  1. As Marcos has mentioned newer versions contain fixes to bugs, improvements to things such as scanning and protection and also newer features. For example often in the past I'd see people complaining about getting hit with ransowmare and questioning why Eset didn't stop it but it turned out they they where using a very old version which didn't have the ransomware. By being on the latest version you get all the newer features. Also eset is licensed by product and not version so as long as your license is still in date all newer versions of the product will work
  2. Problem is if Eset GUI and drivers loaded at the same time they would have to wait for windows GUI first. By loading eset services and stuff before the Windows GUI has loaded, eset is protecting you from the start. If it waited for the Eset GUI it would potentially put the user at risk. I presume some stuff will have more priority. Not sure if it could be quickened though or if that would cause delays
  3. Can you see what was scanned and missed in the logs? If so maybe try and scan them manually to see if the same behaviour occurs
  4. This is why I think having somewhere with the module version numbers could be handy - as sometimes people think theirs are out of date and not updating properly because someone's is higher as they are using pre-release updates
  5. To avoid things like this coming up again and again would it be possible to have a webpage which would show all the current modules for normal and pre release @Marcos This would also allow people to know if they had an issue
  6. I should add that not all bits in the database are updated all the time i.e. if everything is working and no issues/changes, things may not be updated for a while. For example the anti stealth module is from October 2021
  7. If your getting popups the firewall sounds like it's in manual mode. You could change to automatic
  8. Eset focuses more on security than general privacy. There are programs designed to block stuff such as telemetry. Spybot for example has Antiabecon which can block telemetry forapps, browsers and windows updates. I did ask if Eset would ever consider something similar but I think they where concerned about the legality I.e. if they claim Microsoft is stealing data and block it could Microsoft deny and sue. There's then the risk that blocking some stuff could cause issues I.e. stuff stops working
  9. I think browser wise it always depends on user preference. Each browser tends to have its own security features. Each also suffers from rouge extensions sometimes bypassing their security vetting. I use Chrome as I have an android phone so I have my browser history synced which is handy. However I know a lot of People avoid it for privacy issues as Google often has a lot of privacy concerns.
  10. Yeah this. By saying as you say, not a virus, it would probably cause more confusion I.e. is it a virus, what is it etc. Basically it was a file that only had malicious purposes. You said rightly anything can be abused and used maliciously but this file had no other purpose and so it makes sense to flag it as malware. Most users will also not research. If they see something is a virus they will make sure its gone and leave it at that
  11. Nope. If you do get a new computer just uninstall it on the current. If you no longer have access you can free licenses up at https://my.eset.com
  12. Also what browser and what browser version are you using
  13. I know occasionally you might get false positives but actual definition updates rarely contain bugs if I'm correctn and are updated a few times daily. Automatic updates means you'll always be protected from the latest threats
  14. I'm confused. That yellow alert states that you cancelled an update. What issue do you have? Might be lost in translation
  15. Eset internet security may detect the files later but in theory it may be too late i.e the malware may have already infected the computer and done damage. Basically as mentioned it depends on what you want and can afford. Nod32 is basically just an antivirus and internet security adds a firewall and network protection. As well as FileGuard premium also comes with a password manager and disk encryption. So it depends if you would use any of these
  16. Normally if Eset stops working the icon in the task bar should change colour to indicate something is wrong. You can also activate automatic renewal as an option
  17. It's normally rolled out gradually. I belive this is to avoid bugs i.e a bug is found and the rollout is stopped, which is better than everyone updating and getting the bug. I suppose it could also avoid the update sever being overwhelmed. When you say manually I presume you mean via the built in updater. If you don't want to wait for the rollout usually the download on the site is the newer version so just download and install it over the top
  18. Eset has an in depth scan. The link bellow explains how to do this https://support.eset.com/en/kb2909-advanced-scanning-options-in-eset-windows-home-products
  19. As Marcos has mentioned the home version of eset Linux has been discontinued. I belive this was relayed to the costs of running vs the amount of users. Business products are available e.g. endpoint, but you can't buy a single license has to be about 5
  20. Have you tried using the Eset uninstaller tool in safe mode then reinstalling. This makes sure all eset files get removed https://support.eset.com/en/kb2289-uninstall-eset-manually-using-the-eset-uninstaller-tool If this is the computer that the lower tier product was on just wondering if something has been left behind. The uninstall tool may fix that if it's the case
  21. Could be because it's new but I'd expect it to work straight away. Where did you purchase from? If it's the official Eset site it should be fine but if its from somewhere like Amazon it could be a scam i.e a license that's been bought for 1 device but sold on illegally to multiple users.
  22. You'd think resellers and what not would be happy to perform an upgrade because it's basically a sale at the end of the day and Eset will make more money if the user is on a higher product
  23. Not sure if it's the same but I've seen people having trouble in the past and it was apparently related to compatability issues. Have you used Eset for years. From what I can remember an issue recently causing program updates to fail occurred if they had upgraded multiple times and once had a really old version e.g. they upgraded from version 10 to 11, 11 to 12 and so on. Something appeared to remain From an old version causing issues. From what I remember the solution was to backup any custom changes, remove eset via the uninstaller (link bellow) and then reinstall the newer version. The issue then shouldn't exist again with future upgrades. https://support.eset.com/en/kb2289-uninstall-eset-manually-using-the-eset-uninstaller-tool
