  1. If you connect to the Internet via wi-fi or DSL, it may take more time until an Internet connection is established. Does v7 update automatically after an hour when the program attempts to update next time?
  2. Perhaps you blocked Internet access for one of the crucial system processes, such as svchost.exe. Use interactive mode only if you know how to properly respond when asked to allow or block certain communication.
  3. Since you've mentioned having Malwarebytes installed, do you use the free or paid version? The driver used in the paid version is known to interfere with ESET under certain circumstances, I'd definitely try disabling MBAM's real-time protection to see if it makes a difference. If you have a dump ready, compress it, upload it to a safe location and pm me the download link. If necessary, I can provide you with access to our ftp server.
  4. Antivirus companies should detected actual threats, not just lab-borne made ones intended for studying or presenting one skills. If a threat makes it out of a lab, it definitely deserves to be detected so that users are protected against it. We've been seeing a lot of actual zero-day threats endangering users that were detected only by ESET and all other big vendors missed it (of course, some might have been detected and blocked by behavioral blockers but they are not used on mail servers or gateways so the overall protection is not 100% equal to what ESET provides). Since everything has been said and explained, we'll draw this thread to a close.
  5. Please post the exact error message you're getting when attempting to update.
  6. Each file in an archive is counted as an object. Maybe you could set a size limit for scanned objects or disable scanning archives if you want to run an on-demand scan on a regular basis.
  7. So you're publicly admitting to have created malware which might be considered a crime if you spread it and the malware performs malicious actions on victims' computers. If you don't spread it and the malware exists only on your computer, that answers why it's not detected by ESET.
  8. Please create a Process monitor log from the point when you access the advanced setup and the error occurs, compress it, upload it to a safe location and pm me the download link.
  9. If the ESET service (ekrn) crashes, enable generation of complete application memory dumps in the main setup -> Tools -> Diagnostics. When it crashes again, please compress the dump, upload it to a safe location and pm me the download link.
  10. Malware was removed from the website and thus we unblocked it.
  11. I presume that excluding c:\users\*\ntuser.pol should do the trick.
  12. Hello, further logs as well as examples of such emails will be required for investigation. Please contact your local customer care who will assist you.
  13. ESET cleans files by default, ie. unless you deliberately disable cleaning. Maybe you were referring to cleaning via the context menu scan which is available under Advanced options in versions up to v6. As of v7, cleaning is available as the first option in the context menu.
  14. ESET scans all files that are accessed by the operating system or other applications you have installed. If an application downloads a file or opens a website via http, you'll see that link as the object that is being scanned.
  15. The good news is that Antivirus and antispyware protection module 1406 is going to be released for v7 beta users shortly. After updating to this version and restarting the computer, the annoying gui issue with the application update progress bar will be gone.
  16. With HIPS disabled, malware can easily turn off your antivirus protection. Use it in default automatic mode which provides protection of crucial system and antivirus processes.
  17. Please export an on-demand scanner log with all scanned files logged to a text file and post it here or attach it to a personal message for me.
  18. The error message in question usually occurs if permissions to ESET's data files were modified. Perhaps we could arrange a remote session and fix it quickly.
  19. I assume it's because Windows XP didn't support lightweight drivers yet. Jumbo frames are supported in the ESET lightweight filter as of v6.
  20. Assuming the application is detected as a potentially unwanted application which is a fully optional detection and not a false positive, you can report it to ESET as per the instructions here. Having said that, we'll draw this topic to a close.
  21. The bug is actually in the program itself and there's no chance to make a brand new beta version and test it thoroughly within 2 days. However, a hotfix (workaround) will be distributed to v7 users by means of a module update soon.
  22. What about changing the firewall integration to "Only scan application protocols" or "Personal firewall is completely disabled" in the advanced setup?
  23. The update issue is discussed here and we assume it will be solved shortly by temporarily disabling notifications about newer versions. The issue doesn't affect updating as is more of a visual glitch than a serious issue.

    Beta 7

There's another forum dedicated to v7 beta and an ongoing dicussion about this issue. Having said that, we'll draw this topic to a close.
