tmuster2k 22
Have a customer who cannot launch his juno Email client unless we disable WEB access protection or add the add the exec.exe file that is contained in the Juno folder. Doing protocol filtering I know is not a good solution for email. I know real time is still running but what items could be missed if a malicious email got through to the email client ? Customer has already re-installed ESET and email client. Using the latest version of Juno client as well.
Administrators Marcos 5,242 Posted July 26, 2014 Administrators Share Posted July 26, 2014 Protocol filtering can affect pop3/imap/http communication but not launching applications. Maybe the client communicates with a mail server during the launch and if it fails at this stage for some reason it won't launch at all. The best would be if you could provide us with step-by-step instructions how to reproduce it. What operating system does the client use? Does switching to pre-release updates and running update make a difference? Does the client have SSL scanning enabled? Also please include information about installed modules and the version of the ESET product. As for email protection vs real-time protection, the former uses stronger detection techniques including LiveGrid to assess dangerousness of scanned emails. Clicks on Read Email and then gets a failed message. He is using the most updated client for Juno. Windows 7. SSL scanning was not turned on. Have not tried pre-release updates but may try later.
