Small question: Does ESET Smart Security use GPS for Anti-Theft?

Recommended Posts

I only heard that ESET Anti-Theft uses WLAN to find out where the device is.

Because many laptops have GPS included and there are also tablets/convertibles with Windows 8.x which of course have a GPS receiver.

So do you use it?

Yes that's why I asked this.

There are more and more tablets or convertibles (mix of tablets and netbooks/laptops) and it would be a bummer if ESS don't uses it.

I haven't heard an official answer, but I take it as I assumed and Arakasi said: No, only WLAN.

So, ESET, for you: Take this as a suggestion. For an Anti-Theft-Feature it is quite necessarily to have the best possible location. And if you can use GPS then you even ought to use it!

I use ESS v8 and although i am in the Netherlands and also my public router IP is a Netherlands IP address, anti-theft testing always puts me in Oklahoma USA. Also on other WLANs like at work anti-theft always puts me at the exact same coordinates!
