  1. I've had this issue once about a month ago, same as rugk, however it was in Safari and even though third party cookies and data were blocked, they are still blocked and I'm able to login and logout without an issue ever since. At the time I cleared my cache and cookies, closed the browser, and when I tried it again the next day, all was fine again. I'm not too sure that the issue is about third-party cookies though, personally.

  2. The new icon works well for brand recognition on devices. You see the ESET icon, representing their brand, on their own security products. It's useful to promote ESET in general, like when someone views a device on a projector or at a friends house and you see the 'e' icon and they either ask what it is (for you to talk about ESET), or recognise that you are using an ESET product.

If there was anything to consider, maybe trying to adapt the icon to match with the system you're using it on. One example is ESET Mobile Security for Android, which already uses an unique icon which blends well.

Mac OS X with Cyber Security - OS X already uses a grey menubar with dark, transparent icons, so you could make the 'e' icon without the white background for that as well, or even black to match: (Yosemite now suits ESET's icon perfectly!)

For Windows, you could also match with system icons - but the icon at the moment does seem okay. Either way, a quick visual concept:

  3. Still, from the discussion above, nobody has explained to me yet what 'deny remote maintenance' means and how it can be achieved. Some clarification would be highly appreciated indeed. My modem/router is an Eminent EM4565 if that is of help.

Arakasi below provides a much better explanation than I once had here.  :P

Having a look around I found a firmware change log for a similar Eminent device with this on it:

"Option to disable portal service (remote access). Go to Preferences > Portal Server."

Because this is for a different Eminent device and don't have access to one to check myself, it could be wrong or in a different place within the routers configuration section.

  4. At any rate planet's suggestion to delete the profile may be good enough. I would try not to delete the ESET profile though as you may have to reinstall at that point too, unless the web portal will assist with new creation. :)

EDIT: Whoops! Understood now. Now that I think of it, maybe even just disabling anti-theft from Smart Security, removing device from myESET (if still listed), removing the phantom account (if still there) and reenabling anti-theft (setting it up again) may work, avoiding having to reinstall Smart Security itself.

Sorry Arakasi, little confused - I did disable anti-theft from within Smart Security first, uninstalled Smart Security, then visited my.eset.com to see if the device was removed (and would remove it if not). When I reinstalled Smart Security, enabled anti-theft again (including logging into myESET) and set the User Account name, and myESET added the device again.

So basically I uninstalled, removed the device from myESET and essentially started again, like the device wasn't with myESET Anti-theft in the first place.

  5. I noticed a new user account with the name "ymvifpcstwob".

I'm wondering if in fact it really was created by ESET and not by an outsider that breached my security.

Sounds similar to my experience a while ago... was running Smart Security on Windows 8 and even though I set a name for it a random user account appeared with similar jumbled letters. After deleting it and rebooting, the same user appeared. I basically disabled anti-theft within the program, uninstalled Smart Security from 'Add/Remove Programs', rebooted to see the user with jumbled letters removed (but if it's not, just remove it yourself), downloaded and reinstalled a fresh version from the ESET website and reconfigured it from scratch (not export and import settings). Then, the right user was created with the name I wanted for anti-theft and not one with jumbled letters since.

So to answer your recent post, it also happened to me and occurred from Smart Security and anti-theft.

  6. Might be a silly question, but what does Cyber Security do at the moment in regards to Time Machine?

There has been advice to exclude Time Machine in security software to avoid delays or issues with backing up, but what about ESET? Does Cyber Security do this automatically or should I make an exclusion myself? Or can I just leave it as is?

  7. Hello, I'm planet.  :)

Been interested in computers & tech, operating system and application interfaces and their possibilities. As a kid used to tinker with settings and discover new features within Windows, Mac OS, etc. and now love testing any user interface, thinking about user experience. Currently a designer, and front-end web developer, and am continuing to create and design user interfaces, websites and applications in my spare time.

Part of the above includes security software, so not only did I want to find a security solution that provided awesome protection, but a lovely and useful user interface as well. After trying others for a while, I eventually settled with ESET. The best protection that I've seen with a great user interface that gives the right balance between something too bland and complicated, and something too overly designed and limited. I can feel rest assured with you on the Macs, PCs and Smartphone.

  8. Now had my seventh Kernel Panic. Since the update to 10.9.3, it's been happening daily for me. Was just loading a webpage from a Google Search result, nothing else. I'll stop posting when I have the panic now as it's a daily occurrence.

  9. @Planet please run it directly from terminal as an administrator with elevated privileges, it should work.

That what I did, and I still received that message (with sudo and without, my user account is an administrator). This is the first time getting this message. The usual files from ESET Support work fine in previous cases.

  10. @ALL: To get all required logs please use this Info_get script, password is "clean".

Just run the script, upload the output archive to safe location and provide me with direct download link and encryption password via Private message.

I've just tried to use the script, but I get an error message about not having the appropriate access privileges and can't seem to resolve it, even when I go to 'get info' and make me the owner, and set all groups to 'read and write'. Even tried 'sudo open' in terminal and got the same error message.

  11. @Planet: Try to enlarge timeout for kernel spinlock to avoid crash by command: "sudo nvram slto_us=0xffffffff" and restart for apply.

In case you experience kernel panic please provide us with logs as described on the end of this post.

Minutes ago I've just experienced my sixth Kernel Panic by esets_proxy. This time I clicked on a link from an email, Safari was partly loading it, and everything froze then crashed. This panic was after the commend suggested.

I'm getting these panics more often in the past week for some reason, should I continue having the command applied or should I revert back to default since it's not helping with the panics?

I'll send you a PM shortly with all logs.

  12. a user has started this thread and pinned it [..] no forum admins have said anything, but maybe just maybe it will make it in?

I didn't pin it, as I'm just a user. Also I'm not sure if ESET listened or will do anything about what has been said, I do hope so but I'm not sure.

In terms of IMAPS or POPS, I was originally disappointed with not having such a feature, however I am hopeful that it will be implemented in the next version (7).
