and any that I click on, even though they are in mailboxes. What email client are you referring to?

  8. Malicious attachments once saved/run should allow ESET to scan them upon Real-Time Protection, and any phishing/malicious links once open should be scanned via Web Protection. So although the email itself may not be scanned, other components should continue to protect you if the user mistakenly interacts with it.

There may be no other solution or workaround unless ESET implements SSL support which would not only provide IMAPS/POP3S scanning, but support for HTTPS in Web Protection/Parental Control/etc. which is also highly desired. If this is still something you definitely require for whatever reason, it may be necessary to use a different security solution that provides this feature, like Avast.

  9. Hello,

Installed Smart Security recently, and I'm not being prompted to redirect or open the protected window in Chrome and the websites are just loading normally without any indication from ESET.

I can open Banking & Payment Protection manually fine using Chrome with no issue. I have also manually entered websites and it still does not want to do anything.

    Using:

    • Smart Security 9.0.386.0 [up to date]
    • Chrome 52.0.2743.82 m (64-bit) [Most recent stable]
    • Banking & payment protection module: 1073 (20160624), websites [Most recent stable]
  10. I believe the 6.2.6.x release was around July 7, with the following change log:

    • Fixed: Version check displayed correctly if changelog contains non-ASCII characters
    • Fixed: Kernel panic in Uninstall during high load
    • Fixed: "Shut down computer after scan" functionality causes shut down at every system startup
    • Fixed: GUI crash caused by enabling removable media blocking
    • Fixed: Media Control shows blank entry in scan targets when connecting disk with hidden partitions
    • Fixed: Problem with random crashes of esets_deamon process
    • Fixed: esets_proxy deadlock causing the HTTP freeze
    • Fixed: Problems loading websites when Web Access Protection is turned on
    • Fixed: License expiration date not visible when using custom date format defined in OSX
    • Fixed: Minor changes in the product’s GUI descriptions and tooltips
    • Added: Hide/show notifications from the Protection Status screen (E.g. License expiration, Web access/Email protection or Computer restart required)
    • Added: Increased compatibility with OS X during scanning network volumes by real-time scanner
  11. In that case, it is recommended to exclude your Time Machine backups from scanning which you can follow the steps outline here: hxxp://support.eset.com/kb3263/?locale=en_US

I have quoted an older post from another topic below with a link to explain Time Machine & ESET (or any other antivirus software):

Please stop the scan and create an exclusion for your Time Machine as ESET does not need to scan your Time Machine device, following the instructions here: hxxp://support.eset.com/kb3263/?locale=en_US

If you like, you can then start another scan in-depth which should be much faster as it should avoid your Time Machine device.

Hopefully Cyber Security (and Pro) will automatically exclude Time Machine devices by default in future releases. I went into detail in an older topic about Time Machine and ESET which you can view here: https://forum.eset.com/topic/4060-still-scanning-after-24-hours

In summary, Time Machine is a pretty complex system and scanners aren't able to recognise that. Thankfully most other security vendors have now excluded Time Machine backups by default, hopefully ESET will do the same or provide a simple option in the Preferences to automatically set exclusions.

  12. I am going back to the OP here because I think that the latest BPP module update resolves this issue (the green border showing in Windows 10 after restart).

RELEASE: Banking & payment protection module 1065

    Changelog:

-Do not redirect url to Secured Browser if referer was not redirected

-Fixed issue with "Protected Browser Green Frame" after Fast Startup on Windows 10

It seem that regular updates still have the module on 1063... will 1065 come to the regular update channel soon or do I need to switch to pre-release (ideally not as the machines need to be stable)?
