  1. Not keen on the multiple versions. I've seen a lot worse but having 2 versions the Antivirus and the extra higher one just makes it much easier. Too many AV's have multiple versions for choice but it ends up hurting the end user because they don't know what to pick e.g. avg I've seen has protection, protection pro, internet security etc.

  2. New Idea's

Add Email attachment filtering (Blocking via extension)

Add Password protection option for removable Media like Pen Drive.

Add Temporary and Junk file cleaner.

    This features many customers requirements.

Add Temporary and Junk file cleaner.....

    ... -_-

    hxxp://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/slim

    ;)

I used to like the idea of having file cleaners and stuff in AV suites but then you realise it just bloats things, slows things down etc. I'm glad Eset seems to be sticking to what it does best and focusing on they key things rather than adding extra stuff. There's separate software for things like that.

One thing I'd like to ask is does Eset use sandboxing technologies as if it doesn't it would be a handy addition, as it would mean possible infected/suspicious files would be tested in a virtual environment away from users files.

I've also noticed Eset checks for windows updates. Would Eset consider looking for unsafe/dangerous settings. While Ccleaner is the main cleaning tool I use, I've used TuneUp Utilities in the past (Before AVG bought it), and the one good thing it did was look for settings that could put your computer at risk. Like I said earlier Eset shouldn't add cleaning tools but if it was able to suggest changes to further strengthen your computer, it would be great.

  3. No, this is not possible. However, most used actions are available after clicking our tray icon.

Would be really handy to run the Firewall troubleshooter from the quick links bit and also activate/deactivate game mode. Certainly the Firewall troubleshooter - usually when something stops working the first thing is turn security off to see if it's a firewall issue so having that there to access quickly would be very handy

  4. As I know MS updates (upgrades) cannot be refused (blocked) on 10240 RTM I'm only testing the AV

testing th fwall is too much of a wager

Updates can be delayed on the pro version I belieive.

However the problem with Eset isn't related to the stable version of Windows - currently 10240. Windows offers a fast ring update setting for insiders that allows you to try what are in a sense Beta versions of Windows - new features etc. But Microsoft hasn't released all the necessary details to make Eset compatible. The fast ring updates should really only be used by professionals and for testing purposes.

  5. I'm very disappointed that nod 32 AV does not seem to be able to catch up with MS new product update policy, I'm also testing another AV: no hicups on W10 "final"

The whole point of these releases from Microsoft though is for developers. It's like Chrome - they have stable, beta and developer - developer version being very unstable and certainly not reliable.

It's the same with updates in the fast ring with Windows 10 - It's for the pros. If you're using this product and expecting everything to work then the fast ring is more than likely not for you. Some products may still work, but doesn't mean they'd work in the next update. It may also have issues under the hood that you won't notice but could potentially put you at risk.

Basically if you want stability stick with the public versions

  6. I guess Eset uses a different model than 2 other competitive products I use/test. Through all the previous W10 updates upto release there were no major issues, and from release to 10525 I have no issues with current protection provider, it just continued to work as it did before the update. With these type of releases looking to become the norm (MS updating/patching as/when/frequent) the way Eset works currently seems to cause a lot of issues for customers and workload for your devs.

It's a risk that you have to take when installing unfinished versions.

  7.

    Thank you peteyt.

Safe mode -> ESET Uninstaller -> and then install again, and now everything works...

No go for me, infact is broke even more. :S I sent you my config @Marcos

Are you using Windows 10? And if so if it the final release aka RTM version

Yep, Windows 10. Its the EDU version (enterprise without long term servicing branch).

Is it maybe related to the fact your on the EDU version? Might be different to the general version

Well, I, for one, am glad to see that this issue is receiving the attention it deserves.

Perhaps someone at ESET will grasp my use of irony and sarcasm...?

This is pretty ridiculous.  These are major problems and the pace and volume of responses to these issues is pitiful.

I have, individually, been a user of ESET products for many years and have brought almost all of my family and friends to use ESET's products.

As an IT professional, I have migrated multiple companies to ESET's products over those years which has certainly had a positive impact on ESET's revenues.

Not to say that ESET would go bankrupt without my business, but the way this "beta" (should probably still be in alpha) program is being run is extremely disappointing and undermines the confidence that I have had in ESET's products.

This forum is like an echo chamber and I sense that many of those who have been truly trying to test and report have lost interest due to the lack of response and updates that resolve the issues which have been reported.

This can't possibly be the intent.  Is the case that the ESET moderators in this forum simply have their hands tied by their employer that refuses to address the problems?  Or is it that the moderators aren't sharing the problem reports with their employer so that the development team can attempt to address the problems?

I'm frustrated and confused by the overall execution of this beta program.  I have already been forced to use another company's firewall program because there have been no solutions provided and there had been no indication when or if a solution may be provided.

Windows 10 RTM has been out for nearly a month and ESET still has no working product.  Is management not concerned with the threat to market-share that this creates?

Meanwhile, I keep wasting my own personal time checking back on a regular basis only to find that nothing has been done and no relavant information has been given.

If I this situation doesn't change very soon, I'm moving on and not looking back.  Historically, ESET has provided a good product which is why I have been such a staunch supporter but troubles like this indicate mismanagement that likely could effect the quality of the product delivered for a long time to come.

If I have misunderstood something, feel free to inform me.

If you like Eset then why not just use the current stable version. Beta's are always going to be buggy and maybe some of the issues haven't been addressed yet but from my experience Eset has never released a new version till it's ready

  8. I had the same issue with the final RTM release of Windows 10 but fixed the problem.

With Eset installed - Uninstall with Eset's Uninstall tool hxxp://download.eset.com/special/ESETUninstaller.exe  You will need to go into safe mode to use the tool.

Then download the latest beta and it should work. I presume using the general windows uninstaller is leaving some old files that are incompatible.

  9. Hi, guys, just to say a thing or two about ESS9. So, I've installed it on my antique machine - OS - Windows XP, 1.6gb, 1gb RAM, Intel Atom the other day.

Firstly, the good. ESET's got a GUI that it deserved. Cheers! Excellent work! Readible menus and easy to navigate GUI for the everyday Joe (like me). You could have made a terrible, terrible thing. I don't want to mention the names of some your competitors and the awful things they've done with their apps, but I'm sure, you know what I mean. Or you could have left it untouched. Well, it wouldn't be disaster, but this GUI is better for me. More mature, if I could say so. It would be... little childish wish, but have you considered the option to choose colour or somethyng like that, besides the white?

Some small issues. Firstly, in comparison with v.7 (the one I used more recently) the RAM has grown slightly - I mean for the ekrn. Secondly, I find little lagging when interacting with Windows Explorer, e.g. opening media from within a player - for about 10 to 20 or 30 seconds. Thirdly, turning off the protection (when I play games) - the file antivirus and the internet protection - and then turning it on back through the context menu or through the start window (not through "setup"), the internet shield stays inactive and the icon in the systray doesnt inform me about that (means that I'm unprotected to internet threats and don't know it), so I have to go to the Setup section and turn it on manually. !But this is an issue I had noticed since v.6. There are some trouble with Firefox I think too, but I couldnt define it correctly. It freezes.

I dont know if my feedback is of any value, since I'm running the application on the antiquated XP.

Greetings! Keep up the good work, and may the Force be with you! :)

When you say turn everything off are you turning it off or using the game mode?

  10. GUI has always taken up about 1/4 of my screen. And I usually extend it to the entire screen, especially when checking logs :)

Loving the new version, very fresh looking and a great change, but why does the main window have to be so big and not re-sizeable ? On my 24" monitor at 1920x1200 the window takes up 1/4 of my screen!

    Surfer1000,

How often do you open ESET program main screen?

Because of my job, I have it open every day all the time, and have no problem with it's size. When I'm checking something usually it's full screen.

On my home computers, I don't open it at all (maybe if there is some threat, or when it's time to renew license ) - and again have no problem with it's size.

And, all this time I'm using it, and also in communication with people who have ESET products on their computers, there was no one complaining about it's size on screen, regardles of version of their products...

The size is also an issue for me but maybe slightly different.

At the end of a scan the results are hard to read because you can't resize the screen so if the file found is a long filename it's hard to see the full details. Same issue in quarantine.

I've took a screenshot to enphase this. As you can see there is no easy way without constantly adjusting the sliders to see all the information. This is even harder to do with the small results window at the end of a scan

  11.

One thing that I'd love is an option to always ignore (create an exception) in antivirus scan results.

Basically when you finish a scan you have the option to delete/add to quarantine, to clean if possible and also to ignore. The ignore option is just ignore once, it would be nice if you could add the file into your exceptions within the scan results rather than having to go into the exception area and add it in manually, as some people might not be sure how to do this. It would make things a lot easier/quicker.

This has always been possible but only for potentially unwanted and unsafe applications for safety reasons.

How do you do this? I have scanned a file Unlocker.exe which is a handy program that can unlock files being used allowing you to then remove, move, rename etc. The file gives you an option to install extra stuff so it can be classed as unwanted.

However in the results section at the end I only see clean, delete and no action. Clean deletes it and no action only ignores it for one instance.

Should I be seeing an option to add to exceptions from that scan result window? If not would you consider adding one - You could even have it to need a password to authorise it, to avoid anyone accidentally ignoring an actual virus.

  12. I only beleieve in what I can touch and see ! why do Norton, Bitdefender, F-Secure etc. work perfectly fine with TP 10130 ? I assume they don't receive privileged infos :(

There is always a risk of issues when using a non stable version of Windows and it's recommended that the general public stick with stable. Eset might not want to make it compatible with the newer version in case they then update it again and eset need to fix it again. It's sometimes easier to wait till the final version

  13. You should be able to open the results in a new window that can be resized.

I can do this with the actual results itself but the bit that asks you what actions to take doesn't seem to let me resize it. If you have long file names and lots of results this becomes tricky

Even quarantine has the same issue but not as bad - As you can see with large filenames things become a pain to read. It would be good if you could resize all of eset's windows

  14. Some bacgroud:  I consider myself advanced user and IT tech and I have been using Windows OS for many years. In the past I was using ESET products, we even reselled them for a while.

Now for several years I use Linux and I continue working for the IT industry - I even support for other vendor [uS company] but the vendor I have to support because I work for it - I don't like their AV security products products - I am honest.

I switched to Linux because of I am tired of the Microsoft industry and all these malware and the AV products.

Until recently - for Windows users (both business and home) I liked Kaspersky and ESET products only.

A friend of mine was using AVIRA and MSE previously and got infected by Necurs trojan rootkit some months ago.

I started evaluating several products, finished to Kaspersky and ESET and due to the interface and speed, I was about to choose ESET (trial version of NOD32 v8 expires soon).

However, when I learnt about the new ESET 9 - this totally changed my mind.

    Now reallity:

You, ESET, really suck ! Isn't there anybody who could tell you (internally) that you have the power to be light and effective because of where you started. Remember the lightness and effectiveness of NOD32 v2, v2.5 , v2.7 - even v3 and v4 ?

But you chose the commerical way - now you began releasing new versions every year and you totally changed the GUI of both home and business products. It sucks! It looks awful - it looks Metro like, ugly, big, things are not where they should be. The GUI options are way too much, it is slower than it used to be. Why did you have to break something that works ?

If it works, don't fix it !  I am not it did not work for you!

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:If_it_ain%27t_broke,_don%27t_fix_it

What ESET was several years ago - ESET and NOD were sign of lightness, high quality, professionalism.

Now ESET turned their products into J*U*N*K. Complete, big junk just like other big companies such as McCrappy, Symantec

Eset has always been about  lightweight programs and you'll notice that they don't tend to copy what others do - a lot of security suites add toolbars, extra stuff like cleaning unwanted files etc. These other companies have tried to turn their products into much more than security suites but have often in turn made their programs very bloated.

One problem I have noticed with Eset though is the product hasn't been the sleekest design out there. I actually don't mind their previous design, it was very simple but it worked. The problem is though a lot of people are used to more graphic designs and might find Eset's old design a little off putting, possibly even complicated.

Version 9 doesn't seem to slow my computer down although I have a generally new computer, an i7 with 7gb of RAM. What version 9 seems to do for me is take the speed of previous versions but with a design that is easier to use for people without a lot of computer knowledge. I love the fact that it includes a Firewall Troubleshooter Wizard that will further help people without much knowledge who wouldn't know where to look to allow a program access and would probably end up turning their firewall off to check if Eset is the issue

  15. I use FileHippo and other sites that use Disqus embedded into the site for comments and noticed an issue.

For some reason Disqus wasn't working when trying to the load it via FileHippo.com which has it embedded. The Disqus website itself was working.

I figured out eventually this was because it was set to ask in the advanced settings of the Banking and Payment area but Eset wasn't asking me anything with Disqus trying to load but unable to load. Turning it on to just use the normal browser allowed it to work as normal.

Not sure how it got in that area in the first place considering it isn't a bank or payment site.

  17. The firewall has rules so it does make sense here I can't imagine what exactly would it do with real-time protection for example.

    P.R.

May I also suggest having the option to run the troubleshoot wizard in the right click menu when right clicking on the Eset tray icon and possibly even on the home area.

It took me a while to figure out where the troubleshooter was and people with not a lot of knowledge would benefit from having it displayed straight away.

  18. Hello,

component based installation is an option for ESET Endpoint Security (the suite for business users), for home users it can cause more trouble than good in my opinion.

If you have the feature not integrated it does not cost you anything except of few KBs (possibly MBs) of storage and you can enable the features when needed.

    P.R.

Yeah one issue with doing this would be cost as I presume more features could mean a higher price which would be a problem for those not using specific features. I gathered it would be complicated to implement to.

  19. One big problem I've noticed with many security suites is that many seem to be getting too bloated as they try to do too much. One thing I have noticed is Eset has always been about quality rather than quantity, but sadly some people want as many features as possible. However I have an idea that if it could work could please everyone or at least most.

Generally a security suite comes with everything. Take Eset Smart Security - It comes with parental controls, although they can be disabled. Instead of disabling things what if the suite used some kind of module system so that when installing the suite users could pick and choose what modules to instal. For example people could choose not to instal the parental controls and could if need be instal it later if they change their mind. What this means is you could include features that some might not want but others would, without it affecting the people who don't want them, creating the first truly custom security suite.

I gather this would probably be too complicated to do but just wondered what people thought.
