  1. earlier today I sent a support request from eset smart security itself (not the online web form). I just received a response to my mail that it wasn't delivered. I can give the copy of the email I got to a moderator or other eset employee, so you can look at it. one line says "Unauthenticated email from yahoo.com is not accepted due to domain's 550-5.7.1 DMARC policy". it also refers something about google and gmail.
  2. I suppose it could be that all winzip application are detected as malware, this has been for years now. winzip.xml
  3. the you should renew your license so you don't get annoyed by the message
  4. you can hold the SHIFT key while pressing the X on the program window. that will disable and exit Smart Security, for as long you want it and finish the defragmentation. but remember to go to the Start menu or double-click the program icon in order to start it again as soon as you finish your task.
  5. eset must start with windows, don't mess with 'msconfig'. one workaround I found is to go to advanced setup, then go to "computer" then HIPS and remove the checkmark from "Enable Hips" and "Enable self-defence". that way eset won't interfere with the restore process. that is until the system re is restored and the options will be enabled again. but the restore will successfully complete. (the company is aware and we wait for a fix)
  6. have they concluded what might be the issue behind the failing restore process?
  7. the lines in blue mean that the file can't be opened or it is being used by another application, usually by the OS. locked files are always scanned during start-up and shutdown of the pc. don't be afraid.
  8. try to remove all the other security programs, reboot the pc and try to install the ess trial again
  9. of course not, eset has nothing to do with the reason I formatted my pc. i restored the pc back and forth two times and this may have damaged some critical system files, even "startup repair" couldn't fix it. let's return to the topic. i'm pretty sure that HIPS (and maybe self-defence) are locking files and that causes the restore to fail at the beginning. that's why disabling HIPS allowed it to complete.
  10. I didn't try with self-defence disabled and hips enabled. I had to format the pc due to the restore process gone badly wrong. I won't play again with it.
  11. sorry I forgot to mention my findings. system restore is unable to complete with HIPS enabled. (the xml file is from when they were enabled) disabling hips allows the system to restore successfully.
  12. @peter randziak I will do it because since ESS 8 system restore fails to me also.
  13. I know i'm just reporting it as a problem I just removed the checkmark on the option to download the latest version, and installation continued as it should.
  14. my OS is 32bit and I downloaded the 32bit version of 8.0.304.1. upon installation it checks and downloads the latest version, when it finishes and start it, it says that my processor type is not supported. digging through the logs files in the temp directory I saw that it mistakenly downloads the 64bit. https://www.dropbox.com/s/q1vl7ftewolgnph/logs.zipx?dl=0
  15. the license is active the moment you buy it form the eset online store.
  16. i check the international site about v8 but it still offers v7. where can I download ESS 8?
  17. this wasn't a problem with earlier versions of SS. even disabling it didn't do anything.
  18. i report the same issue with the latest 7.0.317.4 I can't do a system restore because a file couldn't be read. clearly a bug in smart security
  19. I visited your website and I had more than 50 notification for malware. you said you never got any response from eset support. your website won't be marked as safe then.
  20. my router has a firewall option, I haven't touched it, since ess does the job. I haven't worked with the windows firewall since I let ess manage everything, I suppose the latter has some more advanced options. go for it, you do know they are the best products on the market
  21. if eset implements that option and you click "don't remind" after the expiration you could get infected and then you and everyone else will blame eset for not protecting your pc's. so, renew the license or remove it and install another free product.
