  1. always disable it! thats the first thing I do when I format my systsem. It's useless anyway and never catches anything but false positives. Having 2 security products on and active at the same time is only asking for trouble
  2. Surprisinglly, ESET's Smart Security 7 is amongst the worst contenders when it comes to overall system impact. Totally owned even by the well known resource hogs I felt it with every upgrade Eset does to their program, now it's simply unacceptable, but this confirms it: hxxp://www.pcsecuritylabs.net/home/m2_articleid/18/moduleid/2/
  3. you don't have to pay anything, your license will work on ANY version of NOD32
  4. I request ESET to remove the Activate product context menu after a successful activation: Activate Product still appears after product is activated This is very annoying and misleading My product IS activated and valid till December 2015 so why does this choice of activating the product still appear when I right click on the NOD32 program in the taskbar please inform ESET to fix this it's very unprofessional
  5. One time when installing NOD32, even though Windows Defender was disabled, NOD32 still told me that there is a conflicting security app. I don't know why it happened that time only but it DID happen. Anyways, this could do no harm but only better as noone needs Microsoft's
  6. Do this to avoid any conflicts with NOD32 or any other security product for that matter: For most users, simply turning off Windows Defender or disabling it via the Services Control Panel should be enough to stop it running. If for whatever reason you’re still having some sort of issue or are determined to remove Defender completely from the system, unfortunately is isn’t possible using Programs and Features or the Turn Windows features on or off window. Although there is no official way to cleanly uninstall Defender, it is possible to remove the service, Control Panel entry, other related registry entries and all the files and folders manually so Defender is unofficially removed from the system. This does present its own set of problems though as the registry keys, files and folders are all protected with enhanced permissions and you have to take ownership of them all. Also, once removed, you can’t re-install Defender again because it isn’t a separate package. As there seems to be no tool around to do it for you, we’ve decided to create our own little utility that can delete all the necessary protected registry keys, files and folders at the click of a button. Currently the program works great on Windows Vista and 7′s Defender, we may include full Windows 8 Defender support in future if people request it. Simply download the portable Windows Defender Uninstaller and run it, then click the button to uninstall Defender. The lower pane will show what’s being deleted and if there are any errors. For best results, it’s best to disable Defender beforehand using one of the methods above. Please use this tool at your own risk as once Defender has been removed, it cannot easily be re-installed, make sure you have backups to hand in case you change your mind later on.

  8. All I can say is I now installed Norton Antivirus 2014 and my internet downloads are faster, the fily copy from my SSD to my USB External HDD is faster, the whole system seems more responsive
  9. ahh I see! that explains why you have no issues and I had issues upon installing NOD32
  10. Just formatted another time and Installed Windows 7 Pro x64 I copied the hosts file of MVPS before hand then created an image of my disk using Macrium Reflect As soon as I installed NOD32....the hosts file was deleted!!!! WTF! MVPS has been out there for many years and known to be a legitamate / good hosts file for extra protection from ads / malware sites:
  11. happened again with a new Win 8.1 Pro installation I copied that hosts file to the System32\drivers\etc then after a while, I noticed that the file disappeared from that folder and I have no hosts file!!!!
  12. I am sick of the crappy performance and bugs in NOD32 v7 Ever NOD32 version is worse than the one next What is the olderst version I can install that will work on Windows 7 x64 and still give me protection? ( I don't care about HIPS) Also, how can I disable the auto program update I just want definition updates
  13. yes! I understand false positives in any AV but a hosts file as a false positive?? this is BS! and it didn't even pop up anything, it simply removed the file so I was running with no hosts file for days until I noticed that I am getting ads in IE which I rarely use since Pale Moon is my main browser then I checked the hosts file3 and it wasn't there and so was the entire MVPS hosts file folder add to that the slow and buddy NOD32 v7,. and you get an excellent crappy AV
  14. WTF, I've been using the MVPS hosts file for years now suddenly it's being detected as a virus! really?!?! a simple text file ?!? hxxp://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.zip
  15. I noticed this too, this NOD32 7.0.302.26 is the buggiest NOD32 I have ever used since v2 I hope ESET releases an update ASAP
  16. I can't actually, you may be right so what are your comments on those bad benchmark results in the file I linked? it wasn't just one test, ESET was in like the 2nd category in every single test, fily copying, file downloading, etc.
  17. With every new version, NOD32 becomes heavier and heavier. Proof: hxxp://www.av-comparatives.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/avc_per_201311_en.pdf Eset doing very bad, beat by Kaspersky, which is known to be heavy, Bitdefender, and even Symantec products. It also seems to have adverse effects on download speeds according to theb enchmarks above. I hope that this thread and be read by the management to re-focus on what Eset once was, the lightest AV yet one of the most powerful
  18. thanks, ur right, it didn't slow down the site had a problem
  19. Did you do a clean install on a clean Windows which did not have any AV installed before or was it by simply uninstalling the previous one and installing v7? Problems like these often happen when there are old traces of the previous AV Secondly, ensure that: 1) Windows Defender is disabled 2) Download a program called Autoruns, then run it as Administrator, then look at the start up items, you will find 2 entries pertaining to Windows Defender, make sure you untick them then restart Check this image: hxxp://i40.tinypic.com/2vw5y8g.png
  20. oh no it wasn't from a website, a friend of mine who works at Microsoft uploaded the Win 8.1 GA final ISO US version to a chinese site called Baidu hxxp://pan.baidu.com/s/145FYD if it wasn't from her, I would've thought that's a scam site, but it's real, you register an account, then you download their "Downloader Program", login to the account in the program, and start the download, when NOD32 was on the download was very slow @ 50 KB/S when it's off it's superfast @ 1.2 MB/S hxxp://i39.tinypic.com/34hc505.png
  21. I am downloading a shared file using a chinese program called Baidu, it is the Windows 8.1 English-US untouched ISO (3 GB) but it downloads at 50 KB/S only I temporarily disabled NOD32 and the speed went up immediately to 1.2 MB/S what gives?
  22. Me too, and my computer feels sluggish This is a clean Windows 8.1 Final x64 installation BTW this is very weird the Beta never had these slowdowns
  23. I formatted my laptop and installed this since I am a perfectionist and want a 100% bug free operation
  24. Posted 1 min exactly before you https://forum.eset.com/topic/1142-eset-smart-security-v70302-final/ I used to refresh the main page over 30 times daily and finally got the update
