Wrong version reported

This is despite a manual uninstall, reboot, and reinstall via task.

 

Can anyone suggest where i start troubleshooting please?

Could you please restart the AGENT service on the target machine? Are there any errors in AGENT's trace.log? There is a chance fetching installed applications fails for some reason and therefore old state is reported. If possible search windows registry (regedit) on client machine for string "6.3.2012.0" to be sure there are no remnants of previous version. Are there multiple machines with this problem or only this one?

Hi Martin, I've restarted the service (and I've also restarted the machine). In fact tese are the steps I've taken:

 

- Performed in-place upgrade from 6.3 to 6.4 (via ERA). Client reports 6.4 when I open the GUI, but it reports 6.3 back to ERA

- Uninstalled 6.3 and rebooted, then manually installed 6.4

- Deleted the computer from ERA and let it re-add itself to Lost and Found.

 

I have searched the registry, and 6.3.2012 does not appear.

 

The client machine looks okay - no 6.3 in registry, GUI shows 6.4 etc. The only symptoms of a problem are in the data reported back to ERA, or ERA itself.

 

It's only this one machine.

Looking again, the OS and version are also not being reported:

 

 

Yet the client is checking in okay, and looking on the client, 6.4 is correctly installed.

ok so I've now removed and reinstalled the agent, and it has successfully checked back in to ERA but isn't reporting ANY installed applications. So it looks like the Agent has a problem.

 

Can anyone suggest the next steps please?

Please check AGENT's trace log (C:\ProgramData\ESET\RemoteAdministrator\Agent\EraAgentApplicationData\Logs\trace.log) for errors - especially those just after service startup. It seems AGENT is not able to fetch system information. We have seen similar issues when WMI provider was not running properly.

It is problem with WMI provider on this system. Please check whether system is matching prerequisites of this windows KB: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2465990

Thanks Martin. That KB is only for Windows 7/2008 etc. - this is Windows 10 - but you put me on the right tracks. I've rebuilt the WMI repository and reboooted, and it's now reporting correctly.

 

For anyone who comes across this thread in the future:

 

1. Open a CMD prompt as Administrator
2. Stop the winmgmt service (Windows Management Instrumentation)
3. Rename C:\Windows\System32\wbem\repository to something else
4. Start the winmgmt service
5. In the CMD prompt Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\wbem\
6. Run the following commands:
7. for /f %s in ('dir /b *.mof') do mofcomp %s
8. for /f %s in ('dir /b en-us\*.mfl') do mofcomp en-us\%s

Reboot.
