I'm still on ESET 8 for I did to not like ESET 9 firewall rule ui for the time being. I noticed now a ! in the taskbar and see that it wants me to upgrade. Is there a way to get rid of this notification as I want the ! to go away. Also, what difference in the versions between 380 and 381? 380 is the download version on ESET website while 381 is the upgrade install version being presented to me through ESET 8.

AV-Comparatives: Performance-Test October 2015
Morisato replied to Super_Spartan's topic in General Discussion
hxxp://chart.av-comparatives.org/chart1.php?chart=chart4&year=2015&month=10&sort=1 Still doesn't beat this ESET is fast for me in that I don't use the HTTP scan feature since I already use adblocks with a malware domain list and such with enough protection to not warrant it. -
Loving this feature. Windows never notifies me of patch Tuesday's until I see the ! on Eset's taskbar icon telling me my windows isn't up to date. It even shows you the list of updates available as well. It keeps showing me 'Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro' even though it never shows in the update list for Windows Update though.

Wanted to get an opinion on how you guys feel about the navigation of the new firewall rules window. Personally I didn't like it in ESS 9 where it felt more of a jumbled mess (imo) where you needed to expand the tabs to see what you wanted. In ESS 8 you had the title of where the .exe came from and the icons that came with it for ease of quick search (minus the search function itself which is apparent in ESS 9). Maybe there is an easier way to sort through this in ESS 9 but I haven't found it as of yet. ESS 9 ESS 8

Should probably make a warning message before they fiddle with settings they don't understand. A if you proceed, your system will not be fully protected then they have to agree/disagree to continue and a check box to 'do not show again' message as well. That way you won't be held liable for a bad product because you warned them and that if they do continue, it's their stupidity that will be held accountable. Shouldn't have to punish/annoy those that 'do' know what they're doing with all these blaring warning signs. It was totally fine in ESET 8 but its become an issue in ESET 9.

NOD32 just updated to v9.0.141.0
Morisato replied to Super_Spartan's topic in ESET Beta Products for Home Users
Yeah I know about all that already. I was merely wondering if there will an RC release before final and if 141 was stable enough to just use daily without much worry even though it's still in the Beta stage that was all. Since you confirmed that it's stable enough, I'll just test drive and use it normally until the final is out. Also, I wasn't asking about release dates whatsoever as Marcos already gave an estimate (https://forum.eset.com/topic/5860-nod32-just-updated-to-v901410/#entry32396). They can take all the time they need. -
hxxp://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2015-09/17/avg-privacy-policy-browser-search-data Allows the retention of browser history and the ability to sell that information on to third parties. I'm guessing ESET doesn't have anything to worry about, right?

NOD32 just updated to v9.0.141.0
Morisato replied to Super_Spartan's topic in ESET Beta Products for Home Users
I notice this is still in the beta stages but will it get any RC releases or will it just go straight to final somewhere in October? Wondering if it's stable enough to just install the 9.0.114 version. -
If you use an ad-blocker then we redirect you to malware.
Morisato replied to SweX's topic in General Discussion
Is that site safe? If that's the site doing the malvertising... I wonder why people can't make ads that appear for like 3-5 then just auto-hides itself. That way there would be no need for adblockers. I mean the ads are there for the site view count no? I doubt anyone with adblocks would click on them anyway much less anyone else not using adblockers unless by accident. -
Thanks Peter for the info. Once I disable Rollback, the backup files still remain though unfortunately. Can I delete the whole backup folder as well after disabling the snapshots? Update: Nvm, works. You can delete the folder and once you press update, it will re-create the backup folder if Rollback is enabled. 29 files for 1 rollback and 39 files for 2 and so on. Increments to about 50mb per rollback number.

#:\ProgramData\ESET\ESET Smart Security\backup #:\ProgramData\ESET\ESET Smart Security\updfiles What's in these? I am going to assume updfiles is where the updates of the virus database is but the backup folder I am not sure of. Maybe it relates to the Rollback? Pretty large the folders are as well so I'm trying to clean up. Update: Nvm found out updfiles is where the update cache is and that can be cleared under the update options.

CCleaner
Morisato replied to Handries's topic in ESET Internet Security & ESET Smart Security Premium
Strange... decided to turn on web access protection -> http check to test the download links on piriform. I finally do get it if a wait a couple seconds after pressing the download button. Strange how there is no warning given about it when installing said app though. No toolbar was ever installed when I installed my CCleaner (including the updates thereafter); maybe due to the fact that once you opt-out once it stays like that for all updates? Also, hxxp://forum.piriform.com/?showtopic=40552 should explain it in more detail and was supposedly addressed. -
CCleaner
Morisato replied to Handries's topic in ESET Internet Security & ESET Smart Security Premium
Well, slim is very slim and has nothing in it either, and is offered as a download too. True that but I was getting mixed reports of it may be having it or not from the posts before for some reason. -
Fake License for ESET
Morisato replied to Mohimen's topic in ESET Internet Security & ESET Smart Security Premium
Funny how that site only shows a activate your key and nothing else is clickable besides the text fields alone. That is already a false-flag sign. Can't even click on the ESET icon itself nor highlight any other text. I'm also guessing your friend is a cheap person so he bought it at some site that was selling it for dirt cheap. Did the software come in a box or did he just download some .exe from said scam site? Frankly any intellectual person would get the .exe (should be .msi) from the official site but licenses on the other hand is a different story. I am also getting the feeling your friend either bought a pirated version or downloaded one... too many red flags here in this case. -

Not sure why you're all using the Standard or Slim versions when Pro version has nothing in it and is offered as a download. hxxp://download.piriform.com/ccsetup504pro.exe Never had any issues with that one but then again I don't use web scanning as that slightly slows my fast browsing experience. I just know ESET doesn't complain about me installing Pro. -
Poor AV-TEST Results
Morisato replied to GTBFiorano's topic in ESET Internet Security & ESET Smart Security Premium
I find it funny how you're all comparing which AV is better when in the end, ESET has the least/fewest FALSE POSITIVES of them all. That I consider important when doing my scans (one of them anyway). Bitdefender may have all those scores but it has many FP's. Never even heard of 360 Antivirus (from China so I guess Qihoo?), and haven't used Kaspersky since a long time ago (someone needs to do a Kaspersky vs ESET comparison for performance). -
HIPS config options lists?
Morisato replied to Morisato's topic in ESET Internet Security & ESET Smart Security Premium
For instance, it means that if an application attempts to modify hosts file, you will be prompted to allow or deny the action. Thanks for the advice and those that contributed as well. Also, does it also protect against MBR direct access to disk, system registry entries, injections, and autoruns or are those only through manual addition to the hips rules?
