He's complaining about Eset causing problems on a Win 10 preview build. Further he's stating that somehow Eset is affected his running of his various CD/USB AV rescue disks which is rubbish. I already stated that Eset does not support Win 10 preview builds.

Yeah it seems a lot is getting lost in translation but the user seems to be using multiple security products to.

hi all, someone to disinfect and debug the 3RD party bootable usb rescue disks ( comodo rescue discs, cyberlink power2Go,  comodo/ad-aware rescue disks, , ...) ?

Still confused - your mentioning scans for adaware rescue disks but on an eset forum. Do you have eset - if your problem is with adware you would have to contact adaware as this forum is for eset products.

If your using eset, I'd recommend going to the website and finding support and opening a ticket as they probably would be better able to assist you - I presume support may be available in your native language to, as I belive some stuff are getting lost in translation

    Dear All,

A customer File server was infiltrated with files in local drive E was hidden and folder replication with different directories

When we use ESET to perform on demand scan, we were unable to stop the folder replication, but the client said other AVs like

Malwarebytes and Windows defender was able to detect AutoIT malware before we quarantine it with ESET, we need analysis on Root Cause Analysis as demanded by the customer and how to stop the re-occurring infiltration and guide for future reference

Please see retrieved log  (ASANKO_GOLD_LOG 28.02.2020 ) on ESET FTP support folder

    Anticipating your kind response

    Regards

While possibly unrelated someone else was posting about auto.it the other day although they wanted to exclude it. If I'm correct it is classed as a PUA. Do you have PUA detection enabled?

In FireFox, I do the following in Eset B&PP after logging off from my banking web site:

    1. Open FireFox settings.

    2. Select Options.

    3. Select Privacy & Security.

    4. Scroll down to Cookies and Site Data.

    5. Click on the Clear Data tab.

At this point you can select to clear Cookies and Site Data and/or Cached Web Content. Then shut down the FireFox session opened in Eset B&PP.

Technically speaking if you're using FireFox in private browsing mode, it's supposed to clear all the above at FireFox close time. The problem is Eset's B&PP opens Firefox in normal mode w/extensions disabled. Hence why the above noted data is not being cleared.

Another alternative is when Eset B&PP opens FireFox, select that the Menu bar is displayed. The click on File and select New Private Window. As noted in the below screen shot, when that window is closed, all current session data will be cleared:

    Eset_BPP_Private.thumb.png.c207bddf00372147931dd73c76da613e.png

Would be maybe a handy option if eset could be set for specific browsers to launch in private mode when using BPP but not sure if it would be possible

  5. I'm slightly confused. You say you can open it from the tray icon on boot up and that is how it should work.

Also you said the ecair test file is blocked. This is what should happen. The file isn't a virus but acts like one for testing. The fact eset blocks it shows it is working.

Only thing I can think of is maybe you could try to use a screen capture program to show eset not working and that might help us identify the issue

Wow, that is strange lol.  Bugs seems to popping up more these last few months.

From what I gather it should popup for people using windows 7 because it is no longer supported by Microsoft - while eset can still protect windows 7 any security program becomes limited when an OS stops receiving patches. However there was a bug that meant if people had upgraded from windows 7 to 10, eset didn't realise and so alerted the user as it still thought they were using 7.

I have been hearing that microsoft is trying to force people to move to windows 10 since this end of life for windows 7.  I don't think that Eset will nag about this.  Infact I have been using Eset for a while and its never nagged at me for anything, and I have recommended eset personally to windows 7 users and they have said the same thing to me that they dont have this problem either.

Maybe it is malware on your PC or Microsoft up to their antics again.

no it was apparently a bug that was causing the nag

This explains a little bit more about Microsoft way of Windows : https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/microsoft-wants-to-do-away-with-windows-10-local-accounts/

And about Linux , if you are new user , the GUI will be enough for most uses and most likely it will be stable on your system (sometimes it could go crazy) , but for sure it's more stable and faster than Windows , and runs better on old PCs

It will take time to get used as for anything else in life , but once you get used for it , you will feel the difference

Atleast you won't get the Please Wait , Don't turn off your PC nightmare while having HDD not SSD

I mean what is the best distro for new users - one that uses a decent UI

There is also this https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10 , but I bet someday it will break your system because of updates from Microsoft , but if you are not into gaming , switch to Linux , you will feel better

Yeah each time Microsoft releases a new version it seems to cause issues for programs like these.

I do need to try Linux. I'm sure I have it on a USB but I've always been put off mainly because I've heard you need to often use the command prompt.

Even people who have told me you can get ones with a good GUI have told me sometimes you might need to use the command prompt

I'm wanting to get a 2 year protection plan but did it on my phone. I need it on my laptop. It's already paid for. How do I get the download to my laptop?

    Thanks

Do you mean you purchased it for a phone rather than your laptop accidentally or you purchased it for your laptop on your phone?

If you purchased the wrong product you could contact eset for either a refund or to swap although it may depend on pricing

If this is utorrent it does seem risky these days. I'd recommend using Qbittorent which is similar but no advertising

Seems like the top people in this forum are trying to push Win 10, not just MS.

I respected these members until they became sales people for win10.  Using win7 they say; it's time to upgrade, over and over. I haven't updated win7 in years never been hit by any malware.

Please, win 7 will be around along time, way after Eset stop's the support.

I like 7, it's fast, not a hundreds out-bound connections like 10, trying to gather your data.

Some people just don't care about privacy, so now there is 10.

Yes win 10 might be more secure for the average person that might visit bad sites, and open attachments, download any file. But if your somewhat smart about what not to do, you will most likely be safe. Without being looked after by big brother (MS).

I myself only upgraded to windows 7 when I lost my XP serial but ever since I've always upgraded to the new version - windows 8 had a really good cheap deal when it first came out and obviously windows 10 was free. I do feel old unsupported OS's are a bit of a risk but while I like windows 10 the privacy issues do also worry me.

I did mention in a post a while ago if it was ever something eset would do in the future - privacy controls, but the issue is their could be legal issues. I mentioned it because the people behind Spybot Search and Destroy have a program called Spybot Anti-Beacon. From what I've read the free version blocks windows telemetry but the pro version can also block telemetry for other programs to. Unsure how this works legal wise. There is also the issue that you could block too many stuff and prevent issues, e.g. issues with functionality

Much like myself i have also avoided all ms telemetry patches and the useless MRT that likes to phone home too, MS have lost the plot IMO they no longer have any respect for what personal computer means, it means i have full control of what updates i want to install  and when they are installed not some o/s interrupting me, also ms no longer is selling you an O/S it's selling you a service in win 10, at the moment for those who upgraded  it's free , but they could at some points move to a subscription model

I think what Microsoft will do is keep windows 10 free, at least the base OS and then offer subscriptions around it. I suppose they are kind of doing it now with the likes of Office 360. Basically I see in the future MS offering office, music and TV streaming, maybe other software services - the idea being instead of paying different companies e.g. netflix, spotify etc. you could get it all through Windows

    Marcos, thanks for your reply.

Its about internet security (Wich is and was stated in the topictitle*wink)

Thanks for your product and productfeatures information, but reasons to upgrade are not our issue.

I selected the "No marketing switch" that is the point of this topic, as i don't want (any) software to overrule my settings concerning advertising and certainly not my security software and ..on my desktop. How intrusive can one get it? Given time i would need an adblocker for my internal processes 😃

Had to edit my message alas.

Our IT advisor just replyed me telling me im not allowed to provide information on this forum and we should contact Eset customer support directly.

Have a good Sunday and thanks again!

This topic may be deleted, its solved.

Just a quick note. Opening a ticket is probably the best solution as it can be tracked better but if you ever need to post an attachment on the forums and are worried about privacy, only the moderators can see those attachments on here.

Hope they can get to the bottom of this for you

If your primary concern is browser privacy, you are best served using a browser that is designed for privacy such as FireFox.  "Out-of-box:" i.e. w/o adding any extensions, it offers a number of privacy protections such as:

    FireFox_Privacy.thumb.png.4c12b61a0e583409fce45ebb6cb0e446.png

Adding the uBlock Origin extension will only strengthen FireFox's native privacy protections. uBO by default uses multiple tracking protection and malware block lists with AdBlock's TPLs being one of them. I have also added Nano Defender to uBO which is an anti anti-adbocker. Web sites are increasingly using anti-adblockers to get around browser adblocking protection. Adding Nano Defender to uBO in FireFox is a "bit tricky" though.

The final FireFox extension I use is Decentraleyes which does:

Finally, note that Chrome is built for security; not privacy. Being a Google based product, I believe that is self-evident.

Thanks for the info will look into it. Used to use firefox years ago but started having problems but think it was the PC I had at the time being too old. I've user chrome ever since and I do like how it syncs with android devices. However being Google theres always the concern of what they are collecting.

I do have the new chromium based edge to but haven't really used it. I have also heard good things from Opera which even has a built in VPN

    (Eset internet security user)

    Dear friends,

just today i recieved advertising for smart security upgrading on my desktop.

Disable marketing is set in settings.

    This is a bug?

Must say im allergic for this kind of practices if they are intendend.

    have a great day!

Have you imported settings? I remember a user having an issue like this when he had imported settings. If I remember correctly the marketing setting doesn't get imported but will say it is disabled because it was disabled on the original machine. You need to enable it and then disable it and that should fix it

Are you worried about not passing the fingerprinting test; I assume that's the one you failed? Wilderssecurity.com has thread/s on this. It takes a bit of work to pass the fingerprinting test.

I suppose the problem is you can block too much. I've had to unblock trackers to allow things to work. The test in the link didn't give me a good score so I wasn't sure if I was better using something else other than adblock plus and blur

  17. 6 minutes ago, itman said:

i get nothing from Eset in the way of an alert. I also temporarily disabled uBlock Orgin to see if that might be the problem. Same behavior from Eset - no alerting in anyway.

Note that @stackz also confirmed the same issue occurs on his installation.

What ver. of Windows are you using; e.g. Win 10 1909.

It might be because I'm using a beta version of eset and the problem is fixed. I'm also using 1909

  18. 2 hours ago, itman said:

It also appears the problem only applies to Google Search. If I chose Bing, the PUA alert is shown correctly.

One possibility is a conflict with built-in Google Search anti-malware protection. It is not only blocking the connection, but also Eset's PUA alert.

Does this still happen. As noted I tried on mobile earlier, haven't tried again. However just on my desktop now - googled PCRISK and clicked the first link and got the Potentially unwanted content found alert in the browser

  19. So I used Eff's Panopticlick today which seemed to say my computer wasn't fully safe from adverts and tracking https://panopticlick.eff.org/

I use chrome with the extensions Adblock Plus for blocking adverts and Blur for blocking trackers. I have seen some people on here talk about stuff such as ublock so I was just wondering what do people use and recommend. I feel privacy is something that is coming more and more important, especially with the risk that our data is not only being taken and often sold without our permission but that this data can often later be stolen e.g. from hackers. Just wondering what people on here use?

New to ESET, love it so far. Caught a few issues on my brand new rig.

Have to say though, if all the computer cleaning applications are marked as potentially harmful (not only the programs themselves but many of the websites), ESET should be providing us with at least a junk/cache/uninstalled programs cleaner.

    Best,

This has been asked before. Some AVs do Include these but it's debate if it is a security feature as it's more of a clean up utility than a security feature. For that reason eset has up to know focused on just security.

I should add they do have a tool for restoring windows settings back to their default settings which can be used when trying to recover from an infection. However this feature is only recommended when dealing with malware leftovers.

As itman has also mentioned Windows itself does have a cleanup feature
