  1. I recently noticed an ESS notification that a new device was on the network. In my router I have IPv6 disabled. I looked at the newly seen device and it has: fe80::200:23ff:fe34:4566 ABB INDUSTRIAL SYSTEMS AB Unknown Device Last seen: 50 minutes ago Network:DnsIp:<myRouterIp>_DhcpIp:<myRouterIp> IP address: <blank> MAC address: 00-00-23-34-45-66 When this happened I reset my router and have not seen it again. Does anyone know what it could be?
  2. I went looking for downloads and found there is now ESS and ESS premium. I am not sure if I am allowed to use the premium with my license, so I just got ESS. I installed it and my version is now 10.1.204.0. And it seem to have corrected the problem. I did not uninstall first.
  3. Now Windows Update wants to install 2 updates for this: Microsoft Security Essentials - (KB2902907) Download size: 13.0 MB You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect. Update type: Optional You may not be running an anti-malware solution and this may leave your PC vulnerable to viruses, spyware and other malicious software. Microsoft Security Essentials is a free anti-malware software offered to Windows users who have purchased a Genuine copy of Windows. Microsoft Security Essentials is licensed for use on home PCs and by small businesses with 10 or fewer PCs. You can download alternative languages directly from www.microsoft.com/security_essentials with the “more information” link below. and Microsoft Security Essentials - 4.9.218.0 (KB3140479) Download size: 13.7 MB You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect. Update type: Optional You may not be running an anti-malware solution and this may leave your PC vulnerable to viruses, spyware and other malicious software. 4. It is ESS (Eset Smart Security). Home screen shows Green with "You are protected". Setup shows all Green and if I drill down the settings I previously reported. If I open Control Panel\System and Security\Action Center it shows Red Network firewall "Windows firewall is turned off or setup incorrectly" and red Virus protection "Windows did not find antivirus software on this computer."
  5. After upgrading ESS from 9 to 10 Win 7 thinks there is no firewall or virus protection and wants me to turn on windows firewall and find anti-virus online. I have checked ess 10.0.390.0 setup and Computer Protection (RTFS, HIPS, & webcam) are on, Internet Protection (all are on), Network Protection (all are on), and Security (Banking & Anti-theft are on). Should I turn on windows firewall too? How can windows 7 know there is anti-virus?
  6. I have EMS 3.5.78.0-0 on a Samsung Galaxy S5 (Sprint network) which I often put in Ultra power saving mode. Every time I come out of power saving, EMS notes that I can improve functionality by reviewing important device settings. When I do this, it takes me to Accessibility, with the last one being Services, ESET Mobile Security which is off. I turn is on and have to authorize EMS to monitor actions and retrieve window contents. After that EMS is happy until I come out of ultra power saving and it has to be done again.
  7. Does eset recommend upgrading to Win 10? I was getting inundated with Microsoft nag windows to upgrade to Win 10. After looking into it, I found I could reduce the nag windows by uninstalling KB3035583. But then Smart Security (SS) shows the OS not up to date. I do try to keep my OS up to date and use SS to detect available OS updates. But I am not sure if I am ready to go to Win 10. And if I am not ready to go to Win 10, I don't want to be pestered with nag windows trying to get me to download and install it. It would be nice if I could have SS notify me about recommended updates with the exception of KB3035583. And I heard the Win 10 is going to become a recommended update in 2016. Is SS going to show the OS is out of date for all Win 7 machines?
  8. I did physically disconnect from the internet and "Temporarily disable protection" and "Temporarily disable firewall" before trying to defrag. Is that what you mean by "disabling Self-defense"? I aslo tried booting to safe mode but the defragger needs a service that will not run in safe mode. It is not really errors. Just files that cannot be defragmented. With so much of eset being fragmented, that could be the cause of the system running slower than usual. One of my jobs is to keep the computers in the company running well. It would be nice it there was a way to temporarily close Smart security so the files can be defragmented. Any other suggestions?

  10. I have Smart Security 8.0.304.0 running on an XP Lenovo laptop and when I try to defrag with DiskKeeper (came with computer) there are many eset files that are fragmented and held open. I tried phyisically disconnecting from the internet and disabling as much as I could of eset and running the defrag again. Is there a way to temporarily close Smart Security so I can defrag? Attached is a fragmentation report listing the files.VolumeC.txt
  11. Fey Extractor can be downloaded from a link on the page hxxp://www.feytools.com/fey-extractor/ I think the program is OK but eset identifies it as Win32/DownWare.L potentially unwanted application. I try to submit it to eset as a False positive file but get an ESET Live Grid dialog saying Failed to submit sample for analysis.
  12. I have ESS 8.0.304.0 and the quick start icon went blue and it says "Operating system is not up to date" and the System updates available include "Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.189.1916.0)" as Important. When I click "Run system update" it does not show up as an available update in Windows Updater. ESS returns to showing Maximum Protection until after I reboot and the same thing occurs. This is not a major problem but I thought I would see if others have seen this, or if anyone knows why it is happening. I have seen this occasionally in the past but never bothered to bring it up.
