  1. I will wait a few weeks before I see what this release has broken/re-introduced, as we had the eset_proxy issue fixed/re-broke a few times on the prior release

That is understandable, I have already noticed an 'annoyance' with the Interactive Firewall (now, the window doesn't stay in front when asked to allow or deny, and doesn't show when viewing all windows, so it's easily missable and can cause issues to the user - before, this window was always in front).

I'll be sure to update the 'Issues, Ideas & Feedback for ESET Cyber Security (and Pro)' topic regularly.

One thing for certain though is that the shutdown issue is definitely resolved.

  2. I've permenantly uninstalled ESCP because of the bugs, and lack of any real support from ESET

This latest fun with them not releasing an El Capitan compatible version even 1 day before the official availability of El Capitan just reminds me of why I need to find another supplier for Antivirus/Internet Security

:(  Weety, I would give ESET at least one more chance with this new release when it does come out since this is quite a major one (I hope).

  3. Following stackz link, here's what's included:

    ESET NOD32 TITAN includes:

    • Basic product ESET NOD32 Smart Security (3 PC license for 1 year)
    • ESET NOD32 Mobile Security (1 device license for 1 year)
    • Paragon Home Expert ESET Edition (license for 1 PC)
    • KeePass (software distributed under an open license GNU GPL)

The kit includes ESET NOD32 TITAN 4 GB USB Flash Drive with software distribution

Seems like there are various naming methods for different locations around the world (eg. Japan uses 'Personal Security' and 'Family Security'). In the end we still receive the same products, just different bundles/offers/etc.  :)

  4. Hi,

The release is planned to correlate to the El Capitan release so that the users experience no incompatibility issues.

Great to hear that... however there is now only a few hours left until release (about 10am PDT) and other users would ideally need to upgrade ESET Cyber Security Pro first before upgrading to El Capitan (unless you want to do a clean install), so as Weety mentioned:

It would be better to release it in advance so people can update to a compatible version before El Capitan is released

I've personally uninstalled ECSP and will install the new version after El Capitan when it is ready (hopefully addressing this SIP feature), but for users who are unaware about this, auto-update OS X (the App Store will download automatically and prompt them to install if turned on) or forget about having ECS/ECSP installed and upgrade anyway it would have been ideal to release an update at least the day before (or even better a few days before) both manually on the website and notified within the program too. That way there wouldn't be incompatibility issues.

  5. ESET Cyber Security and ESET Cyber Security Pro do not yet support OS X El Capitan. The next product release for both will fully support this o/s. No date on this release has been announced. When it has, we will announce it here on the Forum.

El Capitan is about to be released worldwide in about 24-48 hours (GM released to developers 9th September). I noticed that there's still no ESET announcement for a compatible version, or if it will address any potential fixes users are really wanting and have been waiting for all year now.

What's going to happen? What about the users who are auto-updated, unaware of the incompatibility (or the users wanting to reinstall Cyber Security)? :(

  6. Yes, this was happening to me also - I noticed that Safari would show that the file was cut off at some point (so you can see the code of a file and notice it without half of the beginning so Safari cannot currently show the page), or images will simply not display (most likely due to the same thing). Might explain why Safari tried to download the PHP file instead as it couldn't recognise what it was due to code missing.

For me though the sites were random, sites wouldn't load after a while of usage and as you said turning off Web Protection can make files load again. Alternatively, if you restart the Mac - the same sites that had trouble would work perfectly again... until some time later again for a new set of random websites.

Here's a screenshot of one example of what happens in Safari (Noticed this appearing often when the issue occurs for text based files)

  7. Hi Jurre,

I suggest you try the ESET Uninstaller tool instead of the general AV Removal tool.

If I have to use an uninstaller I would use hxxp://support.eset.com/kb2289/#Windows10
But I would like to have confirmation that it will actually work and that there is no other way.
Since this is a beta product and it is about Windows 10.
Besides that I submitted a support request to Customer Care. No answer yet.

When you asked about the uninstaller tool, you did find the right one - please follow the KB Instructions on how to uninstall ESS from Windows 10 (with the right tool and specified instructions for Windows 10): hxxp://support.eset.com/kb2289/#Windows10

  8. This is understandable due to the new System Integrity Protection, pretty much all security products (or any app/product that needs access to system folders/files) are currently not functional without forcing the user to turn this off at the moment (Edit: Sophos has just released an El Capitan compatible stable version to home users that resolved this).

With the release date, I really hope ESET tries to release support for El Capitan just before or very shortly after its release (most likely next month Edit: 30th September). I am aware that some times it is out of your control if Apple makes last minute changes, however.

  9. Hello Planet,

can you please check if the esets_proxy component crashed after you notice tat you are not protected?

    Please let us know.

    P.R.

    Hello,

It can happen either when esets_proxy crashes, or either when esets_proxy 'freezes' or hangs (it doesn't crash but esets_proxy refuses to work until you force quit it yourself).

  10. i am testing the free version of eset for mac

    problems are

    1. can't add app to dock in normal way

    2. if you go to launch pad and launch eset it does not go to dock

    3. once you use it first time it won't relaunch you have to reboot mac each time

    4. there is now way to see if it scans at startup

    thanks

    Hello,

    1. You can add the app to the dock by clicking on the ESET icon on the top right of OS X, clicking Preferences... > Interface > and check 'Present application in Dock'. After restarting your Mac you should see it in the dock.
    2. Launching the app in Launchpad or via Applications will not do anything as it is already present in the top right of OS X (menubar), and also in the dock when you enable the option as previously mentioned. (I've previously mentioned this in a different topic, you can view it by clicking here.)
    3. I'm not sure what you mean with this one - you can also see the window by clicking on the ESET icon on the top right of OS X and clicking 'Open ESET Cyber Security'.
    4. A startup scan is performed after updating or after starting up OS X. The ESET icon on the top right of OS X will change from the regular 'e' to a green spinning circle. If you are seeing the circle it means it is either performing an update or doing the startup scan.
  11. With tracking cookies, they are like flies that don't go away - they're aren't harmful but they are quite annoying. These days they are adopting new ways of tracking in browsers (javascript, databases/storage, flash, etc.), but if this stuff matters to you (personal/targeted advertising, recording browsing habits, etc.), then I highly recommend for each browser you use to to visit hxxp://www.aboutads.info/choices/ (with all ad blockers, extensions, etc. turned off and all cookies accepted temporarily) and opt out of all companies (then turn back on extensions and cookie settings, and possibly install their 'Protect My Choices' extension so you don't need to do this all over again if your opt-out cookies are accidentally deleted). It's not a 100% fool-proof solution, but the list is growing and is still a step forward.

Alternatively (or additionally), you can use CCleaner as TomFace mentioned (or a browser extension) to whitelist the cookies from websites you need and just delete the rest occasionally (or automatically if possible).

  12. This happened to me once again on another fresh install of both Windows 10 and ESS - I previously mentioned these steps for a workaround (and the workaround worked once again):

I faced both the exact same issues and did this as a workaround - after installation of Smart Security:

    • Go into the properties for the Network Adapter you use for the Internet, uncheck ESET's one and apply settings. This will allow the computer to connect to the Network/Internet again for now.
    • Activate the product and let Smart Security fully update.
    • Go back to the Network Adapter properties and turn back on ESET's one.
    • Restart (not shut down) Windows 10.
    • Select one option (Home or Public) for the network when ESET's popup appears.
This should resolve both the firewall service and Internet issue.

Seems that the ESET entry in the Network Adapter properties after installation is the cause for the Network/Internet not working, and either an update or a restart resolves it somehow. Not sure if that is also linked to the firewall service but that is also resolved once restarted and/or updated.

However I also noticed ESET's popup to select whether the network is for Home or Public doesn't appear after installation and only after restarting in Windows 10 - once you select one then the connection is working again... is that why disabling the Epfw Lightweight filter temporarily works Marcos? This may be why it hasn't occurred when upgrading to Windows 10 (only clean install) as the zone/settings are already configured?

  13. Will we be able to successfully install and use ECS and ECSP with OS X El Capitan's "System Integrity Protection" turned on by default?

    Now supporting El Capitan.

Download the latest version from the ESET website (hxxp://www.eset.com/)

  14. Works fine here, I have it set to 1 second and shutdowns are now instant.

You do have to have gone through one reboot cycle for the new value to be picked up unless you unload/load the daemon.

I've edited the plist file again and see how it goes for a couple of restarts. I do know that Endpoint Security has the shutdown issue fixed and still have the default 65 seconds on their plist file, so hopefully we don't need to edit the file when this is actually fixed for Cyber Security. What version of Cyber Security and OS X do you have?

  15. I was given a link to the Beta. But since the key I was given as well was invalid, it's been of no help to me. That was the other odd thing. I have CSP, but they gave me this Endpoint Security beta. Not sure if CSP is going away, but either way, I'm back to square 1. ESET's customer service to this end has been nothing short of miserable.

There were issues with activation for the first few days but you should be able to activate it now with that key as it's been resolved. Unfortunately the beta key for EES seems to only last for a few weeks (got 11 days left), but I wanted to mention it for others to see the potential os ECSP since 6.0.14.0's release last year.

ECSP isn't going away, they are apparently just planning to release the next major build just before OS X El Capitan's release (most likely October). I'm assuming that if it hasn't been released yet, it is because they are still working on it. However, I am concerned after 6.0.14.3's release as previously said since it actually brought all previous issues back that 6.0.14.0 fixed and cannot be used on a Mac that I need to rely on (due to the freezes, protection not working, impact on browsing and more).

There is currently not a stable and reliable build of Cyber Security available for us.

  16. I know I mentioned this in the past, but when Endpoint Security for OS X was released earlier in the year, it contained all of the fixes that Cyber Security needed (including this shutdown issue, random freezes, Safari freezes, Web Protection and Anti-Phishing plus Parental Control randomly no longer protecting, and more). There is currently a new beta build for Endpoint Security for OS X that seems to continue to resolve issues - it is much more stable and doesn't affect performance or functionality in any way unlike Cyber Security at the moment.

For those who are okay with using a beta product and want to try it out for a little bit to see how it differs from Cyber Security, you can sign up for an account at Centercode (https://eset.centercode.com/), uninstall Cyber Security for now and install this beta for a week or two to see the improvements for yourself.

If the upcoming Cyber Security build mentioned earlier is going to be similar to Endpoint Security for OS X, then it is going to be an absolutely huge improvement and will finally put to rest the several issues we've had for a while now.

  17. There are known issues caused by Windows 10 itself during upgrade which were supposed to be fixed in RTM but for some reason users are still having issues with epfwlwf even with RTM build. Manual installation of the driver or reinstallation of the latest version of ESS should help for now.

I didn't have this issue during upgrade - the upgrade with ESS was perfect. It's actually when I did a fresh install and then installed ESS for the first time on Windows 10 that I had an issue with epfwlwf and needed to do the above steps (with the latest build).

I made sure i never had any security suite installed when doing my upgrade to win 10, as i knew that issues existed with every version of ESS. Having tested win10 previews and ess v9 beta and v8.

Done my upgrade then got 8.0.319.0 when it was released and never encountered any further issues.

It seems to be random for different users, as I encountered this problem only after a fresh install of Win 10 RTM, but upgrading on another PC from Win 8.1 with ESS installed had no issues at all.
