  1. Don't wanna turn off PUP detections it's good. Just wanted to fix this because adding exclusions means I need to add it to 3 locations, my main driver and 2 other backup drives. Since I format a lot, it's a pain so I wanted it fixed.
  2. but how is it unsafe when it's a very old tool used to view the SLIC certificate of the BIOS? For example, back in the days of Vista and when first Windows 7 was released, one had to check if his laptop's `SLIC certificate ws 2.0 or 2.1 so if it was 2.0, he would neet to update his BIOS to have SLIC 2.1 in order to do OEM activation otherwise it would feel as the SLIC certificate 2.0 ws for Vista and 2.1 for Windows 7? Also, if the big sharks like Kaspersky and Bitdefender don't detect it, doesn't that mean something?
  3. Kindly remove this as a detection. I use it since years to view what SLIC certificate is in the BIOS of a laptop. It's safe by many of the big AVs just detected as a thread by NOD32, this is probably the first FP I've seen from NOD32: https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/f94c163d21bb8c5318832fb629b0362bdef6a8327349fa1f8ae4e0234ba47230/analysis/
  4. hxxp://www.ghacks.net/2010/03/17/dvd-burning-software-imgburn-updated-turns-adware/ However I find the software itself quite good. Please don't tell me you are comparing a basic burner like ImgBurn to a full comprehensive suite like Nero Platinum, you simply cannot compare the two. Burning a music CD or a DVD with ImgBurn requires some research online and isn't intuitive at all. The reason I use NERO is, let's say I wanna burn a DVD to be played on any DVD player from the videos I have, simply drag/drop them in Nero Video and it will do all the necessary conversion to make it in a way / format that works on any DVD player. Also, it has Nero RECODE, which is the fastest and best video converter from one format to the other hands down. It's not even fair to compare them as Nero Platinum is a full fledged suite whereas ImgBurn is a poor little burner that is only good for burning basic data discs or ISO images.
  5. Well I've been using NOD32 for more than 8 years and it never bothered me about saying that I have exceeded the re-activation limit or blacklisted my license so I think that's not needed to be honest as long as the current system works and gives no headaches
  6. Yes, SweX! You're completely right. I tested it right now and yes it goes to softonic. Before it says "powered by softonic" and then it tries to download it from softonic. Additionally it reqiures an e-mail-address before that. Wow, it's just low to do it like that for some extra $$$. I put Nero on my shady business behavior list.... I used to upgrade my Nero Platinum every year paying about $100 USD, no more! It's enough that they charge an arm and a leg for their software, now they include crapware and host files on a shady site + require your email to spam you just for downloading a Demo
  7. no nothing that serious bro. but these people who have thos PUA come to me complaining, my PC is so slow, has a lot of popups and erratic behaviour. I usually clean them by uninstalling them with Geek Uninstaller then scan for their leftover files/registry remnants next, I use AdwCleaner which then finds many browser hijacks / search tools probably got them through those crapy PUAs or who knows....... next I run MBAM + SAS to get rid of anything else + tracking cookies next I install a good free AV if they don't wanna pay otherwise I recommend them to buy NOD32 which my last client agreed to install the demo of NOD32 and will buy it soon, then run a final scan
  8. Technically, you're right, it's not a virus, but the effect is similar to a virus. have you ever repaired a PC that came bombarded with PUPs like BAIDU PC Faster, SpeedUpMyPC, My PC Backup? heck, the amount of popups and difficulty in removing them is worse than removing a virus (sometimes)
  9. Thank you so much! That would be great! Also, glad this thread turned out to be useful and introduced you to the goodness of ESET. I have a license for every AV you can imagine and have tested them all extensively, yet, ESET is the only one that gave me: 1) no system quirks, as in, all my other software work fine with it without addind exceptions like my VPN software, etc, which was flagged as dangerous by other AVs 2) no system slow down 3) 0 false positives (at least in my exprience) 4) excellent detection rates, never got a virus EVER while using NOD32 since 10 years ++ speaking of PUPs, just for an eample, enable PUP detection in the advanced settings / Antivirus, then try to install uTorrent, you will notice that the options to install crapware are greatly reduced or removed altogether, it was really engineered and programmed so well.
  10. try it, go to www.nero.com enter your email to download the demo, and see the virus
  11. The software is amazing and has features not fine in any other tool Usually, you have to download a different profile backup tool for every browser. Their tool can backup any browser, even new browsers like Pale Moon and Cyberfox (with the proper mod), Google Chrome, Firefox, Opera, even uTorrent and Skype! I have successfully backup and restored Cyberfox with no issues. @Hekasoft: 2 small suggestions please 1) Please release a portable version as well rather than an installable one, much easier that way. I did copy the program files of Hekasoft manually and uninstalled Hekasoft Backup then tried to run the EXE from there, it worked, but with a small warning at first saying that English Language is not found or something, then I clicked ok and it worked fine. But a proper portable version would really be appreciated. I've even pay for your tool to be honest because it's that good. 2) Right now, I use a custom mod that allows the backup/restoration of Cyberfox browser. Can you please add it by default so its detected without any mod as you already have every browser in the planet listed might as well include this amazing new browser. Thank you =========================================================================== Back to our topic, just tried to download the demo of Nero Platinum Suite 2015 and NOD32 stopped it! Great job! I contacted Nero telling them it's a shame that I as a customer paying every year for upgrades, now they removed their FTP server downloads and ar relying on some shady website that is full of tracking and crapware to hose their files! how unprofessional from NERO! again! Great JOB ESET! No other AV I have used blocked such things!
  12. its at the default settings which is minidumps but this location is empty: C:\ProgramData\ESET\ESET NOD32 Antivirus\Diagnostics\
  13. This happened for the 2nd time at the exact same time..... To replicate the issue..... Computer = Freshly formatted / Fully Updated Windows 7 Professional x64 I ran the ESET NOD32 Live Installer which installed the latest version of v8 I then activated my product using my username / password, NOD32 performed the first virus signature update....... So I went into Tools / Scheduler and disabled the automatic startup file scan on user logon and kept the automatic startup file scan upon signature update I hit ok to SAVE, then a UAC prompt tells me if I want to continue, I click OK and BAAAM...... Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: egui.exe Application Version: 8.0.304.0 Application Timestamp: 542bf51f Fault Module Name: egui.exe Fault Module Version: 8.0.304.0 Fault Module Timestamp: 542bf51f Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 000000000013b3a6 OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: 1ade Additional Information 2: 1ade8af929e983602bd195fef20ec04b Additional Information 3: 983e Additional Information 4: 983ee02c87c7f9e30f69c7d50b7a0978 Read our privacy statement online: hxxp://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=104288&clcid=0x0409 If the online privacy statement is not available, please read our privacy statement offline: C:\Windows\system32\en-US\erofflps.txt This happened twice on 2 different formats of Windows 7, the first time I though this was a one off but here it is again..... Another GUI bug which was in NOD32 v7 and now is also in NOD32 v8....... When you first install it and hit Activate , then choose Username / Password...... I would copy / paste my username.......then go back to copy the password......when I return to NOD32, the username/field that I had just pasted the username in is gone and now it's back to the main activation screen, so I hit the second option again to activate, and this time I can see that my username was already there and I can paste my password. Not a big deal but it's kind of annoying and since it hasn't been addressed in v7, I must report this as well.
  14. Thank you for responding, unforunately I just saw your e-mail as it went straight to my junk box due to your e-mail's domain probably. I understand that it wasn't your site that was sending me that image which may or may not be a virus but the fact remains, that I got it when I visited the Hekasoft website which to me personally, I have uninstalled the tool although it was the best backup tool for browsers and other programs Additionally, if you notice in this thread on the Cyberfox forums, even the moderators there flagged the thread of Hekasoft as [DO NOT USE] so you might wanna post a message there and fix whatever it is on your website that's causing this as many users have complained as well. Thank god I had NOD32 or else I might have been infected.
  15. Yeah in my case, this virus was caught while using my favorite browser, Cyberfox:
  16. oh yes, which is even better! Unlike other products which rely on a browser extension and often the extension doesn't work as browsers get updated frequently, this method is just perfect!
  17. Not only is its HTTP Scanning good in the sense it rarely if ever gets false positives compared to other solutions I've tried, today I visited a site that has a browser backup profile tool. while the site does offer 2 versions of the tool, one with sponsored crapware and the other clean, by just visint the site you get many viruses silently thrown at you but NOD32 blocked them all : Site: DO NOT VISIT IT if you are not running NOD32: xttp://www.hekasoft.it/backup-restore.php
  18. People who judge how light or heavy an AV is based on how much RAM it uses are simply clueless and know nothing about performance. For all I care, the AV can use all the RAM it wants as long as I feel that my system is snappy. that's what matters. I know very light AVs when it comes to RAM usage but they will slow your computer down to a crawl
  19. Smart. I have to commend ESET for having such a flexble yet secure system for license monitoring. No other AV gives this easy of re-installations. I am a person who formats a lot the moment I get a glitch, I'm OCD, I don't try to fix it, instead, I format.
  20. With other AVs, you can login to your user control panel and see which PC is using the license and be able to remove it so you can like install that license on another computer. How does ESET know who is using my license? Like what if I install my license on a computer, then formatted that computer, then later installed it on another computer, but the number of active users using the license never exceeds my limitation, how would ESET know or keep track of these things? One thing I love about ESET is that it has never blacklisted my license for as many formats/reinstallations I've done whereas other companies would blacklist the key and you would have to wait until they reset the activation limit for you. I am happy, but just curious how does this great system work PS: I just upgraded my license from a 3 user to a 5 user license just to support ESET although I am currently using my license only on 1 PC
  21. I just tried a few HTTPS sites and they work just fine. This is on a freshly formatted laptop with Windows 7 SP1 x64 and NOD32 Antivirus 8.0.304.1 (x64)
  22. I wanted to test it but I can't find the download link anywhere, both the international site and my localized site (United Arab Emirates) only show v7 What's going on? Has ESET taken 8 down due to it being buggy or something?
  23. Oh ok, I just formatted my laptop actually, I'll install it and report back so we can see if it's a problem related to his PC or NOD32 v8 itself. Please give meh some time
