  1. What a crock!  I have just disabled this feature as it's such a blunt instrument.  I downloaded a new version of a small utility I've used for years and after 10 minutes I still couldn't install it as Live Guard was still analysing it.  Guess what? Live Guard has now been disabled.  When downloading a file there needs to be an option to bypass/ignore Live Guard for those niche programs that most advanced users will use.  'Analysis' against a database will always cause issues/delays for these niche programs.

  2. Some years ago I tried to get ESET's password manager to work and couldn't and initially went with LastPass.  I ditched it following a data breach and the move to only offer the free product to one device.  Now with Bitwarden and it's excellent.

NB. I haven't recently tried to get ESET's offering working.

Please elaborate more on this. The live installer is quite small and other files are downloaded during installation. Normally the download speed is several MB/s but it may differ with the region. If the download speed was slow and you are able to reproduce it, please contact your local ESET distributor for troubleshooting.

The installation hung twice with a message that I can't recall.  It was a single word such as 'Progressing' or 'Processing.'  On rebooting after the second instance of hanging (I waited for around 15 minutes) ESET showed as v14.2.23.0 though there we several settings that hadn't bee read across from the previous installation.

Today we've made version 14.2.19 the latest available due to an issue found in v14.2 23 which is being addressed. A new hotfix will be available soon.

Yesterday I was unable to update to 14..2.23 via selecting 'Check for Updates' within the programme.  I went  to the website to download and  install the latest version which didn't go at all smoothly.

Interesting that you've now pulled v14.2.23 but outwith this thread there's no information and no advice if you have already installed v14.2.23.  For key security software this is simply not good enough.

  5. I have been investigating issues with slow browsing using Chrome and MS (Chr)Edge primarily.  I see messages such as:

    Resolving Host

    Waiting for 'www.example.com'

    Establishing Secure Connection

There's a lot of discussion of similar issues on the Malwarebytes forums with no common denominator or solution at this time.  As the only other security software I have on my computer is ESET I decided to have an investigation to see if anything I did improved the situation.  It's only been a few hours but since going to: Setup | Advanced Setup | Web access protection | WEB PROTOCOLS and switching off 'Enable HTTP protocol checking' and 'Enable HTTPS checking' these issues have disappeared and browsing has not resulted in any of the messages being seen for more than a fraction of a second and the speed of rendering new pages/sites is extremely rapid.

Clearly having these items disabled is far from ideal so I'd be grateful if you could look into this and advise on a way forward.  Happy to provide logs and work with ESET staff to further investigate but it will have to be after 5pm UK time.  The issue is not with my internet connection.  I'm currently undertaking an online course using WebEx and have maintained a very good connection throughout from Monday morning until now.

Make sure that you have ESET v12.0.27 installed which addressed the issues with webcam notifications.

Marcos.  ESET v12.0.27 very definitely DOES NOT address the annoyance of these webcam related messages.  It's only slightly different to previously posted i.e. I now receive a message every time Windows boots, the first time the webcam software opens and the first time I use Skype after every reboot.  You always receive a message that webcam access for (insert software name) was allowed.  This despite having previously selected to remember the rule for that particular software.  I don't receive the messages on subsequent uses of the various applications within the same boot of Windows.

It's about not getting a correct change list...

Your first three posts made no mention of the changelog; they didn't even hint at it.  Comments like 'there are no great innovations' and 'Well, I'm not thrilled' add nothing.  So, I ask again: what shortfalls do you believe ESET has and what 'great innovations' do you want to see?

Aryeh Goretsky has stated in another thread: 'A lot of the changes in ESET V12 are either "under the hood" (e.g., not visible from within the GUI) or are refinements of the existing feature set.'

  8. Marcos's solution works aside from the notification at boot that I still receive.  I have Skype start (minimised) with Windows and it is a notification that Skype has been allowed access that I receive at boot up.

ETA: My statement above was not correct.  I am now receiving notifications whenever the webcam is accessed by either Skype or the Logitech software, (and at boot up from Skype).

Try manually adding an allow rule for C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe. I know that Skype runs as a Win service and I suspect also your Logitec software; i.e. as a driver.

I suspect the Eset Webcam rule feature suffers from the same issue the HIPS has in that you cannot create rules for specific Win services.

As far as I can see there's no facility to manually add a rule to the Webcam Protection.

I only use Skype for Desktop and the executable is C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Skype for Desktop\Skype.exe  (I have deleted the second Skype rule).

The Logitech executable is C:\Program Files (x86)\Logitech\LWS\Webcam Software\Launcher_Main.exe

  10. HI Marcos.  The only Firewall in use is ESET's and I'm not using a proxy.  I'm no network engineer and have not used Wireshark previously so am no expert though generally tech savvy.  The problem here is that I cannot predict when you will release a module update and further cannot predict when it will be available to, and downloaded by, my computer.  As I stated originally, manual updates always work.

  11. I totally get that the program is written in American English and it's probably your largest market. The USA uses the ENGLISH language; yes, it's been changed slightly over the years but it's still ENGLISH.  The flag that identifies the language is the UK's Union flag (it could be argued that it should be the English flag but let's not confuse the issue).  I suppose I should be flattered as an Englishman I can work out that the US flag is being used and ESET believes that it must use an erroneous identifying flag to assist the Americans in identifying the appropriate language (with apologies to US citizens here).

I don't know if we have an "official" position on this posted, but afaik our outward-facing support content is written using US English as our style guide and that is why we use the American flag to denote that language record. Same with Spanish actually, we use the Spanish and not Mexican (for example) flag for the same reason (same with Brazilian Portuguese)--the flag represents the localization or style guide of reference, not the country of origin of the language. I realize this might be a fine distinction, but this is how we approach "localization" rather than "translation" when we match the record to a flag.

The language is English.  To add some levity to the argument:
