Which settings in ESET Smart Security 9 are for preventing ransomware

LiveGrid lookups should block download of suspicious objects.

Advanced heuristics would block its execution

Botnet protection would disrupt connection to malicious C&C

There's also a network scanner in ESET Smart Security and ESET Endpoint Security v6+ which can block malicious communication at the network level to increase protection even more. Also there is a mechanism in v7+ and Endpoint v6+ which is aimed at better detection and termination of malware encrypting files.

I came across an interesting posting over at bleepingcomputer.com who is running point on the fight against ransomware malware. Note that only two mainstream AV/anti-malware products were recommended for ransomware protection and Eset was one of them:
