I note that versions 10 onwards do not support Windows XP.

But version 9 will run on XP and loads newest virus sig's but doesn't do a 'product' update to v10.

So, would my XP computer be protected ok with the 9.0.386.0 version or would it be missing something of importance?

    Thanks for any info.

I'm sure I read one of the mods had it working on XP but it's technically not officially supported.

However I'm not sure about other people, but I probably wouldn't recommend using XP as it is no longer supported by Microsoft so it doesn't receive updates including bug fixes. While security programs will protect you to a degree I can imagine if a security hole is found you'd be at risk

    Hi,

    I'd like to request :

    1) Built-in anti-malware, if not auto scan then atleast a built-in tool that can be manually run

    2) PC tuner which will will delete obsolete files and registry such as left over after installing/uninstalling softwares, files and registry no longer in use or linked to any program, other junk such as cookies, temporary internet files etc

    3) A manual tool to restore default host file, clear prefetch files, clear proxy settings in case they are set by a malware, clear page file / hibernation file.

    4) Boot time / native scan where the system is scanned for viruses after post but before operating system is completely loaded. This will help to eliminate infections that cannot be removed when the operating system is running.

I understand so many features may convert Eset to a heavier software while at the moment it is light weight. But I trust the developers will handle this.

Isn't a virus a type of Malware? I know as well as viruses Eset finds things such as potentially unwanted programs (PUPS). As for a PC Tuner, it's been asked for before and I doubt we will see it for exactly the reason you hinted at. Eset is a security suite and should really focus on that. For cleaning and stuff there are great free programs aka CCleaner.

As far as linking a firewall profile to a sign-on account, not possible as far as I am aware off.

What you could do is set the "global" firewall profile to Automatic.

You could create another firewall profile and set that to Interactive. When you log on, you could switch to that profile in Eset. However, until you accessed the Eset GUI to switch profiles, you would running under the global profile Automatic criteria.

The problem is that all your existing Interactive firewall rules have been created under the default global profile. Eset doesn't have a way of transferring rules from one profile to another as far as I am aware of.

Also, you really should only have one local admin account for security reasons.

Will maybe mention it as a suggestion. sadly its unrealistic having just one admin account. its both of our computers and she needs to have full access

I suspect this was done for security reasons.

Cybellum, a while back, caused quite a public stir by showing a number of AV security vendor products could be disable/bypassed since they were not running in Windows 10 protected mode or otherwise locked down.

Whereas Eset's kennel process does run in protected mode, the gui process does not. Eset subsequently "tightened up" the gui's self-protection. However, the Eset desktop icon options are technically part of Eset's gui processing but rather extensions of it. So clever malware could access those desktop icon options and disable all of Eset's protections by enabling the "Pause Protection" option; namely its realtime protection.

Wouldn't that mean they should also have removed the disable firewall part?

  5. Since updating to the latest version 10.1.204.0 I noticed a change. When right clicking on the Eset icon in the taskbar I can see the firewall disable option (pause) alongside other options. However the pause protection option that used to be there is missing. Is this intentional and if so would eset consider bringing back the option. It was very handy having it there.

    Thanks

Thanks for sharing, please let us know how it went.

note: please do not speak very much about the "10.2." in the public part of the forums,...

    Thank you, P.R.

Sorry if this shouldn't be mentioned but is this a Beta. I've heard it mentioned once before and do check the beta's as enjoy trying the new versions but have not seen anything

I didn't find any button to scan the router in my ESET Internet Security 10, normally this button appeared in Home & Network Protection, as per screen shot bellow.

Please advise me how to find this button/menu to scan the router.

    Awaiting the advice.

    NO SCAN ROUTER BUTTON.jpg

Seems there for me. What version of Internet Security are you using - you can find this by going to the update option. Mine states the version is 10.0.390.0

All I can think of if it is up to date is possibly a re-install or contacting support and sending some logs over.

I'd like to know if there is any real advantage to having Malwarebytes installed along side EIS.

Most all of the my searches on the subject refer to Malwarebytes in it's previous form and to Eset v9.x or earlier. I have not reinstalled MBAM nor do I want to unless there is clearly an increase in the protection to my excellent running Win7 Pro x64 system.

I'm not sure about how good the new version is compared to the old version but I've always liked having a second scanner. No security program is perfect so i use second one in case anything is missed by the first

Users can choose between ESET NOD32 Antivirus, ESET Internet Security (contains a firewall, antispam, Webcam protection and Home network protection ) and ESET Smart Security Premium (contains additional features like Password manager, Disk encryption and Anti-Theft).

Oh yes. What I was wondering and why I put it in general - do you think a security vendor could ever create a truly customisable suite. E.g. every feature you can think of but with the options to instal the features you want and leave the ones you don't during installation.

  10. One of the things I've noticed over the years on these forums is people asking for questionable features. By questionable I mean the extra stuff that many other security programs seem to come with these days, but aren't often needed and often if anything bloat the software and the users computer. Things like toolbars that can be annoying and cleaning tools which really should be handled by other software.

However this got me thinking about something - Would a fully customisable security program work? By this I basically mean a security suite that worked on something like modules, with users able to pick and choose which modules they wanted. That way security programs could include extras that other people might want yet also give those just wanting the basics what they want. The problem is a lot of people seem to pick things not based on what features they have but the number of features. Phones are really bad at this, cramming 100s of features with a battery that can't often handle them, but knowing the more features they have the more chance people will buy. One of the reasons I use Eset is it sticks to what it knows, but I wonder if customisation could even work in a security suite. I suppose even if it could work, the price would be higher due to the amount of features.

If the AMSTO web site is down - does this mean ESET was not working?

I tried this morning and got the following, is this what to expect?:

    Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /feature-settings-check-cloud-lookups/ on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Apache Server at www.amtso.org Port 80

There are other tests online such as this one I have used in the past hxxp://www.eicar.org/85-0-Download.html

  12. I have to agree with Marcos. I've seen other AVs add features like startup manager, file cleaning etc. but these are the jobs of clean up utilities such as ccleaner. Eset in my opinion is good because it sticks to what it is good at - an antivirus should just be that, an antivirus. When you start to add other stuff you can risk making the program too big and too much of resource hog.

The only thing I'd maybe suggest is adding a better update system. Currently you can get Eset to let you know of windows updates but an option to warn you of other non microsoft out of date software might be handy. My reasoning for this is often out of date software can at times pose a security risk. However there are other software that can do this, but they can be hit and miss.

Good, I was worried that Eset didn't knew about the security holes.

If anything it shows the importance of newer versions. Yes I know a lot of people aren't always keen on change and dislike when designs change but sometimes it's best just to update. There seems to still be people who think Microsoft should update an old aging os aka xp.

Feel free to post screen shots of other firewalls. As I have mentioned, as of v9 rules are evaluated in the order they appear in the list and it's not possible for user to choose between the rule evaluation logic used until v8 and in newer versions.

The AVG one is probably the better one - it shows the rules organised by name along with icons.

I suppose the question is why can't Eset change it so that the rules can be arranged like previously. I know most average users probably won't visit the rules but it should still be designed in a way that is easy to navigate like previously.
