  1. Hi Alec, it's me again.

My Uncle Tom speaks with a lot of wisdom, as always.

I have Windows 10 on one computer that I am dual booting (Windows 7 and Windows 10 Insider Preview) I have been using 10 ever since it became available. I only use Windows 10 it a few minutes a day and it is fine.

I just don't like Microsoft trying to shove it down my throat. I have four Windows 7 computers and that I want until I change my mind.

I have software installed to keep Windows 10 out but on the Windows 10 on my dual boot computer I just found the folder $WINDOWS~BT. That is Windows 10 just dying to be installed. Nope- don't want it. I'll stick with the Insider Preview version..

  2. Glad to meet you Alec. My name is Joe and I'll be 82 in May.

Sorry to hear about the missus. I was a caregiver for my wife who had breast cancer for 6 years before I lost her at age 46 so I can appreciate what you are experiencing.

And in addition to being about your age I also don't like Windows 10.

    Welcome aboard. :)

  3. This link was posted by Marcos over on Wilders forum the other day and it's a good read, so here it is.

    Thanks again Marcos. :)

     Great read Tom. Thanks.

I saw Marcos' post and should pay more attention.

Today we are happy to announce our annual report called Windows exploitation in 2015. Readers who tracked our previous reports Windows exploitation in 2013 and Windows exploitation in 2014 may notice that in each new version of the report we try to highlight new security features introduced in Windows, web browsers and EMET. Along with this information, both previous reports contain information about vulnerabilities that have been fixed in various important Windows components, the .NET Framework and Microsoft Office. Our latest report is no exception.

Our main goal in writing these reports is to notify our customers, as well as other users, about the importance of installing updates to fix various unpatched (0day) vulnerabilities. We also provided information about ESET’s detections of in-the-wild exploits of these vulnerabilities. Such exploits are used by attackers to implement notorious drive-by download attacks.

    Good report SveX

    Thanks

  5.

As I mentioned to TomFace, I have never seen that.

Does it have anything to do with download speed? Mine really is not that fast.

    Just curious.

No, I don't think so. But the forum as been acting normal for the past few weeks for me anyway. Not fast enough ? Okay, then I'll take your 60/6 connection and you can take my 8/1 connection and see if you like it any better :D

Before Sept. 8 my speed was 7.2/1.4

I switched to Cable Internet and the price was less than the above.

  6.

Don't think a system restore and a change in ESET version is going to fly very well. Just a hunch.

I could always uninstall 8, reinstall a fresh copy, import my settings, and then install 9 over the top. Just to be extra safe.

Everything seems to have that stupid live installer, where are the offline versions?

    EDIT: Found em. :)

    Great.

I actually burned 8 and 9 on CDs.

Saves searching all over the place.

  7.

Well, an overlay will save your settings and it's a bit less painful. :P

True. It's easy enough to export my settings, and import them into the new version, but that is the fastest. Used to be no one recommended installing over the top, but I guess things have changed. :)

    Do it!

    Listen to the 81 year old geezer. :) :) :) :) :)

  8. I was hesitant when using Version 9 and went back to version 8.

I then ran 9 on a sacrificial computer for several days and now I have installed Version 9.0.349.0 on my other 3 computers.

    For me, it is fine.

You might give it a try and if you are not happy with it just go back to what you were running previously.

Oh no, if you decide to run it, install 9 over your existent version. I had better luck doing this. Why? No idea.
