  1. Swex, I have never set up (firewall) in interactive mode, but then again I do not do much downloading or loading of new programs. Is there anything for me to gain by switching to interactive mode to set up rules (for a short time), then going back to automatic mode? Having not ever done that, am I at any greater risk just using automatic?
  2. Very good you two! Good information.
  3. I am partial to Dogpile. It uses several other engines. It has a toolbar available, but I shy away from those things. And Happy New Year to you chrlshlmn and to all members, moderators and visitors.
  4. Hello Ryan-glad you are here! B)
  5. Thanks Marcos, see what you can find out. Real world-seat of the pants feel is what is important to me. SS7 does its job with minimal input from me. Some tests are akin to running across town to save 25 cents on a gallon of milk. Never mind the 2 gallons of petrol you used up in the process.
  6. I'm still not saying a word .
  7. I can only speak for myself, I use automatic mode because I like the program to do the thinking for me (I am retired). That being said, I do not do a lot of crazy things, or add a lot of new programs. hxxp://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN3190&actp=search&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=1387548758474 It works for me. B)
  8. I'm not saying a word... . Time to go supervise service on my Sopwith Camel F.1
  9. Linda50-No personal attack was intended and if taken so, please accept my apology. I am here to learn just as you are. I do not have the right to pass judgment on anyone in this forum or in life. I am just a user and not a company employee or representative. By the same token, if something does not make sense to me, I will ask a question so I can learn. Things (i.e...programs) may not always be what they appear to be. Sometimes that's good, other times, maybe not so good. Yes Swex, that's what I was thinking when I mentioned Softpedia.
  10. Janus, do you think the pup is exclusive to CNET hence your referral to Sony? What about going to Softpedia.com to obtain it? I find it rather curious that Sony would not have its own software available on its own website, even if it is new. Just doesn't make sense to me. Good to see SS7 doing its job!
  11. Recently when I was having connectivity issues, to help eliminate items, I did use my SS7 license to install, run and test NOD32. Also, when I just renewed my license, when asked Matt in ESET sales/svc did say a SS7 license could be used for NOD32. Like Peter said, (I guess) a downgrade to NOD32 is ok (at least it worked for me).
  12. Additional update-by clicking the toggle switch in the reply window first, you can then use the "quote" feature, insert URLs and input your message. When finished, re-click the toggle switch, review your post and then submit it. It's pretty painless...
  13. Thank you Janus-just did a quick view of it and intend to re-read it again-very good information for everyone!
  14. Hello and welcome Jabeen Ali-we are happy you have joined us. Much knowledge is available here. I am looking forward to reading your posts.
  15. Sorry, my mistake effi74. I was using the wrong side of my brain earlier (that happens from time to time). But as usual, SweX to the rescue!
  16. effi74, look at this hxxp://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN3190&actp=search&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=1386861593971 also this is from the help section in SS7: "Filtering can be performed in one of four modes: Automatic mode – The default mode. This mode is suitable for users who prefer easy and convenient use of the firewall with no need to define rules. Automatic mode allows all outbound traffic for the given system and blocks all new connections initiated from the network side." Hope this helps. I guess another thing you could do is uncheck the notify changes to start up applications in the HIPS advanced set up menu.
  17. You're welcome Janus! I like to poke/look around and unless I get a "terminal error window" saying "click yes to end the world" I will continue to do so.
  18. Janus, thanks for the info. I actually have been PMg with Peter R about this issue (granted I use Win 7) as I thought it might be unique to my machine . This started for me when I was having the connectivity issues a few weeks back and just got my machine back from the shop. I could not quote a previous comment or insert URLs in my posts. So I just fooled around with it and discovered the small toggle switch in the upper left corner, next to the eraser of the "reply to this topic" window. By clicking it (turns blue) and I can then insert URLs (at least) and click it again. Do not know what it is called, but it works for now as Peter was able to recreate the issue and refer it.
  19. Hello Nizrax000 and welcome-glad you're here!
  20. SweX-I hear what you're saying. I find the ads bothersome . I added EasyPrivacy to my tracking protection-I'll see how it flies. Been using IE for a long time, still playing with Firefox.
  21. Thanks User-I do have Firefox as well...
  22. I have been using AdFender which has not caused me any issues. I recently updated to IE11. AdFender was not updated to work with IE11-I contacted their support and an update was to have been completed last week. Do not think it's been released as of yet (I'm getting no blocked ad count). I thought I read (on this forum) that Admuncher has caused some issues with ESET products. On that note, what ad blocker do you use?
  23. Thank you Janus, and the best back to you, the Moderators and the other members of this forum.
  24. Yes! Hello bluwiz and Arby. Welcome. B)
