Simple answer is in case of bad upgrades pushed out by devs that then go on to cause great damage to the user's system.  Could be a minor incompatibility with another security program, or it could be a major flaw that quality control did not catch and hundreds if not thousands of users are left with hosed operating systems..

I think that is why they are slow to release the update via the in product update method. Usually it can take a bit for the update to be available in product just for that reason - to avoid everyone updating at once and then bugs being discovered too late.

11 doesn't have ess which I have now. Also I should have said that the downloads says waiting for virus scan and stops at 99.99%.

Eset smart security is now called eset internet security. In the past eset had both but as for version 11 smart security has been replaced with internet security.

Internet security contains everything smart security contained and your smart security license will work with internet security. Also don't forget eset license via product rather than version so as long as your license is active you can always update at no extra costs. It's always recommended to stay on the latest version as it usually contains many improvements and fixes

V11 like 10.1.235 is slow to boot compare at v 10.1.219

I think this is intentional. As posted by @Marcos in another post:

"Ekrn is started as soon as possible, among the first services. It's the crucial process responsible for protecting your system. As of v11, egui is loaded by the operating system when the resource load is lower. This change was needed in order to comply with Microsoft's conditions in terms of performance on startup and in order to receive certification."

I am running Internet security 11.0.144.0.  I keep getting told by ESET that my system requires updates - some 25 in all.  I run Windows Update and it tell me that my system is up to date.  Most of these updates show as recommended and relate to Intel Chipset updates.  I run the Intel Driver and Support assistant.  It finds nothing that needs updating.  What is ESET seeing that nothing else seems to?  Am I missing something somewhere?

If you hit f5 and go to tools there is a bit for microsoft update - you can disable it or choose the importance of update. I had a few and the only way I could get them to go without changing the setting is to go into device manager and search each device for updates.

The real question is if this is a security vulnerability? As Eset documentation notes, LiveGrid needs to be enabled for ransomware protection. Lets say ransomware is triggered to run via Win startup; registry run key, startup directory, etc.. If LiveGrid is not being enabled by Eset kernel at boot time, ransomware could run w/o being subjected to LiveGrid rep validation.

LiveGrid is reliant on the internet right? If ransomware protection needs this to work could ransomware try and disable the internet connection as a workaround?

Well, I upgraded to Eset Internet Security 10.1.235.0 from 10.1.219.0 again, and the really slow startup is still a problem. Not as slow as previously mentioned above, but pretty close to the same. Windows stays at the login screen for an unusual amount of time, and after the desktop finally appears the tray icons take forever to load. It's like Eset is holding all the other tray icons up from loading also.

I'm extremely busy with school so I have very little time to trouble shoot anything. To top it off I am having problems with Eset's Firewall blocking content silently as reported here.

    hxxps://forum.eset.com/topic/13550-eset-internet-security-1012350-firewall-bug/

Maybe you could look into both problems at once. How do I proceed to collect logs (where do I download the latest log collector), and where do I send the logs to?

    Thank You,

    Mike

I don't know if it is relevant but version 11 is now out. Have you tried to see how this works with your system?

Recently I purchased a license to ESET Internet Security for 2 devices.

I have it installed & activated on a Windows box & a Linux box, as well as an Android device. I'm planning to add a second Android device.

It appears that an Android installation is included with each device, which in my case are 2- the Windows & Linux machines.

Since I have 2 devices allowed, but only 1 Android installation, is it safe to assume I won't need to buy anything additional & that another Android install will be covered by my current license?

As you have not got a reply and I'm not sure myself it might be better going to the contact page on esets site and emailing them

I have also seen a few comments that this vulnerability only applies to routers installed in a "client" configuration. That is the router is set to run in bridge or repeater mode. All home routers are set by default to run in "server" mode and have to be manually reconfigured to run in either of the prior "client" modes mentioned.

Would esets router scan be able to identify routers vulnerable alongside settings?

It is not about "the last version" , which is always supposed to, miraculously , solve all problems; is about consistency.

I had v8, v9, v10 , all noticeable slow on 3 pc's , so I gave up. Who can deal with a slow version, expecting that one day v.10.123.456.01 will fix the problem????

Have you sent any logs? If you download the latest version and find it's slow then send in logs and they will investigate. There are lots of issues that can effect security products and sometimes specific software combinations can cause issues but without seeing your logs for this specific issue they cannot look into it

I do not know, was the latest 10 a month ago when I tried it again.

If you go to eset and download the latest version and then go to the update area you will see the the version number. If still slow generate some logs for Eset - You will see how to in Marcos's signature. This is always the best thing to do - if you experience an issue by doing this procedure Eset can look into it and try and identify the issue. Sadly if people don't give feedback or share logs they may not know the issue exists.

That's not necessary.  Chrome Cleanup will not prevent anything from installation on user machine, as we don't include any system monitoring components in Chrome. Instead, the system will be scanned once a week and in case any of specific PUA families that violate Google policies are detected, they will be removed. However, this logic is on Google side and they can change it any time.

The technology included in Chrome Cleanup is based on signature matching, emulation and unpacking of protected files. LiveGrid is not used and no data is submitted to ESET whatsoever.

I presume anything removed will be added again if sync is enabled across multiple devices like people have seen with JS/Mindspark.E

Not sure I want (or need) a replacement for CCleaner, but someone mentioned Glary Disk Cleaner.

Does anyone have any thoughts or opinions about Glary?

I do have Glary but don't really use it. It does seem to have a lot of options/tools though. I used to use TuneUp Utilities years ago but it became bloated and hard to disable, preferring to run into the background. Eventually it got bought out by AVG

    Dear All,

Please explain to me, what the meaning of ESET Protection Statistic as per attached screen shot, in the statistic protection there are 5 Number of Infected Objects & 2 Number of Clean Objects, whether 3 infected objects not yet resolved ?

    Awaiting the information & advise.

    Thanks & B/regards,

Not sure but could the others be in quarantine? Maybe they were deleted rather than just cleaned

Server is community.d49.org.  The certificate hyperlink says the cert.  is issued by Go Daddy Secure Certificate Authority - G2, to *.d49.org, and it was valid from 3/11/2016 to 11/23/2016.  The Certificate information says "This certificate has expired or is not yet valid.   Here is a screen shot of the message.  Regardless of whether I hit Block or Allow, the eset popup won't go away, as it has done with other similar untrusted certificate popups in the past.

Firstly have you tried ticking the remember bit as by default it is set to ask every time which would explain why it is constantly asking you.

However it seems the certificate has expired quite some time ago so I probably wouldn't recommend doing this. I'm not that knowledgeable in this area but persume there is risks with this possibly things like man-in-the-middle attacks.
