ESET Insiders puff-m-d 120 Posted February 19, 2016 ESET Insiders Posted February 19, 2016 Hello, I am seeing the modules updating on every update (whether scheduled or done manually). I am seeing both the windows notification and an event in the log stating that the modules have been updated.This started yesterday morning. See the attached logs: 02/19/16 4:23:47 PM;ESET Kernel;The program modules have been updated.; 02/19/16 3:23:47 PM;ESET Kernel;The program modules have been updated.; 02/19/16 2:23:27 PM;ESET Kernel;The virus signature database was successfully updated to version 13057P (20160219).; 02/19/16 1:22:11 PM;ESET Kernel;The program modules have been updated.; 02/19/16 12:21:43 PM;ESET Kernel;The program modules have been updated.; 02/19/16 11:20:48 AM;ESET Kernel;The program modules have been updated.; 02/19/16 10:21:08 AM;ESET Kernel;The virus signature database was successfully updated to version 13056P (20160219).; 02/19/16 9:21:20 AM;ESET Kernel;The virus signature database was successfully updated to version 13055P (20160219).; 02/18/16 11:39:37 PM;ESET Kernel;The program modules have been updated.; 02/18/16 10:37:37 PM;ESET Kernel;The program modules have been updated.; 02/18/16 9:37:36 PM;ESET Kernel;The program modules have been updated.; 02/18/16 8:37:37 PM;ESET Kernel;The program modules have been updated.; 02/18/16 7:37:37 PM;ESET Kernel;The program modules have been updated.; 02/18/16 6:37:55 PM;ESET Kernel;The virus signature database was successfully updated to version 13052P (20160218).; 02/18/16 5:37:32 PM;ESET Kernel;The program modules have been updated.; 02/18/16 4:37:21 PM;ESET Kernel;The program modules have been updated.; 02/18/16 3:37:21 PM;ESET Kernel;The program modules have been updated.; 02/18/16 2:37:43 PM;ESET Kernel;The virus signature database was successfully updated to version 13051P (20160218).; 02/18/16 1:37:20 PM;ESET Kernel;The program modules have been updated.; 02/18/16 12:37:20 PM;ESET Kernel;The program modules have been updated.; 02/18/16 11:37:19 AM;ESET Kernel;The program modules have been updated.; 02/18/16 10:37:43 AM;ESET Kernel;The virus signature database was successfully updated to version 13050P (20160218).; 02/18/16 9:37:46 AM;ESET Kernel;The virus signature database was successfully updated to version 13049P (20160218).; Viewing the "About ESET Smart Security" info, it can be verified that the modules are not being updated that often. Current modules are: Virus signature database: 13057P (20160219) Rapid Response module: 7532 (20160219) Update module: 1060 (20150617) Antivirus and antispyware scanner module: 1479 (20160203) Advanced heuristics module: 1167 (20160128) Archive support module: 1245 (20160118) Cleaner module: 1118 (20160205) Anti-Stealth support module: 1094 (20160119) Personal firewall module: 1297 (20160126) ESET SysInspector module: 1257 (20151113) Real-time file system protection module: 1012 (20151124) Translation support module: 1454 (20160212) HIPS support module: 1213 (20160211) Internet protection module: 1226.10 (20160211) Web content filter module: 1046.1 (20151202) Advanced antispam module: 3269P (20160219) Database module: 1077 (20160212) Configuration module (33): 1213.12 (20160204) LiveGrid communication module: 1020 (20150807) Specialized cleaner module: 1010 (20141118) Banking & payment protection module: 1057 (20160115) Rootkit detection and cleaning module: 1000 (20151228) Network protection module: 1058 (20160219) I am using ESS version 9.0.349.14 (with pre-release updates) on a Windows 10 Pro version 1511 (OS Build 10586.104). Clearing the update cache followed by a reboot does not help. I can switch back to regular updates and the issue disappears but once I go back to the pre-release updates, the looping/never-ending module update issue comes back. It is 100% reproducible on my system and definitely only happens with pre-release updates and not regular updates. Any ideas, like maybe a bad pre-release module maybe causing this?
PolandString 0 Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Same thing. It's not just you. I'm staying with regular updates for the time being
ESET Insiders puff-m-d 120 Posted February 20, 2016 Author ESET Insiders Posted February 20, 2016 Hello PolandString, Thanks for the confirmation that you are seeing the same issue as I am ...
Administrators Marcos 5,455 Posted February 20, 2016 Administrators Posted February 20, 2016 It seems it happens only when you manually run update. Could you confirm?
ESET Insiders puff-m-d 120 Posted February 20, 2016 Author ESET Insiders Posted February 20, 2016 Hello Marcos, It happens with both manual and automatic pre-release updates. I have not done any manual updates at all today and here are the logs: 02/20/16 4:50:53 PM;ESET Kernel;The program modules have been updated.; 02/20/16 3:50:52 PM;ESET Kernel;The program modules have been updated.; 02/20/16 2:51:14 PM;ESET Kernel;The virus signature database was successfully updated to version 13061P (20160220).; 02/20/16 1:51:12 PM;ESET Kernel;The program modules have been updated.; 02/20/16 12:50:51 PM;ESET Kernel;The program modules have been updated.; 02/20/16 11:50:51 AM;ESET Kernel;The program modules have been updated.; 02/20/16 10:50:50 AM;ESET Kernel;The program modules have been updated.; 02/20/16 9:51:48 AM;ESET Kernel;The virus signature database was successfully updated to version 13060P (20160220).;
Administrators Marcos 5,455 Posted February 20, 2016 Administrators Posted February 20, 2016 I don't have any duplicate records of a module update in my Endpoint v6 log. I was able to reproduce it by running manual update so I've collected the appropriate logs and files for engineers. Obviously no additional data is downloaded, only the Network protection module seems to be recompiled with every update. We'll see what the engineers will come up with.
