  1. It all boils down to this IMO as all AVs these days provide good protection: AV-Comparatives: Performance Test - October 2016 hxxp://chart.av-comparatives.org/chart1.php?chart=chart4&year=2016&month=10&sort=1 https://www.av-comparatives.org/performance-tests/
  2. same, did a clean install by removing v9 first, then running the ESET uninstall tool in safe mode, then installed v10. 0 problems. this is the best NOD32
  3. How to Disable Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool Create a text file via notepad then copy/paste the following text: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\MRT] "DontOfferThroughWUAU"=dword:00000001[/code] Now save the file but with a *.reg extension (give it any meaningful name you want) Alternatively, you can just download the REG File here: Download Disable Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool Finally, simply double click on the REG file to merge it with the registry. You will not be offered to download/install the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool anymore. If you later on change your mind, simply delete that reg entry from this location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\MRT ======================================================================================================= Not only is the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool useless as there are much better ways to remove viruses/spyware/trojans with tools like AdwCleaner , but I just read this and it's not very pleasing: Disable Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool Heartbeat Telemetry
  4. They are all in the same level though wihch is 2 stars. Don't forget that ESET has a lot of other components that prevent infection in the first place such as PUP detections and HTTP scanning that blocks any malicious connections so the chances of being infected are much better than the competition. In all the 12+ years I've been using NOD32, I never got infected and got 0 false positives. I understand. I've been an Eset user for over 10 years and just yesterday I renew my family's license to 2 more years. No complains on our side. I just got surprised (pleased tbh) that Microsoft is finally upping its game. If Windows gets safer as a whole, we all benefit from it (less chance of propagation). And I'm a Windows guy. Windows Defender has been greatly improved since the old days, you can now enable PUP detection in it too: Enable PUP (Potentially Unwanted Programs) Detection in Windows Defender While Windows Defender file detection rates have gone up from 0 out of 6 in AV-Test to a respectable 4.5/6, you can further enhance its security by enabling PUP detection. While this feature is currently available to Windows 10 Enterprise users out of the box, you can still enable it on your Windows 10 Home or Pro installation and it works just fine. If you prefer not to do this manually through regedit, then I have created a regfile that enables PUP Detection in Windows Defender. Simply double click on the file to import it into the Windows registry then reboot your computer. Enable Windows Defender PUP Detection Example of a PUP detection caught while trying to install Shark 007 Codecs. While Windows Defender doesn't go all the way of actually blocking the installer of the PUPs like NOD32 does, at least it detected the PUP so one would take extra care not to blindly hit the NEXT button and install everything but rather, carefully read what you are installing, after that I simply canceled out the bundled search garbage that it was trying to install and proceeded with the installation normally albeit without the PUPs: I don't use it because it's much heavier than NOD32 on my system, I can immediately feel the difference even with something as simple as opening a folder that contains a lot of images or folders with custom icons. Second long time issue is if I am using my VPN and it tries to update, the update would fail for some odd reason and then WD would be disabled until I restart.

  6. Oh, I wish I could read German. I can't read or speak a word of German. I just know the location of that settings import button so I imported my settings and that's all I need. I don't need to look at the GUI. Set it and forget it You can export your current settings to a file, then memorize where is the location of the import/export button then import them into the German version. Only if you really wanna get the final version of v10 now. If you can wait then great.
  7. I just installed NOD32 Antivirus v10.0.359.1 by downloading it from the German localized site and then just imported by settings from the NOD32 that I had before and everything works, all exceptions were imported just fine as well.
  8. You mean the startup splash screen. Make sure you have it enabled by opening the main window of NOD32, then go to Setup, then click on the Advanced Setup wrench tool in the bottom right, then follow the below illustration:
  9. are you installing it from an Administrator account? Is there any current AV installed? If there was a previous AV installed, did you ensure to use its own removal tool to fully get rid of all its file/registry remnants?
  10. I just tried running the latest live installer and it still installed NOD32 v9.0.386
  11. You can install it over the top although I recommend using the ESET Uninstaller to get rid of the old version and all its remnants and install the new version from a clean slate
  12. ESET doesn't use such systems and actually is the most flexible when it comes to reinstallation/reactivation. The way it works is it detects the IP, Computer Name/config of the computer trying to perform updates. If that number is within your license count, then you're fine. If it detects that more than X amount of computers are being updated at the same time then they flag your license. Mods, please correct me if I'm wrong.
  13. In the past 10 years that I have been using NOD32, I never EVER got a virus and it even blocks bad URLs better than a firewall Take these tests just as a reference point and ESET still did great. What's more concerning to me is when an AV gets 100% yet has a lot of false positives and/or interferes with my system and makes stuff not work properly.
  14. I found that uBlock doesn't suit my needs because it doesn't allow me to add the Facebook Annoyances Blockers and the "I do not care about cookies" filter list even when I add it to my custom filters list, it doesn't actually work so I continue to use my trusted AdBlock Plus but when installing it, make sure you uncheck the box in the filters that says "Allow some non-intrusive ads" Here are the filters that I use:
  15. They usually take time to respond as they deal with the tickets in the order received. I hope that the email which you initially purchased your license with is still the same email you are using now as it would be easier to track that way.
  16. This. Also, I just installed ESET NOD32 Antivirus v10.0.171.0 (x64) on the latest Windows 10 Red Stone update and at first, I got a similar message. After the initial update and a reboot, HIPS was working again
  17. the only problem is it keeps disconnecting my VPN.AC randomly. Once I uninstall NOD32, everything is fine I submitted a bug report 2 weeks ago but no reply
  18. good idea, is there a way to import these entries into the ESET Firewall easily as it is the case with the batch file?
  19. After adding these rules to my Firewall, I literally feel every page I browse to loads instantly, as if I upgraded my internet!
  20. Stop Windows 10 spying on you using just Windows Firewall Download the CMD Batch File After downloading the ZIP (Batch File), right click on add rules.cmd and choose Run As Administrator A reboot is recommended after adding these rules to your Firewall. Note: To backup your current firewall settings before running the above batch file just in case, do the following: Go to Start, Settings, Network & Internet. Windows Firewall, Advanced Settings. From the Action tab on the top navigation menu or the Action box on the right, choose Export Policy and name it and save it where you like. If this program does not work for you, simply follow these steps again, choose Import Policy and select the file you saved. See screenshot three below for what you should be looking at.
  21. Just released, ESET NOD32 Antivirus/EIS v10.0.171.0 Beta = https://www.eset.com/int/beta/edition2017/
  22. Says access denied when I try to do step 1: Proc.png disable hips restart try again and dont forget to enable hips after that I already stated that the problem is solved long ago and now we're already on a new build.
