Android: Firewall without root, packet analysis (independent web and phishing protection)

Recommended Posts

With a small trick it is possible to have a Firewall on Android without root access. This trick is quite simple.

On Android 4.0 or higher you can built a VPN connection, which redirects all network traffic though an application which "simulates" this VPN.

Then it can filter this traffic. This way many features ESET has in ESS e.g. are possible, like:

  • firewall
  • application-independent phishing protection
  • application-independent web protection/protocol filtering

So if ESET could implement this in EMS the app would be even more powerful.

And it works - you can see this e.g. at this app: NoRoot Firewall
