Continuously high CPU usage while downloading a torrent

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I wanted to update my GIMP today and decided to download it via a qBIttorrent. Even though I'm connected to many sources, the download was hardly progressing, and I noticed also that my system is noticeably sluggish. I opened the Task Manager ans saw that ekrn.exe is continuously using ~30% CPU unless I pause the download. It also seems to be slowing down the download (which contains a signle EXE installer) significantly.

I attached the logs.

Please carry on as follows:

  1. When the issue occurs, enable advanced operating system logging under Tools -> Diagnostics -> Advanced logging in the advanced setup
  2. After 30-60s stop logging
  3. Collect logs with ESET Log Collector and upload the generated archive to a safe location (e.g. OneDrive, Dropbox,...) and drop me a personal message with a download link.

Also please turn off logging of all blocked operations in the advanced HIPS setup.

QBittorrent downloads files in chunks and closes the handle to the file after each chunk is written which triggers a file scan and this repeats about 40 times.

You might want to try enabling this setting:

and adding D:\Downloads\*.!qB to the performance exclusions list.
