PF4Public 1
I'm confused about how virus signature and software updates are accomplished if using ERA. Old versions of ESET security product just poll update servers in a timely manner. How are updates accomplished if using era? If security software still request update server every 2 hour or so? Or does it communicate its status to ERA server via agent and if and only if ERA server told it to update it does so? If the last one is true, does it mean that if my ERA has no trigger for outdated software or virus signatures not a single workstation will update? Administrators Solution Marcos 4,720 Posted November 19, 2016 Administrators Solution Share Posted November 19, 2016 ESET's products check for newer update every hour. ERA Server doesn't do anything with updates. A preferred way of updating Endpoints in a network is from ESET's servers via an HTTP Proxy (Apache HTTP Proxy is also a part of the ERA v6 all-in-one installer). Alternatively you can use a stand-alone mirror tool, Endpoint v6 or a v6 server product to create a local mirror with update files. However, this is not recommended as the mirror would have to be also populated with update files that will never be used by clients. On the contrary, using an HTTP Proxy will ensure that only files actually needed by clients will be downloaded and cached for further use by other clients which will save a lot of Internet traffic. PF4Public 1
Thanks for your prompt answer. But what is the function of "outdated" trigger then? Is it just to notify me of a problem via smtp?
ESET Staff MichalJ 430 Posted November 20, 2016 ESET Staff Share Posted November 20, 2016 Basically the answer is yes. In some cases, clients might have a problem with updates, and this information will tell you that.
