Thanks for that. It gives me some pointers to a suitable replacement for ESET products. Although I still have a few months before my unrenewable multi-device licence runs out I have to make a decision soon.
-
The trouble is (and this is not the first time I have said so) the licence was purchased from Antivirus Australia.

Change of Representation in Australia

The question on renewal of multi-device licences has been raised several times in this thread and, thus far, studiously ignored. -
Change of Representation in Australia

This is supposed to be a support forum. There is a simple question here. How do ESET customers in Australia renew a multi-device licence? -

I am not looking forward to having to evaluate competing products but it doesn't seem like I have any choice -
Change of Representation in Australia

So, at the moment, the multi-device licence appears to be a one-time licence. Also, there have been comments on low market penetration in Australia. Most Windows PCs come with a pre-installed security product and, generally speaking, purchasers find it easier to just get a licence for the product that the PC came with. -
Change of Representation in Australia

Wow this sounds like a complete mess. In January this year I purchased a new licence (ESET Multi-Device Security supplied with 2 different user names) from Antivirus Australia (and on their advice) because of issues I had with my previous (business) licence. From the above it sounds like ESET doesn't have access to account details of licences previously issued by Antivirus Australia. I have no problems with the current ESET products I am using but I am going to need to see evidence that this mess has been cleaned up before I make a decision to renew. -
This is why I am looking for another product https://forum.eset.com/topic/4740-change-of-representation-in-australia/

Well I am planning to switch to something else, after quite a few years as an ESET customer. So any recommendations are welcome

Change of Representation in Australia

I wouldn't be surprised if ESET Australia is not aware of the existence of this forum. In any case ESET is obviously reluctant to talk about the change -
Change of Representation in Australia
beancounter replied to beancounter's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for your response. This forum seem to be US-centric so it is possibly too much to expect an official response here. I will try to contact the local distributor and see what sort of response I get. The good news is that at least I have a few months to check out competing products. -

So, since I changed my ESET subscription in January this year (through Antivirus Australia) will this change cause an adverse effect if I elect to renew my subscription next January? -
I just discovered by accident that Antivirus Australia is no longer the ESET distributor in Australia and I can't find any announcement of the change. Being advised of the change would have been appreciated.

Yesterday, after a lengthy email exchange with the local distributor and a (at times quite terse) phone conversation, the source of the issue was identified. I must say that I am totally underwhelmed by the fact that the issue went undetected for more than 2 years and my confidence in ESET has been severely shaken. I briefly considered switching to another security product family. However, since there are only 2 days left in the Christmas break, there is currently not enough time to evaluate other products or search through the email archives to identify which ESET representatives offered the really poor advice that led to this bad experience. Incidentally the support forum link on the Australian ESET site still points to the Wilders forum.

All my business licences are up for renewal at the end of this month so the question is: Does Endpoint Security for Android (1.2.200.129) have an issue updating its signature database while running in the Lollipop environment and, if so, will the problem be fixed before I do the licence renewal thing?
-
I cleared the data and went through the setup process again. It seems to be happy for now. I daresay I will find out in a month's time if the problem was some sort of glitch caused by the phone being updated to Lollipop or if the signature database is not being updated. The windows boxes in the office can all report the date and version number of the signature database and I have always seen the inability of the Android version to do the same as a major weakness. Unfortunately ESET has never acknowledged my repeated suggestion that the weakness should be fixed.

Mobile Anti-Virus "Not Needed"

The Google lead engineer for Android security has apparently declared that security software products for Android are "unnecessary" and that those who use such a product will likely receive no protection from it. Of course this can't be regarded as an unbiased view.

Android mobile security crashing
beancounter replied to beancounter's topic in ESET Products for Mobile Devices
Thanks. ESET Mobile Security back to running normally on both my ICS tablet and Kit-Kat phone. I assume this issue was caused by something in a signature data update and I would like to repeat my feature request for the signature version and date to be visible (as it is in the PC software) -
Has there been a dodgy signature update for ESET security for Android recently? I have it installed on a tablet running ICS and a phone running Kit-Kat and, on both devices, ESET security of Android keeps crashing
-
With ESET Endpoint running on my Windows PCs I can see the virus signature database version number and the time and date of the most recent update. On my Android devices I get no such indication and there is no way to determine when the virus signature database was last updated. This would be a really desirable feature.
