  1. Just an update to say that as of version 6.0.14.0, with OS X Yosemite, and the most recent virus signature database, ESET Cyber Security (and Pro) now immediately detects and deletes the uTorrent download as soon as it has finished downloading, finding "Adware.Spigot.A application".

Real-time file system protection; file; /Users/name/Downloads/uTorrent.dmg; /Adware.Spigot.A application; cleaned by deleting; Event occurred during an attempt to access the file by the application: /System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app/Contents/MacOS/Dock.

  2. Hi Planet,

Unfortunately the instructions in the article are designed to make sure that on-demand scanning doesn't hang, not to optimize write times to your external drive when you are performing a back up. I will have to get back to you as to what the best way to speed up the backup process while RTFS protection is on.

    Hi CB530,

Any update in regards to this?

  3. I'm having good luck so far with the recent 6.0.14.0 release in terms of the surfing freezes - curious to know if everyone else here is also not having any trouble? Using Safari on Yosemite.

Edit: Never mind, although I'm not experiencing any slowness, esets_proxy continues to crash and leave me unprotected for a few hours.

  4. An update - shutdown is at least delayed 30 seconds.

After some testing and looking through logs, I found that esets_daemon may be the cause of the shutdown delay.

(com.eset.esets_daemon) Service has increased maximum shutdown time to 65 seconds. This will create a poor experience for the user.

Is there a way for esets_daemon (and the other ESET processes) to be shut down normally with the other OS X processes, so it doesn't cause this delay?

    Edit: Still occurring with 6.0.14.0

  5. Should there be an revision to the KB article about reinstalling Cyber Security (and Pro) as a troubleshooting step, to mention about the warning message that appears when trying to install? The installer currently warns the user that the current version is only for 10.6 to 10.9 of OS X and encourages the user not to continue with the installation, even though ESET is suggesting to reinstall anyway in the article.

  6. I'm not familiar with the dialog shown in your screenshot. If you are using a work machine, you might need to speak with your Admin about getting past that dialog.

I can't view the images hosted on tinypic.

Did you follow the instructions here? How do I uninstall or reinstall ESET Cyber Security or ESET Cyber Security Pro?

Particularly, If you receive the message "Identity of the installer cannot be confirmed" you may need to configure Apple gatekeeper options to allow applications to run regardless of their source. Visit the Apple support article on this topic.

The window that Marcelo is showing is when an application crashes on OS X (like in Windows when it shows that window to report the problem to Microsoft after an application stops responding and crashes).

Basically he's able to bypass Gatekeeper, but the ESET Uninstaller itself crashes at some point.

    Here's his screenshot below.

Update: I just downloaded the latest DMG file from the ESET website and ran that uninstaller on Yosemite - the uninstaller worked fine, so I suggest that Mercelo tries the uninstaller from the DMG file instead of the one provided within the application. (CB530 just linked a KB article on a manual uninstall, which would better suit)

  7. Given how long Yosemite's been in Beta, I'm surprised ESET have not got compatible products already available

I'm seeing issues with Airdrop from an iPhone, no doubt there will be others

I'm not wanting to remove ESET, but I suspect I may have to

Weety... I agree. Every major 3rd party app I own has already upgraded to accommodate Yosemite. So, yet again, I find myself waiting on ESET to release a compatible version before I can install an OS that, in this case, has been in Beta since July of this year. I really like ESET and find their products to be the best on the market... I just wish they'd be a bit more responsive to their customers needs.

I have a feeling that given the number of issues users are experiencing with Cyber Security (and Pro) at the moment, they are trying to resolve those particular issues until they release another major version - so that the next update addresses both the previous issues and compatibility with Yosemite, and there isn't the necessity to upgrade twice so close together. I could be completely wrong however, it's only a guess.

I don't think ESET would delay a compatible release on purpose.

  8. At the moment Cyber Security is not fully compatible with the recently released OS X Yosemite.

ESET provides a KB article with some troubleshooting steps: Can I use my ESET for Mac products with OS X Yosemite (10.10)?

With the major changes (eg. new UI) and it being quite a significant release, I'm not surprised that ECSP is having issues without an updated version. If you continue to have problems after following the troubleshooting steps, the KB article recommends contacting ESET Customer Care

Personally, I would uninstall Cyber Security Pro until ESET releases an update that is fully compatible with Yosemite.

  9. Have you tried adding exclusions of any of the directories to see if boot speed clears up ?

How about disabling scheduler and start up scans planet ?

What directories would you suggest excluding? I'm particularly concerned for shutdown, boot only takes about five seconds from power on to desktop as per usual.

Disabling the available items within scheduler doesn't change anything I'm afraid.

Didn't mean to go off-topic in here, sorry Planet, only to mention there is issues in both camps at the moment.  :D

    No it's fine, completely understand!

  10. That doesn't sound fun Planet :(  And I can't imagine that its normal and meant to work like that.

It's not too fun... this is happening on one of the latest MacBook Pro's available (and also tested on an older model) and was happening since version 5 last year. I was thinking that version 6 would have done something or that someone else may have noticed it and reported it.

With all the other issues combined, I've had to temporarily stop using Cyber Security Pro until a resolution is made.  :(

  11. Hello mrsgee,

Let's get this sorted for you.  :)

Please check your Gatekeeper settings by following these steps:

    1. Click on the apple logo on the top left of the screen
    2. Click 'System Preferences...'
    3. Click 'Security & Privacy'
    4. On the 'General Tab', make sure 'Allow apps downloaded from:' is set to 'Mac App Store and identified developers'.

If that is okay, please redownload the DMG file of Cyber Security Pro from the official ESET website:

    hxxp://www.eset.com/int/download/home/detail/family/172/

Open the DMG file and double click on the uninstaller provided.

If it doesn't work and you're still getting the error message, right click on the uninstaller and click 'Open' from the menu that appears. You should then be able to click 'Open' similar to the error message.

After uninstalling, you must restart your Mac.

The other issue now is that NOD32 is not available for Home Users of Mac OS X, as ESET currently provides either Cyber Security (Essential protection on the Mac and Web, similar to NOD32), or Cyber Security Pro (including Firewall and Parental Controls, similar to Smart Security) to home users on Mac OS X.

Here's a link for more information about Cyber Security:

  12. Hello,

I've noticed that with ESET Cyber Security Pro installed, my MacBook Pro takes very very long to shutdown.

Usually it shutdowns in a few seconds, but with ECSP installed it increases the time it takes, sometimes over a minute.

Any reason for the long shutdown?

  13.

I noticed the ESET International or other ones outside the USA don't have version 8 available yet - is it okay downloading and installing from the US site for use outside the US or is it better to wait until version 8 is released in the relevant localised sections of ESET's website?

Yes sure no problem. I have download the installer from the International, US, and Local site through the years, there's no difference that I know of anyway. :)

Yes I'm in UK, your good to go :-)

Great, thanks!  :D Congratulations to the ESET team for releasing version 8.

  14. @planet In your screenshot can't you chose what to do with the file instead of "no action" if you click on it ?

Edit: to make sure the real-time scanner works is the eicar test file detected as it should?

    hxxp://www.amtso.org/feature-settings-check.html

You can select 'Delete' and it is able to successfully delete it, but it's still strange why the real-time scanner doesn't do anything...

For the AMTSO feature settings check, every single one of them is working with Cyber Security Pro.

  15. So you mean Eset firewall can work with 2 zones at the same time ? Because, despite it seems to be a good solution to my problem, when VPN connected ESET recognized the utun0 interface and therefore load zone 2 (let's call it like that) and allow basic rules like I said before. But if an attempt of connection from my real IP pops up while still connected to VPN with utun0 (so if there is a LEAK) would ESET take into account the 2 zones ? I mean would it block the leak because it's in zone 'Block all from real IP' and also continue to allow trafic on utun0 which belongs to 'zone 2' ?

I thought it could only deal with one zone at each time and has to change between zones.

    Am I wrong ?

    Oops. You are right.  :(

The firewall assigned profiles for each interface, and after testing it out myself I saw Cyber Security Pro crash and freeze when I tried using two zones at once, or just use the most recent zone available.

I'm sorry about that, hopefully another member has another method or solution for you.

  16. I've downloaded Utorrent from its official website and installed it on my Mac, but after a day, Eset gave me a warning states that Utorrent.dmg is "dangerous", and I followed the standard procedure and deleted it. To make a test, I downloaded Utorrent from its official website and Eset deleted it again.

Interesting how it gives an alert after a day and not immediately - the realtime protection doesn't detect anything and what I think is happening is the scheduled startup scan is detecting it instead as it scans through.

I can download the dmg without warning, open it without warning... It's only when I set a custom scan on the dmg or leave it on the Mac to let the scheduled scan run that it either comes up with this window, or just logs with 2 infected files and nothing actually done.

Also find it strange that it can't be moved to quarantine either...

  17. First question is : do I have to disable built-in os x firewall so as to make eset firewall work correctly ?

Second question : How do i setup the firewall so as to NO OUTBOUND connexions could escape from my real IP address (192.168.0.0/24) to the internet.

    Hello,

For your first question, yes you will need to disable the built in firewall to stop Cyber Security Pro from displaying the warning message.

For the second question, maybe you could create a new zone with your real IP and assign that zone to a custom profile, blocking all connections from that IP?

Edit: Steps removed due to it not working, as it assigns profiles to interfaces, not IPs.

Hopefully this is what you were wanting.  :)
