is oracle VM server supported ?

Recommended Posts

am trying to explore various options available for installing era.

on windows server, on linux server, on Vmware Vsphere hypervisor 6.5 using era appliance, on hyper-V using era appliance etc.

two questions :

1. would like to know if installation of era appliance is supported on oracle VM server 3.4.

2. also which combination will require least hardware configuration or rather to put it differently, which combination will work most efficiently for a given hardware configuration.

It is not officially supported (see documentation: Supported Desktop Provisioning Environments) and it is not tested in this environment. We are not aware of any deployments in Oracle VM Server environment, but ERA appliance deployed in Oracle VM VirtualBox is working without problems.

There should be almost no difference for smaller deployments. Once number of managed computers will be more than 5000, there may be differences in performance of database servers (see sizing in documentation: Infrastructure building and sizing). Also be aware that ERA appliance is not configured/prepared for high-profile applications. When it comes to performance limits, bottleneck is in most cases disk storage -> I would prefer VM environment that has best disk IO capabilities.
