  1. Have tried all of that......thanks for suggesting just in case though. I've even gone thru the registry after doing what you suggested looking for any residual entries. I don't know if its a windows 7 64 bit issue, which is what I'm running. Everything after version 7.0.302 gives me the problem I'm describing. i can always uninstaller newer versions and go back to v7.0.302 and then the computer scan option works just fine. Weird isn't it? Been running ESS since its launch and have never had this problem with any version. I'm running Win7 X64 as well so its not an issue that's OS specific. Do you have any other antivirus/spyware/malware app that's running in the background ?
  2. Put firewall in interactive mode. Start outlook and allow & remember the application when the firewall box appears and it should be fine
  3. Never had a problem myself with any scans. Have you tried uninstalling ESS then using the Eset removal tool and then installing again ???
  4. A colleague of mine has a similar Samsung SSD disk but didn't encounter any performance issue after installing v8. Does renaming C:\Windows\System32\drivers\ehdrv.sys and C:\Windows\System32\drivers\eamonm.sys in safe mode, one at a time, make a difference? Well, I removed the version 7 and did the test again with version 8, the same problem occurs. One possible solution was disable Scan on File open and File creation (Image on the link below) hxxp://i.imgur.com/k1xIp9u.png In this way I have no loss of performance, and it works as if I had disabled the antivirus. My post regarding this, was that my benchmark "Slowed" down when i had "Disabled" protection via the icon in system tray. There were beta versions released in the past that a performance degradation could be noticed without running any benchmarks. I still find that ESS has the least system impact on my setup from any antivirus products that i have used in the past. And using a specific benchmark like the samsung one that comes as part of their suite does not reflect on the "overall" performance of any setup. There are many factors that could affect performance, such as the chipset used , chipset drivers, sata drivers and even which way the drive has been setup up. Bad performance on anything will be noticeable in day to day use, without a benchmark.
  5. Did you run a first time scan on this SSD before running that benchmark ? And are you using V8 ?? Strange thing for me was that my benchmark actually slowed down when protection disabled Protection Enabled =============== hxxp://s15.postimg.org/c28b8c6zv/avon.jpg Protection Disabled =============== hxxp://s12.postimg.org/dsz5f8lwd/avoff.jpg
  6. That's because its just fine as it is For good sake, please revert the Eset logo as introduced in v7 with v6 i.e. from cCgvCzCs.pngto d3ZpKxk.png The icon is fine and helps identify the product. Every company on the planet uses a company logo, i cant see why Eset should be any different It does detect rootkits and malware and goes beyond that to detect PUP's. No not little dogs , but potentially unwanted programs. Memory overheads are still the same as v7 on my PC, and does not seem to be any slower or faster. I think because of the lack of features on v2/3/4 are what made them faster. Nowadays very few people are running hardware that should see any massive impact from an antivirus running.
  7. Everyone here wants security in it best possible form. But i feel that we are a long way from getting what would be ideal I an not overly confident and personally "expect the unexpected" and try to use what means are at my disposal to reduce my risks whilst online. The internet should be like your house, 1 key to unlock the door and walk in ,, or online 1 username and password........ but sadly the way software & sites have been coded from day one this is not an option. It was law that made it illegal to break into peoples property, you cant blame the lock manufacturer if someone manages to break it and get in. I fear that is going to take some massive security breach at a large multinational bank that forces the majority of people online to question online security as stands just now and force governments to act. But when you have Muppets like Snowden telling you that Governments are the bad guys , who do you trust
  8. Of course it harms their credibility and i would presume that Eset are not happy with the situation that they have found themselves in just now, the same can be said for an enormous company like ebay. Wilders uses 3rd party software to run their forums on a paid host and no more secure than any other board. All this forum asked for from me when i signed up was a email address and password, the same as any other forum. There are no credit card/bank details on here. Yes i care, but i also use a bit of common sense and use unique passwords for every site i sign up to. In the knowledge that if any site is breached then my password is useless to anyone that's managed to get hold of it. The internet is a "nice place for good people" , but can also be a "good place for bad people". Maybe in the future we can hope that there might be something like a "certificate" applied on websites/forums that gives you some sort of guarantee that if your details are stolen then you have some legal path that you can go down and make them accountable. This would need to be enforced by government agencies and not the security industry itself. Unlike just now, where every forum you sign up to has a disclaimer that you must read/tick the box to join. Stating that if anything goes wrong that nobody is responsible. But nobody reads these and just assumes that everything will be ok and then complain when it all goes wrong
  9. Some good and valid points raised here as most users will have no idea of how code actually works. It will be an ever running battle against viruses/exploits. Anyone with the talent can write a bit of code, that could be installed in literally millions of devices worldwide until its noticed that its bad code. Sadly no one is ever going to drop these languages as they are what everything is built on. Even if a new language was started from scratch, there will be people with the above said talent that can write just as destructive code in it. Best policy for online security outwith your A/V & Firewall Never use the same password on more than one site Never allow cross site posting on your behalf, like forums wanting to post to facebook/twitter accounts Never underestimate the underestimated
  10. Willy the sql server protector Patent that name
  11. This is going to happen regardless of what company or where the site is hosted. Once people find any type of exploit in any cms/forum software they can pull these databases at will. Companies depend on 3rd party software to run all these sites nowadays and that's always going to pose a risk. Even a disgruntled employee at any web host poses a risk . Enjoy the internet !!
  12. You cant go wrong with Eset smart security. You can get a free trial to try it out from the download section on eset site Its not overly complicated to use and does not slow your system down much. Prevention of infection is the most important this is why you should use eset smart security, as where things like combofix/malwarebytes are to clean up after an infection.
  13. Tried to update via tray icon > update, and says version is current 7.0.302.26 ? Will this be fixed or do i have to download installer and do it manually ?
  14. I do understand what you are saying but if you are using a wildcard as a mask then its going to mask everything with the text you are specifying. And i would guess that the block list would have a higher priority than the allow list, and this would probably not make it a fault with the software itself. Plugins like adblock plus , or standalone apps like admuncher cant use expansive wildcards and use lists of known ad servers/ip addresses to block the content. Ads by definition are not dangerous otherwise there would be no advertising at all. Yes there are sites that will auto install malicious software , but using a good antivirus and ad blocking software or browser plugin then you will have a really good chance that nothing like this will ever get onto your computer. There is no 100% guarantee and never will be. I'm only trying to offer you in my opinion the easiest solution to your problems
  15. I thought you were trying to block advertisement websites ?? , ad's are not viruses and no antivirus will block adverts. You need a dedicated AD blocking plugin for your browser to do this
  16. Well using * in front and behind text in any application that allows filters will block anything with the text specified Such as *age* , would block... sausage .... stoneage .....iceage .... aged .. ageism... ect Using filters like that will really cause you problems online, as it will end up blocking loads of sites and pages that you would like to see. Best using something like adblock plus for firefox and subscribe to some of the lists that are available for it, these wont websites that are not AD related
  17. you arrived late to the party. I suggest you read the entire thread and you will see that I was already provided with a solution instead of just posting nonesense I agree , you should really ask a question before posting nonsence. Getting angry and typing nonsence on a public forum, when things don't work to your timescale wont get you anywhere.
  18. i do agree with you that V4 is the fastest one i have ever used.and it will be great if v7 is faster than v6 . i think it should be HIPS which mainly affects the performence. What they said regarding v4. Performance has got noticeably worse since then. How on earth does Norton keep coming out of these tests so well? It has been absolutely dreadful in terms of performance on all machines I have seen it installed on for about 10 years. Very dodgy. Too true Nick , with regards to the Norton comment as its always been terrible . I think Norton ranks high as its supplied pre installed in a lot of pre built pc's and people have no idea as to how fast and stable their pc can be without it. I remember back when Mcafee got the same superb ratings too lol
  19. To be honest i think the performance related tests on any antivirus or security suite is going to be different on every computer its run on. Over the years i have tried every one and they all have issues of some sort and there will be tradeoffs with them. ESS v 4.0 is by far the fastest version i have ran on my own pc, but maybe others would say that v 5 or 6 are quicker. I have been running v7 since it came out on beta and its been better than its predecessor v6 by a mile for me and just keeping my fingers crossed that on release of the final version that its performance is on par with v4
  20. Check out hxxp://www.av-comparatives.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/avc_per_201304_en.pdf Paints a different picture out of 100 score Eset comes in at 99.4 for performance , and just a note that all those scores were tested on v6 ......... not the v7 "BETA"
