  1. Personally I have no need of the Ultimate features and those of us who want/need a VPN will already have a solution that we're happy with and know inside out. I already turn off many features of Premium and wonder whether I should downgrade at the next renewal to Essential. Having almost lost data following a hardware failure and an inability to access an Encrypted drive (.eed), to which I knew the password, I'll be looking for an alternate to that feature as well.
  2. It would help many people if you would post in the 'ESET Windows home products version 17.0.15 have been released' thread that the roll out has been halted due to x, y, z. Be open and transparent to build trust with your customers.
  3. Manually selecting 'Check for Updates' doesn't offer me v17. In the UK with Windows 11 23H2. I cant say i'm that desperate to update.
  4. A lesson learnt the hard way. An Intel NUC11PHKi7C (Phantom Canyon) with a 1TB M2 SSD (boot disc with Windows and all program installations) and an 8TB M2 SSD for all my data (document, pictures, video etc.) This latter drive was where the ESET Encrypted Drive.eed was created. There needs to be a means of recovering the contents of an ESET Encrypted Drive.eed when created on a drive (whether boot drive or not) following, for example, a Windows reinstall or, in my case, the failure of the boot drive but the data drive (on which the ESET Encrypted Drive.eed was created) was fine. In these circumstances, this data is irrecoverable.
  5. Yes I am, however, I cannot then open it as when double-clicking on it I receive the same error message - see image. I believe this is because in trying to associate an executable file to the .eed file/folder I have created a problem. Hence my repeated question here and in the support ticket; When double clicking an .eed file which .exe file is supposed to be invoked?
  6. The .eed file/folder is the extension of the wrapper created using ESET Secure Data. The files within it are still there in some form or other as the folder size is reported as 24MB which is what I'd expect. All i need is to get ESET SS Premium to offer a prompt to enter the password to access the files and then I will move them. Hard drive failures are a normal part of computer usage and ownership and I'm struggling to understand why ESET hasn't considered this use case. The current instruction from the tech advisor as a result of submitting the support ticket is to uninstall and reinstall ESET. That will have to wait until later.
  7. I have effectively done that as this is a new build machine. I installed windows on Friday evening and spent much of the weekend installing and setting up all other applications. To emphasise, again: I have Secure Data enabled, I know the password for the encrypted dive but I can't get ESET to offer a prompt where I can enter it. What exe file should the .eed file type be associated with? If I can get an answer to that question I may be able to progress. I have raised a Support ticket for this issue: CASE_00661136
  8. @itman. The catastrophic failure appears to be connected with the interface to the M2 SSD slot in which I had the boot SSD, which is also trashed; I've purchased a new one for the new Intel NUC. A known good M2 SSD was not recognised in the suspect slot. The data M2 SSD is fine and passes all checks..........that take an age as it's 8TB and I'm very thankful for as it was expensive. To clarify, I haven't encrypted the whole of the M2 SSD, I've only created an encrypted folder on this drive.
  9. @itman. Yep, I've read that and the 'if prompted' doesn't happen. I have found no way to enter the password to decrypt the drive. In searching for a solution I can find quite a few requests of a similar nature with no resolution. This is an occurrence i.e. an Encrypted Drive on a drive as part of a system that has failed, where the owner knows the password but can't access the drive when installed in a new system. It is, IMHO, a major oversight and one only apparent when a major system failure occurs.
  10. The default app for the eed file is set to ESET Secure Data BUT this is only because I have had to navigate the ESET Program Files folder and select this exe file. IT IS NOT shown as an 'app' that is available. Hence asking which executable (or other) file should I associate the eed file type with.
  11. I created an encrypted virtual drive with an eed extension as described above. Yes, I have Secure Data enabled. To be clear the virtual encrypted drive was created on an M2 SSD in the failed computer. The M2 SSD is now installed in a newly built computer with a fresh installation of ESET Smart Security Premium, which has Secure data enabled.
  12. Following a catastrophic hardware failure with my computer, I have built another. All my data is stored on a separate drive and is intact (and backed-up). On this Data drive I have an ESET Encrypted Drive that worked perfectly when setup and used on the old machine. However, in the new machine when double-clicking on it I am asked to select an app to open the file with and I'm then taken to the ESET Program Files folder with lots of exe, dll etc. files. Which file should this eed file be associated with? I know the password but there's no way to enter it on a new installation for an Encrypted Dive created on an old installation. I do not want to lose the files within.
  13. This is the first I've ever seen in what I think is around 16/17 years of using the two side-by-side. I don't believe a conflict between ESET Smart security Premium and Malwarebytes is the issue but can't be certain. Even if it is, an issue once every decade (or more) isn't a justification for ceasing using both products.
  14. I've already run the System File Checker command - no issues. A manual scan completed earlier today without issue so I'll have to put it down to a transient issue. To answer your earlier question as to whether I run another AV or security solution; I do, Malwarebytes. I've run the two side-by-side for years without issue but do add exclusions to each of them. I think that's been since 2006/7 since Windows Vista became available in 64-bit.
  15. The screenshot was taken when the scan was hung. The animation was present but that doesn't come across in a screenshot. The small number of files scanned in the System32 directory was because it was hung up part way through.
  16. Hi Marcos. I don't think you've read my post fully as the file in question is listed in the text and shown in the screenshot; cftmon.exe, a Windows file. Having rebooted ESET scans the file fine in isolation. I'll run a further full scan to see what happens.
  17. ESET Smart Security Premium v16.2.13.0 I have a weekly scan set to run at 01:00 on Saturday. As at 11:20 the scan is still running and appears to be stuck on a particular file: C:\windows\system32\ctfmon.exe See the attached screenshot. Any ideas?
  18. Sorry, I mistook v16.1.14 as a future version. What I'd like returned is the information as shown in your screenshot from the older version. Why has it been removed?
  19. Is v16.1.14 available? It's not being offered to me and I see no announcement in the forums that it is.
  20. I have a scan scheduled to run weekly at 01:00 on Saturday, which it does. Previously, once the scan had run the 'Update' menu option on the ESET main screen used to show a summary of the last scan; this is now missing. I confirmed that the scan had run via the log.
  21. As per the title. This is 100% repeatable: if I disable the Firewall I can stream content from my PC via Apple TV to my TV. As soon as I enable the Firewall is stops. This happened to me years ago and I was able to resolve it but nothing I find now relates top the current menu structure. Any advice gratefully received. It's back to using Interactive Mode until I get a resolution.

  24. What a crock! I have just disabled this feature as it's such a blunt instrument. I downloaded a new version of a small utility I've used for years and after 10 minutes I still couldn't install it as Live Guard was still analysing it. Guess what? Live Guard has now been disabled. When downloading a file there needs to be an option to bypass/ignore Live Guard for those niche programs that most advanced users will use. 'Analysis' against a database will always cause issues/delays for these niche programs.
