Disabling which of the protection modules makes the issue go away? Does disabling Advanced memory scanner make a difference?
-
Oh,I forgot an annoying issue when scanning in the option open scan a the new window-the scan log moves-I have to pause scanning or hold my mouse to stop it from moving and see what I need. I would really like it if ESET would fix this
To me it behaves as supposed. As long as scrolling log is enabled, the log will scroll automatically. If you need to move through the log during a scan, disable scrolling.

ESET only notifies about missing updates. The notification merely provides a link that opens Windows Update in Internet Explorer. Use WSUS to manage and distribute Windows Updates to clients in a corporate environment.
-
It won't update the virus signature database, just stays on update progress 0/0
Try to update again. A larger update has been released due to changes in existing signatures so update servers may be overloaded at times. However, I've tried updating from different servers and update was downloaded at the first attempt fine.

After installation, you should be offered an option to activate the beta version.

It'd be best to talk to a customer care representative. If the MS Exchange server is actually working in the Edge transport role, I'd suggest the following:
- untick the Start transport agent box under Server protection -> Microsoft Exchange server and confirm the setting by clicking OK
- under Tools -> Log files, set the Minimum logging verbosity to Diagnostic records
- under Server protection -> Log files, enable Synchronized writing without using cache as well as Log diagnostic information
- tick the Start transport agent box under Server protection -> Microsoft Exchange server and confirm the setting by clicking OK. Wait until the tray icon stops spinning (Updating transport agent status). It takes some time for MS Exchange to register changes in the settings.
- receive some spam email
- disable diagnostic logging
We'll need the following stuff for further analysis:
- spamlog.dat, warnlog.dat, XmonCom.dat from the C:\ProgramData\ESET\ESET Mail Security\Logs folder
- SysInspector log from the Exchange server
- output of running the following commands in the Exchange Management Shell: Get-TransportPipeline, Get-TransportAgent
- information that would help us identify spam emails in the logs (if also clean emails have been received)
Under Antispam protection -> Transport Agent, there's a box Use Exchange Server whitelists to automatically bypass antispam protection. Check out if this setting could affect spam filtering in your case.

Here there
Just a quick feedback, everythings works again in Windows 8 metro.

Thank you for the positive feedback Janus

Just installed the beta with no problems and I'm currently running Smart Scan and First scan. Things seem to be unfolding without error.
I wouldn't recommend running the 2 scans at once because:
1, Smart scan scans the same files as the First-time scan
2, running more scans at once will slow down the performance, especially if files are to be read from different physical locations on the disk at a time.
-
Antispam scanning works only if MS Exchange is installed in the Edge Transport role. Also check the ESET Event log for possible errors and send us the output of running the command Get-TransportAgent in the Exchange Management Shell.

Installed v7.0.28.0 beta (64 bit) on Windows 8 Pro (64 Bit) and some of the Modern UI Apps keep crashing. The apps that crash are: the Mail/People/Messaging/Calendar app, Bing News, Bing Sports, and others. Other apps just hang and can't get internet access (News Bento).
This issue has already been fixed, just run update manually so that the latest modules are downloaded and installed. Should the problem persist, restart the computer.

I did not find the "Vulnerability shield" feature announced in the changelog, unless this refers to "social media scan" option under tools.
This feature can be configured in the IDS setup -> Intrusion detection -> SMB/RPC/RDP protocol where you can enable/detection detection of exploits for these communication protocols.

Users in a corporate environment should update from a local mirror server, ie. without a username/password provided by ESET. As a result, they shouldn't show notifications when the license is due for renewal.
-
Startup scans are very important for protecting your computer and potentially cleaning troublesome malware. Should you encounter an issue with them, it's better to contact ESET and try to find a solution instead of disabling the startup scan tasks completely.

There should be more information about the reason why maximum protection is not ensured below the message. What does it read?

I've got four hard drives. 2 by sata and 2 by eSATA.
Here's the front section of some paths (there were 27):
\Device\ShadowMount5\Documents and Settings\Freddy2\Mijn documenten\Downloads\ ........
F:\Total Uninstall\setup.exe
I'm not familiar with this type of mount path and Google didn't yield any useful results either. Will inquire our engineers about it but it seems to me non-standard.
Second problem. In the "Tools" window I see at "Quarantine", Number of quarantined objects: 1.
But there is no object in Quarantine (I restored/deleted everything) ??
That's probably because every account has it's own quarantine and gui shows total number of quarantined files in all accounts.
Third problem. When i do a manual scan of folder/file with the right mouse button and select "Scan with ESET NOD32 Antivirus", it will find a virus (it's a testing folder of me) but NOD32 don't clean it up (standard settings).
But when i select the same map through "Computer scan" > "Custom scan" it will find the same virus and put it in quarantine.
So manual scanning files/folders with the right mouse button and select "Scan with ESET NOD32 Antivirus isn't working properly.
That's because you chose to scan files without cleaning them. Cleaning is run from the Advanced options submenu by default (this was first reversed in v7 beta).
Fourth problem. When i exclude for instance N:\*.* it is not possible to scan something (file, folder, ...) in this partition manually (right mouse button ...).
With another antivirus software I've tried this was possible.
I find it useful to exclude something (for instance a partition) from automatically scanning, but if i want to scan something in this partition (like a file, folder, ...) it must be possible.
If you exclude a folder or files(s) from scanning, they will not be scanned by any of the proteciton modules, including the on-demand scanner.

There's actually an issue with Metro applications; I was able to reproduce it on my alternate home computer. Renaming the HIPS driver makes the issue go away. Will report it to the developers right away.
-
With v6 you didn't encounter this problem? If possible, try to narrow it down to the particular module by disabling protection modules, one at a time.
-
Yes, using your license on a virtual machine by the same user is in concordance with EULA.

The Beta Editions of ESET Smart Security 7 and ESET NOD32 Antivirus 7 have been released and are now available for you to download for testing purposes.
DOWNLOAD HERE
When upgrading from an existing version, we strongly recommend that you update the virus signature database and modules first. Clean installations of the programs are recommended, however.
New features:- Advanced memory scanner provides protection against obfuscated threats
- Vulnerability shield protects your computer from network threats exploiting vulnerabilities in communication protocols
- Improved cleaning of rootkits ensures that even in case of infection with persistent malware, the system will be restored to a working malware-free state
- Device control allows for controlling access to a variety of devices and peripherals
- Automatic first time scan cleans potential malware on the computer and improves performance of future scans

In order to block https web sites, you must have scanning of SSL enabled, otherwise the address would appear encrypted to the scanner. After enabling SSL scanning, you shouldn't get any pop-ups as long as automatic mode ("Always scan SSL protocol") is selected.

How to send you files? I prepare everything what you ask me.
Best Regards.
I assume you prepared the files yesterday when you were able to reproduce the FP, right? Then you can upload the package to our ftp server as per the instructions I sent you yesterday (check your private messages by clicking the envelope in the right-hand upper corner of the forum).
Anyways, I assumed the detection can be reproduced at any time when a scheduled disk scan with operating memory selected among targets is run which doesn't seem to be the case (as you couldn't reproduce it today any more). Please try to find out the common pattern when the FP is detected as this is very important information for us.
-
First of all, we'd need you to reliably reproduce the detection. Do you know if something has changed between when the FP was detected during a scheduled scan and the last scan when nothing was detected? (e.g. the computer was restarted in the mean time, a specific application was running when the FP was detected, etc.). Try to run scheduled scans from time to time and try to find a common pattern when the detection is triggered.

Is ESET doing a full scan on startup, or a quick scan? The first scan ESET ran on my Windows 7 laptop, which ESET started without my input after I initially installed it, did take 1 1/2 hours. When I restarted, the scan started up and I didn't let it complete. I'll try re-enabling the startup scan and I'll see how long it does take. I don't recall ever having had security software that does a scan on startup before this.
Discussion on this topic was moved here.

Only a quick scan is run when the operating system starts and it's the only scan that is run by default. Normally it shouldn't take more than a few seconds for the scan to finish.
You've mentioned that you didn't let the scan complete. However, startup scans are run silently in the background and there's no way to stop them. That said, I assume you stopped a scheduled disk scan instead of a startup scans.
A wish to beta 7 !

Please read the descriptive text above. You can make multiple selection and select the desired action at once. It's actually worked this way since v4.2 if I remember correctly.
