Managing Clients outside local domain

Recommended Posts

Does Cloud Administrator have a way to manage mobile devices, laptops more specifically, that are not on the local domain? I have quite a few laptops assigned to employees that are working from home. They connect to the office's domain through a VPN. I would like to be able to keep these devices updated and able to see them even when they are not connected to the VPN. Is this at all possible with Cloud Admin?

Hello, in general yes. As the cloud server is hosted in the public cloud infrastructure, the only thing needed for it to work is internet connectivity.

So you can use CA to update client PC's while they're out of the office?

Correct. ESET PROTECT Cloud is accessible from anywhere and only Internet connection is required for clients to connect to it.

@LesRMed It depends on what you mean by "update". Basically the updating works in a way that:

  1. Modules required for the security software to work properly (configuration modules, machine learning modules, translator, virus definitions) are updated from ESET servers over the internet
  2. Version upgrades, are as well downloaded directly from the internet. From ESET PROTECT Cloud you can control / trigger upgrade of the product even if this is outside of your internal network. Once agent gets the command, it will trigger download / installation of the software package from ESET servers over the internet

If you use ESET Protect Cloud, and the computer is working, and there is no explicit firewall rule that will prevent our agent from connecting to the Protect Cloud backbone infrastructure (commonly accessible via the internet), you will see an up-to-date status of every computer.  Also, regardless where you are, you can access the ESET PROTECT Cloud web interface, even from a tablet / mobile device, over 4G/5G connection. It´s a really convenient method of remote management / supervision.

Hello @LesRMed, as of January 14, we have added technical compatibility with ESET PROTECT Cloud in EMA 2, meaning if you are an ESET MSP, you can (per this info, it is available in the US as well: https://www.eset.com/us/about/newsroom/corporate-blog/new-cloud-managed-security-for-a-new-business-world/). Please note, that there might be a slight difference in pricing, between the standard MSP licenses, and PROTECT Cloud eligible licenses, but I believe our NORAM sales team will be more than happy to assist you.

Regards,

Michal
