  1. They must have tested it on a very bad system. The hardware they test on is the same for all the products. In anycase, I should clarify that my point was that the results doesn't reflect what I feel on my rather old system when I use ESET. And since they use newer hardware than me the performance results in this particular test is anything but correct, as it shows that ESET has a big impact on the performance, when infact the impact is very tiny. It's not what I see either. I still use ESS on my 9 year old XP machine running at 1.8GHz and 1 gig of RAM. Now if it will run on that without impacting performance then I don't understand what they mean in the test. Maybe they forgot to uninstall the previous test AV before trying ESET. Haha that's funny because my system is also 9yrs old what a coincidence It has AMD Athlon2800+ but I only got 512MB of RAM, it would run smoother with 1gb or more of course. And the reason for not upgrading is simply for the reason that everything in it is 9yr old, hdd, graphics, processor etc etc. So it's not worth to spend money on. The on-board soundcard died 3 days ago, so now I am using an external one via the USB port wich works just as good actually.
  2. Before you attempted to re-install, did you first to an uninstall ? If not then do that. Also FYI. That "roll-back" function that Janus mention is not available in all version, so you probably use an older version were it hasn't been implemented yet. In any case do like this, Uninstall you current version, then install it from scratch so it will be a fresh installation. But you can also download a newer version if you like. Since it sounds like you use V5 wich doesn't have the roll-back function. So you could download V6 instead and put in your license during the installation process. HTH
  3. Hello. When you say "least impact on internet" then you mean your internet connection speed, and not while using your browser as i read it. In that case, it's hard to say, as it shouldn't really have an impact on your internet connection speed like that. If I remember correctly, I think two other members on here also had issues with League Of Legends while using ESET. Though I don't know in what thread they posted about it, or if they found a solution. Yes it is possible to exclude the game from real-time scanning if you like to see if it makes a difference. But creating a log from the moment the game suddenly quits may be something ESET will suggest, we'll see. So wait for an official reply from ESET to see what they think you should do.

  5. Is there an option to not deep-scan archives? I can't check this myself at the moment, but I think there is an option called "scan inside archives" or something like that in the setup tree.
  6. Speaking of tests....this test by AV-Test is showing that ESET is very bad when it comes to system performance, (second worst in the test to be exact). hxxp://www.av-test.org/en/tests/home-user/windows-7/julaug-2013/ Cheers.
  7. Thanks no problem, so does it protect the browser plug-ins too like Adobe Flash Player, or only the browser itself? You can read more about Malwarebytes Anti-exploit here and what parts it protects:hxxp://www.malwarebytes.org/products/antiexploit/#overview I don't use MBAE myself and don't plan to use it, that's why I am interested to know how the new Exploit Blocker handles things. Maybe this post is helpful too: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=2287334&postcount=115 Thank you
  8. +1 rollers, I fully agree. I won't comment on the MRG test. But regarding the AV-Comparatives test, how can you say that it doesn't do well on the test by AV-C? ESET is one of few vendors in the tests by AV-C that has a high consistency and stays on a stable level of 97-99%. People tend to take the test results too serious sometimes. Real-world usage wich is impossible to make tests on obviously is much more important. The tests are useful no doubt, but one shouldn't take them as serious as only because a vendor has a bad month (bad luck with the samples) doesn't mean that it's a bad product overall. As I said to another member, if TEST results are very important to you, then you can see that ESET is not the product for you. But, if you want a great product that has a fantastic balance between system performance and protection then ESET may be what you're looking for. My point is that I haven't stayed with ESET all these years based on the test results.
  9. Ah Great. Thanks for the update Chris
  10. No, I have never got any problems when I use PR updates.
  11. Yes of course I am concerned too but not really in the same way, and not to the extent that I am willing to disable stuff in the product. Then I would rather not use the product at all, and go more in the way of adding policy software like Sandboxie, Appguard, or something like that. But I don't think they are convenient to use and I don't acutally need them so I don't use them. By adding that sort of choices during install is only asking for trouble for ESET IMO. "Hey why doesn't the product update? Well we do have this advanced option during install where you can disable....maybe you ticked that" Then it's much better that the "advanced" users like you seek up info to be able to go through what you want to do. Since you are the first ever that I have seen since I started to use ESET around V 3.0 that have asked how you could do things like this in the product. No offence, but asking ESET to add such choices during install because of the things you want to do with the product is simply asking too much I think. If you don't trust the product and/or ESET then as I said don't use it. An Antivirus/Antimalware product is something you install and in most cases it's fine to go with the default settings. But disabling stuff due to privacy concerns is not the way to go in a product like this, as it only makes it harder for the product to do its job...protecting the user. And that's what this product does very well if one doesn't disable 75% of it. But you do what you feel is best for you of course, just be aware of what it does to the product functionality as well. Good luck
  12. Hi Marcos, I will quote myself from another thread since I am curious about how your new Exploit Blocker is different. I figure it must be different in some way since patents are involved. But if no details can be shared publicly then I fully understand that of course.
  13. No, I think it say that the softwares in that list can cause compatibility problems used alongside/together with ESET on XP. FYI I use ESET alone on XP SP3 and I have never had compatibility problems. So no it's not true. HTH
  14. Hey all It is very seldom I comment such responds. Actually the first time, and most likely the last. I write only to give my support to Swex's statement, and to give a kudos for his answer. We are also many users ,who have used some of our spare time to beta test and write correspondence with the moderators of this forum, and will therefore not see Eset realesed before it is ready, or as ready it can be. Regards Janus :-)) Thanks for understanding Janus. My point was is it is ok to ask one time "why can't I download V7 yet when they can in Germany". Then all one can do is redirect to official answers from ESET as myself and others have done.
  15. Well the product is not designed to be installed and then almost completely shutdown by the user, then what's the purpose in using the product in the first place? Even though I can somewhat understand why you do (try to) do it in this case, but still. I don't know but perhaps an "on-demand" AV without any realtime modules at all would suite your needs better. If you are very concerned about your privacy that is
  16. Hello and welcome. It may not matter as much to you as it would to the average users. But I remember a post a while back where ESET said that if one chose to disable the Web protection in the product you disable around 40% of the protection. If I read correctly did you also disable the automatic traditional VSD (virus signature database) updates too that pings the update servers every 60 minutes? ESET products starting in V6 get's real-time updates every 2-5 min, you may have disabled these too. But I'm not sure, since I don't know if they are connected to a module and/or setting in the product. ESET may guide you further.
  17. The demand part wasn't directed at you in particular. A way to find out if V7 works OK for you is to test out the V7 BETA. And by doing so, if it for some reason wouldn't work fine for you and you report any issues you may find to ESET, you then give ESET a chance to fix it before the final is released, or else you will first discover the problem after the final has been released already, and it would be too late for ESET to fix it before the release.
  18. you stop defending ESET in every thread someone asks about the release date! its their right as customers to ask so don't give us the same answers "be patient" "rolled out in waves soon" bla bla bla I am not defending anything or anyone. I just think this asking and asking takes us nowhere. And I am referring to official answer and schedule explanation given by ESET. So you think ESET is lying, and it's not going to be rolled out in waves as they say? Why would they lie about that? As I see it that is the truth coming straight from ESET. I think V6 works just fine under 8.1 if you enable pre-release updates afaik. ESET can tell you if that is the case. But you are of course free to continue asking over and over if you like I won't stop you, but the answers will be no different. Until ESET release more info and/or push the release button. Over and out!
  19. Is this thread for 5 year olds or what is going on here! Do both of you have some kind of problem with the version you have installed or why is it so hard to wait. I really don't get it. @alan Even if V7 is NOT out when you need to renew, you can still renew now but keep your current installation, and download V7 whenever it becomes available. Or change product if you have found something better I don't care, I just think both of you are being silly. Also, we're not less protected only because you can't get V7 when you demand it.
  20. That was my first guess too So the update task that check for updates automatically once an hour -> "Task will be run repeatedly every 60 minutes" no longer exists in the scheduler is that what you mean Chris?
  21. Hello Tweak Arena! FYI. We have an ongoing thread about this here: https://forum.eset.com/topic/1049-eset-v7-final-released-in-germany/ Also FYI. From the above thread. This is the best info we have got about the schedule so far: https://forum.eset.com/topic/1049-eset-v7-final-released-in-germany/?p=5550 So it would be good to post future posts in that thread so we can have all questions and answers in one thread IMO.
  22. If you look in the UI under "Update" the same place where can make an manual VSD update, below there, you can check for "product update" and if one is available it will be downloaded within the product. Should look like this..... Product Update Installed version: 7.0.104.0 Check for updates Regarding this, that is not a problem, as users can use wich version they want from V3 to V7. So if you or anyone else would have liked to stay with V5 that wouldn't be an issue. Though V7 provides better protection than V3 of course, so it is always recomended to use the lastest version. But if one don't want to use the latest then ESET won't force you.
