  1. you think that the company will support a retired OS forever?

no! 2-3 more versions and they might discontinue it.

think about it. when OS companies (linux, microsoft, apple, etc.) stop supporting their older products, it means that no new features and security updates are released for the retired products, which in turn mean that since no security updates are released, it is left vulnerable to whatever attack may rise in the future.

and if a vulnerability X won't be patched in the OS, the AV company will have to make huge efforts to try and lower the impact on the affected computers. that costs time, money and a lot of work from the developers.

but everyone can start saving money to buy one in the future ;)

  2. just because you lost the internet conenction for 3 seconds, doesnt mean that you were flooded or a ddos attack was performed against you.

with every new major version the firewall is upgraded and made even more secure than the last. so as long as you stay updated in both the OS (in your case Win XP is no longer supported and you should consider upgrading to a newer OS), and you keep your AV updated you will be fine.

  3. and obviously you started it in the wrong section.

anyway MS is downloading the upgrade to eligible computers even if you didn't select to reserve it, in case you decide later that you want it and you don't have to wait for the entire OS to download to the computer.

after all the upgrade process won't start unless you explicitly select to start it.

  4. before accusing someone learn proper english. despise not despite ;)

now there could be tens of issues as to why the download is stuck at 0% or at 99% for hours.

also most of the updates are cumulative and some replace the others so if a few years back you downloaded 200 updates after the format, and now only 100 is visible, that means that the other updates are replaced by newer ones.

also some updates take very long time to install, for example the .Net Framework.
