  1. Looking at my scan logs, the "Initial scan" after installation looks to be equivalent to a "smart scan" as far as the items scanned count. For my PC that is about 240,000 (or so) "items". I have full "in-depth" scans (no smart optimization enabled) scheduled which yield a scan count of about 2.2M "items". So it appears the safest way to go is with a regular "in-depth" full scan that is regularly scheduled.

Especially if you are doing "testing".

    Hello,

I noticed that when I start my pc the firewall is not initially activated, after startup it takes a good 2 minutes before it is activated, is this normal?

    Mike

Welcome to "The Forum" Mike...glad you are here:). Might I ask what OS and ESET product you are using? I use EIS and Win 7x64 and I have/had the same situation (for quite sometime now)...takes about 1.5-2 minutes for Win Security Center to fully realize ESET is on board and functioning. What I have done is to adjust my Network settings to NOT automatically connect. After I see everything is registered properly (via Action Center>Security) , I then manually connect. Not a big deal for me:rolleyes:. This also allows me to be disconnected (from the Net) when I choose to.

Is that the way it should be? I'm not sure:unsure:, but (again) it's not a big deal for me;).

    Best regards.

  3. Is your new license for ESET Smart Security Premium (ESSP) or for ESET Internet Security (EIS)? The ESET password manager is only included in ESSP.

Also, if you are using ESSP and Firefox, your issue might be related to https://forum.eset.com/topic/16697-eset-passwordmanager-dont-work-with-firefox-62/

If you need ESET Egypt Support to change your license see https://www.eset.com/me/

Can i run ZoneAlarm's antiransomeware with EIS?

Why would you want to? I am not familiar with "ZoneAlarm's antiransomeware ", but just looking at their website I'm not that impressed. But hey. if you can burn $2/Mo or $20/year, go for it. And while they say it's fully compatible with "ALL"  A/Vs, don't be surprised when a conflict arises. As far as the technical stuff, I'll leave that to the Mods to respond.

Well, what do you need this function for?

Maybe because s/he wants it. That's good enough for me:). It's really no one else's concern.

Besides galaxy, I thought you changed again to another AV program " I'm also back to my old AV"  Posted Monday 9.3.18 at 08:24 AM https://forum.eset.com/topic/16600-eset-banking-and-payment-protection-site-not-secure/?tab=comments#comment-82245

    I don´t ! I´m just saying, it raises question.

I have never had a Facebook, Google or Twitter account in my entire life ! All for the sake of ´convenience´ ?? I just associate those ´platforms´ with invasions of privacy.

I do not work for ESET, but I am sure ESET's Leadership/Management decided to make it easier for (silly) folks who use social media to access their website.

I think it's called business and accessibility.

I, as well, have never had a social media account and never intend to (because for me they are useless and a security risk). So I do not criticize what I do not know/understand.

So, if you have concerns, please spell it out so we can all understand.

Just because you and I are not using something that others use, does not make them bad or wrong.

  7. Hello Michael O' and welcome to the forum. As Marcos said, if you have a solo NOD32 license, it's just for one PC. Here's the link to the US ESET Android site that should help you https://www.eset.com/us/home/mobile-security-android/

You could also consider a multi device license...see https://store.esetme.com/home/

Should you wish to change your existing license to another type, I think ESET US sales should be able to help...of course being a holiday today (in the USA & Canada), I am sure they are closed.

Call: +1 (844) 824-3738 in San Diego, CA USA; press 2 for questions about ESET products or assistance with credit card payments. Available Monday-Friday, 6:00am - 5:00pm Pacific Time [GMT-8]

    Best Regards.

  8. Camelia, you may want to review the BPP use via this KB. While it does not get into the technical aspects of BPP, it's a good review. I do not know if BPP uses it's own sandbox, so Azure Phoenix may have a leg up on me.;)

One thing I do know is that it works well with my PW manager LastPass v4.1.48 which is a Godsend for me.

Have an idea of what's going on. @Marcos, correct me if I am wrong.

I believe Eset works similar to most other AV products in that after a signature definition update occurs, a Smart scan would be run. This Is SOP and done since a new signature could detect existing resident malware. The first thing Eset does at system startup assuming a measurable time lapse has occurred is to update it's signatures. As such, a Smart scan would be run afterwards.

From what I can determine, there is no way a user can alert this behavior if this is what the OP is observing.

I believe you are referring to a system start file check after an update (which is a default scan in the scheduler). I do not think that is what the OP is referring to. If it is a full scan (according to your guess), there would be more reports of unwanted scans assuming your guess is correct...I also understand what a start up scan is (it's not really a "smart scan" (although smart optimization may be enabled))...it's basically invisible to the user and that is NOT what the OP is reporting. I think the OP needs to follow Marcos's lead...I also think there may be more to it than we already know.

The problem has actually been solved, i have figured that eset INTERNET SECURITY is not eset NOD32 Antivirus, they are different and i cannot activate one with the key of another, a relative of mine had the same exact problem to prove this so i decided to buy an eset INTERNET SECURITY full licence which will comply with my renewal key.

Hello Grey C. and welcome to the forum. Glad to hear you figured it out.

The easiest way to look at it is through a cost perspective. A less expensive license (such as NOD32) will only allow you to change to another similarly priced item (such as another NOD32). Where as an ESSP license will allow you to run ESSP, EIS or NOD32 (only one at a time of course). A EIS (or NOD32) license will not allow you to upgrade to ESSP. To do that you would need a contact (sales $) with ESET or your local reseller/distributor.

    Best regards.

    Hello,

Could you please provide me more information about how profiles works and some examples?

Hello camelia. Review these KBs. They should give you more information about profiles. They reference ESSP, but as far as I know it should be the same in EIS.

  12. Hello govind. Are you referring to using ESET's Multi-Device Security?

If so, I do not believe that ESSP is part of that package. See https://www.eset.com/int/home/multi-device-security/

I am not sure if ESET has their own India office or if they use a reseller/distributor (such as Indiamart).

Assuming that you are referring to using ESET Multi-Device and assuming that ESSP is NOT included in the Multi-Device package, a 3rd party PW Manager working with ESET Multi-Device might be the solution you are looking for.

There are many to choose from. I use LastPass Ver 4.1.48 which works flawlessly with EIS BPP (there are newer LP versions available which I have not yet tested with EIS BPP).

2FA is also readily available with LastPass (which I would encourage you to use).

Here's a article from HTG about PW Managers. https://www.howtogeek.com/141500/why-you-should-use-a-password-manager-and-how-to-get-started/

  13. I would open a ticket with MBAM support and have them verify it is indeed a FP.

As far as running MBAM Prem with ESET at the same time, in my experience, they will clash. Ever since MBAM went to v3, MBAM and ESET do not play well together.

    Best regards.

Please post a screen shot. Isn't the scan called Initial scan? It's run automatically after installation but it can be stopped and it won't run again next time. Please provide me with logs collected with ESET Log Collector so that I can check what tasks you have in Scheduler.

If the issue is still occurring, I would recommend following Marcos's instructions. If the ELC log is too large to send to him in a PM, upload it to a cloud service (such as OneDrive...etc) and PM him the link. To send him a PM, just hover over his name and then select "Message".

    Best Regards.
