  1. Yes it was ugly (for me). I am surprised you are/were unaware of it, as active as you are posting on this Forum. If I recall correctly it was right after Avast acquired Piriform (If I'm incorrect, please someone correct me). Here's a link to the thread (Sept 2017) at the Piriform Forum concerning the hack: https://forum.piriform.com/topic/48869-announcement-security-notification-for-ccleaner-v5336162-and-ccleaner-cloud-v1073191/ Regards, Tom
  2. Yeah it's about as scummy scammy as the scam Phone calls that most of us get. Fake IRS, insurance, loan collections, extended car warranties, medical equipment, fake Microsoft support, Medicare, lottery/sweepstakes winnings and the list goes on and on. When there is any doubt about an e-mail, don't even open it, just mark it as spam and/or delete it. While nosing around HTG (How-To Geek) this morning, I ran across this article which has some good tips. https://www.howtogeek.com/359129/don’t-fall-for-the-new-cryptoblackmail-scam-here’s-how-to-protect-yourself/ Be safe. Regards, Tom
  3. Here's a reminder https://www.howtogeek.com/326742/ccleaner-was-hacked-what-you-need-to-know/ Since then, I have not gone back to CCleaner...it was too much pain (for me) after the hack. Interesting enough, while searching HTG (How-To Geek), I ran across this article from Aug 2018. https://www.howtogeek.com/361112/heres-what-you-should-use-instead-of-ccleaner/ Regards, Tom
  4. Go to the help and support section of your ESET product and then search "Password". This will give you an explanation as shown below. It is a user defined setting. The purpose is to prevent unauthorized changes/access to your established settings. It is optional. I use it, just be aware you will be asked for your password to do "some" things (i.e.... stop a scheduled scan, anything in advanced setup...etc).
  5. What browser are you using? When using IE11 (Win 7), PayPal redirects me to ESET BPP window. It does not do so when using FireFox. But I have had issues using ESET BPP w/FireFox in the past. Regards, Tom
  6. A free lunch? Free beer tomorrow? (Tomorrow never comes...it's always today) https://www.welivesecurity.com/2017/08/03/whats-cost-free-lunch/
  7. Honestly, I think it's six of one and a half dozen of the other. In the past I have done a "clean install". This time I chose to do an overlay (and my OCD is OK with that). If an overlay is not an acceptable method, why would ESET offer it through the update screen in the GUI? Maybe a Moderator could interject some reasoning to do it one way or the other. I also know I can always start over if things are "not right" (and it won't be the end of the world). I may die due to several things, but "analysis paralysis" will not be one of them. Regards, Tom
  8. I highly doubt that anyone really cares about the country you show as your location. So show whatever you want to show. Showing the correct country only helps the Forum Moderators direct you to the correct source should you encounter an issue that requires technical support. Regards, Tom
  9. Aryeh, thank you for your input. It's always good to hear from you and your comments are appreciated. Best regards, Tom
  10. Some folks will never be satisfied. Just got the upgrade option through the gui update screen. Think I'll do an overlay (this time) and see how it goes. Regards, Tom
  11. Change for the sake of a visual change is to be very cautions of. That would be totally a waste of time for all. Fortunately, the majority of folks in the know understand the difference between glitz and substance. Regards, Tom
  12. If you are not sure about violating Forum rules, maybe you should read the rules, as all Forum members should. They exist for a reason. https://forum.eset.com/topic/76-rules-of-the-eset-security-forum/ Regards, Tom
  13. See Marcos' post regarding a changelog. https://forum.eset.com/topic/17260-v12/?do=findComment&comment=85318 Regards, Tom
  14. Every new releases like Christmas Eve for some folks. I too can wait till the official release.
  15. If/when v12 (or v11 whatever) is released, it would be posted here on the Forum. The timing is ESET's decision. I guess you "could" enable pre-releases should you wish to go down that route. Regards, Tom ************************** See Marcos's post in https://forum.eset.com/topic/17251-i-just-installed-version-12-on-three-computers/?tab=comments#comment-85298
  16. Welcome to the Forum Kirov_Airline. We are glad you are here. You can always find someone running a sale on ESET software (even direct from ESET), especially around Black Friday/Cyber Monday. I do not know what online vendors are available to you in France, but I am sure that are some. Let me know if you know of a great cheese vendor in France (like Androuet in Paris) who will sell me some fine French cheese at cost and ship it to me here in the States (for free). Best regards, Tom
  17. Excellent Marcos....I did submit an e-mail to samples@ESET this morning before I logged in here. Thanks again. Regards, Tom
  18. I was online using my VPN (ExpressVPN) logged out of it and then started getting blocked address messages from ESET (from various IPs). Am scanning now. Does anyone have any information on this issue? I am still getting the messages logging back into ExpressVPN as of now. First time I have had an issue with this. I'm disconnecting now till after the scan is done.
  19. I guess you could try...when I search the worldwide partners for Canada, it directs me back to San Diego. https://www.eset.com/int/business/partner/find/#c11847 Best regards, Tom

  21. Hello bigc73507 and welcome back...glad you are here. You'll find many Wilders folks about. Best regards, Tom
  22. Hello Marcos. I'm probably mistaken, but could folks ever click on the abbreviations to be connected to the subject? (see below) Maybe I'm just having a senior moment. Please accept my apology if I am incorrect. Perhaps that could be an enhancement to the Forum. To be honest with you, I did not even see the link in your signature. Best regards, Tom
