itman 1,752
Quote ESET Smart Security takes third place. It was compromised more often than Kaspersky’s product but detected more of the threats. It scores just ahead of two of the free products in this test, those from Avast and Avira. The other free products scored more humbly in this test. https://selabs.uk/download/consumers/oct-dec-2017-consumer.pdf Eset scored 3rd place but overall, it was 5th since 3 vendors tied for second place. Of note is SE Labs altered their methodology for this test and included custom built targeted attacks in the test set. As noted in the test report, AV vendor product performance overall against targeted attacks was a bit disturbing. As SE Labs states in the report, their targeted attacks were rather rudimentary and nowhere the level employed by sophisticated threat actors.
