  1. you think that the company will support a retired OS forever? no! 2-3 more versions and they might discontinue it. think about it. when OS companies (linux, microsoft, apple, etc.) stop supporting their older products, it means that no new features and security updates are released for the retired products, which in turn mean that since no security updates are released, it is left vulnerable to whatever attack may rise in the future. and if a vulnerability X won't be patched in the OS, the AV company will have to make huge efforts to try and lower the impact on the affected computers. that costs time, money and a lot of work from the developers. but everyone can start saving money to buy one in the future
  2. also be warned that eset wont support win xp for a long time, maybe in version 10 or 11 they will drop support. having an OS without security updates leaves you EXTREMELY vulnerable and a AV won't help much if security holes are discovered by attackers in XP. you should consider getting a new pc and upgrading to win 8 or 10
  3. just because you lost the internet conenction for 3 seconds, doesnt mean that you were flooded or a ddos attack was performed against you. with every new major version the firewall is upgraded and made even more secure than the last. so as long as you stay updated in both the OS (in your case Win XP is no longer supported and you should consider upgrading to a newer OS), and you keep your AV updated you will be fine.
  4. just download it and install it. it will upgrade the current installation the website is www.real.com ESS will be triggered in many products that also pack unwanted stuff.
  5. yes, as long as you dont have MBAM run at the same time as Eset SS. you can run it whenever you want to perform a scan.
  6. and obviously you started it in the wrong section. anyway MS is downloading the upgrade to eligible computers even if you didn't select to reserve it, in case you decide later that you want it and you don't have to wait for the entire OS to download to the computer. after all the upgrade process won't start unless you explicitly select to start it.
  7. download real player form this link, it wll give you the full installer. hxxp://cache-download.real.com/free/windows/installer/player/rt1/T10ENFIB/RealTimes-RealPlayer.exe
  8. they are detected as PUA=potentialy unwanted applications. something in the installers, probably a toolbar or some advertisements are teh cause of the block. you can temporarily disable the firewall and install the programs, assuming you download them from the original website
  9. does it mater? the forum will get a lot of posts by users who downloaded it, and it will be annouced by the mods
  10. before accusing someone learn proper english. despise not despite now there could be tens of issues as to why the download is stuck at 0% or at 99% for hours. also most of the updates are cumulative and some replace the others so if a few years back you downloaded 200 updates after the format, and now only 100 is visible, that means that the other updates are replaced by newer ones. also some updates take very long time to install, for example the .Net Framework.
  11. thank you guys, i just thought that the final version was ready and that by downloading the beta it would be equivalent to the final after some updates
  12. by downloading the beta and letting it upgrade to whatever it will find, it will be the same as the final product? and what about the license key?
  13. telemetry data will always be sent over to microsoft one way or another, it's by design.
  14. i had no problems to use the removal tool in safe mode. try it again. and after starting the pc to safe mode, go to the folder where you saved the file and right-click it and run it as administrator. then follow the instructions.
  15. i downloaded and scanned the file which is about 300MB and it compelted in 0 seconds. since no malware was found you are good to go
  16. that's why you have the eset product installed, so you can be safe against malware.
  17. please upload an image so we can see what the issue is.
  18. i use win 10 and eset ss 8.0.319.0, there is a slight slow down but i guess it must be the OS since it's new and there might be issues untill several updates are released and solve most of them.
  19. newer versions of thunderbird have an excellent antispam system as long as you train it to recognize the spam and the good messages, after that it automatically marks spam as they arrive. I suggest to update to the newest to also benefit from the security improvements.
  20. it's very easy to update with the in product mechanism or by downloading the full package. but people are used to the old stuff and they won't let go
  21. version 8 was released in 2014 and is the current one. check the comparison page hxxp://www.eset.com/int/home/for-windows/
  22. you can use your existing license to the new version. also the "error opening" it could also mean that the files are used/locked by a windows or another process and thus they can't be opened. stay safe that they are always scanned during startup or shutdown of the pc.
  23. follow the instructions here to disable windows defender and yes there will be issues if more than one AV is enabled on the computer
  24. greek language was added a couple versions before, so i'm sure Arabic will be added sometime in the future
