  1. 1. Version "7.0.307"? You mean 7.0.317, don't you?

If version 7.0.317 they had only fixed some bugs (= issues). They of course can be a security risk in some special cases if you use an "unfixed" version (e.g. if the Antispam module crashes and you aren't any more protected).

But the protection features are the same and also both versions get the same VSD updates.

So it's good to use the new version but it also isn't a large security risk to use the old version.

More about the ESS v 7.0.317 (including a changelog) you can find here:

    2. These messages should be displayed. If not then it's an issue.

But in their changelogs ESET writes "Fixed: Problem with toast notifications not being displayed on Windows 8" for the new version 7.0.317.

So this issue should already be fixed!

Edit: But I found out that there is a known issue with the toast messages on windows 8. If you use "metro applications" then ESS thinks it's a game that runs in full screen mode and so it automatic activates Gamer Mode. In this Gamer Mode no messages were displayed. But you can stop the automatic detection of full screen applications and then it should work normal.

Sorry that I have to say "but" again... but you have to know that this article I linked to is quite old. There stands some issues were resolved in version  "7.0.302" and that's - we all know - the old version. So I don't know if this issue is already fixed or not.

I think someone of the ESET moderators should tell us if it's fixed or not in the latest version.

  2. At first not only your router but also your device that is connected to the router must support IPv6. But almost all newer devices support IPv6.

You of course not need additional IP-adresses (or have you a few million devices in your LAN? :)). You have to see this worldwide.

And there aren't any security risks with IPv6 generally. In ESS 7 there's currently a small issue but this will be fixed in the next major release.

  3.

And it only occurred on the tab "Computer scan". Nowhere else! I know this because I clicked on all other tabs in the first time and there wasn't any problem.

This is expected as the program gathers information about devices when "Computer scan" is activated. Since the issue also occurs with the latest version, I'd recommend creating a Process monitor log from the moment when you select "Computer scan".

Well... yes I would help you if I could, but at the moment this issue doesn't occur (since a quite long time) - like I wrote.

But as far as I can remember I haven't plugged any devices (containing files) into the computer. But I can't promise it.

And also the thing that it starts not until I activated ESS (at the first occur) is very strange...

  4. Oh, such a quick answer of you... :o

Definitely this is not a serious issue

You think so? I already said what can be badly:

And it's not good when someone can steal your ESET license (username & password) data, because then he can get updates at the expensive of you. (Especially if you have a multi-device/-user-license it could be bad.)

And I think if I go to an internet café and the next day I want to install ESET on another PC - and I want to activate it with a multi user license - and then it "says" that the license is already in use* although I know that the number of

devices I can use is not overstepped (and also not the equal) then I wouldn't say this is not a serious issue.

personally I assume that using https would cause many more issues with updates than with http plus it would make troubleshooting update issues much more difficult.

OK if it's difficult then make it like jfroot already suggested:

If you insist on using http over https, please utilize a more robust password hashing mechanism.

Just encrypt it using other methods.

    * I don't know if it really would display this. Maybe it only would stop updating.

  5. Hey,

at first thanks to all who don't give up and say again and again... that this is quite a serious issue. But you not only criticize you also bring proves! That's very good. :D

    But:

Somebody of the ESET stuff/moderators should really answer now!

What is going on? Do you ignore this topic? Do you didn't want to hear you made something wrong? Or what else?

  6. This issue also occurs in the past by me.

    It occurs two times:

    1. Directly after activating ESS (with a bought license from a trail license before). I had to restart the PC and then it works fine again. (before and after there wasn't such a problem, except of 1 time - see 2.)
I already reported this to the customer care.
    2. Some weeks/months (I don't know exactly) this issue occurred again. It freezes the GUI and I can't do something. This time I made a screenshot.

Both issues occurred on this system:

    ESS v 7.0.317.4

    Windows 7, SP 1, x64

And it only occurred on the tab "Computer scan". Nowhere else! I know this because I clicked on all other tabs before and there wasn't any problems.

  7. Your theme download is not a zip but actually tied to a png.

I was hoping to check it out. :)

Thanks for this information. I corrected the download links (and I also re-uploaded it to another file hoster).

Now you can enjoy the ESET theme. ;)

Tell me if you like it.

Yes, this is a really a nice wallpaper. Do you allow me to add this to my theme?

  8. Now I got some good ESET Wallpapers and so I created a complete Windows theme (but you can still download the single Wallpapers).
It contains 52 Wallpapers with the ESET robot or the ESET logo and a colour scheme for Windows.

So the real ESET fans can use it. ;)

    Here are some screenshots:

As I'm unable to upload the files directly in this Forum here is the download link:

    Download

Alternative download link for theme pack

    Virustotal scan

At the main download link above you can find all wallpapers (you can also download only one or two wallpapers) and the theme. Here a list what you can download:

    • ESET 52 Wallpapers.themepack - The newest theme file which contains all wallpapers.
    • ESET 40 Wallpapers.themepack - The previous theme which contains only 40 wallpapers.
    • ESET 15 Wallpapers.themepack - The oldest theme which contains only 15 wallpapers.
    • Information.txt - Some information about the files.
    • [dir] ESET Wallpaper - All single wallpapers can be downloaded here.
    • [dir] Screenshots - The screenshots you can see above.

If you want to download a file as a ZIP just right click and click on "ZIP download".

I tested it with Windows 7 and a Technical Preview of Windows 10, so it should work with Windows Vista and higher.

Edit: Links corrected and file re-uploaded, because there was a problem.

    Edit2: Added another screenshot.

Edit3: Many more pictures. Now it contains 40 wallpapers instead of 15. (but you can also download the small version); files uploaded on Mega.co.nz; added one more screenshot

    Edit4: Added virustotal scan

Edit5: Increased included pictures to 52 pictures, renamed files, added one additional preview picture, updated alternative download link and virustotal link.

Edit6: Changed text to indicate that this theme file works with Windows 7, Windows 8(.1) and newer versions of Windows; added one screenshot (showing the theme with Windows 10)

Edit7: Changed alternative download link, because the old hoster added PUA to their site, which was detected by ESET.

Edit8: Changed Mega download link to new site used.

  9. ESET send much more data as only the username and password over an internet connection.

Here is a complete report what ESET sends (although there are also many open questions): AV-Comparatives - Data transmission in Internet security products

They also say there that the internet traffic is encrypted. But here it seems not so.

And it's not good when someone can steal your ESET license (username & password) data, because then he can get updates at the expensive of you. (Especially if you have a multi-device/-user-license it could be bad.)

So it would be good to get an answer from ESET stuff or moderators. Is the data encrypted? And what data is (not) encrypted?

  10. Also a another question: Is it safe to assume that nothing is happening bad since everytim it pops up, it says QUARANTINED? :/ Thanks!!

This malicious javascript is blocked by ESET and copied into the quarantine. So a danger is no longer presented out of this file.

But if it often pops up and you really don't visit hxxp://utils.cdneurope.com then it could be more dangerous, because maybe another malware that is already installed on your system could try to connect to this JS-file.

It even comes out when I visit this ESET website.

That's interesting, because on the ESET website there is surly no redirection or embedding of the questionable website cdneurope!

Now I had to ask some more questions:

    1. Go on the ESET website and please don't open any other tabs with other websites. Now reload the website. Does this warning always come if you reload your website? Or only at the first visit or... ?
    2. What browser do you use? Test it with another browser and say if it's the same.
    3. Close all browsers and wait a bit. Does the message also come if you don't browse the web?

It also would be good if ESET could say something about it. They surly know more about this threat and about this website than me.

  11. That looks bad and of course it isn't normal.

You can try to use ESET SysRescue (without Live in the name) instead of ESET SysRescue Live.
