  1. Hi dharmil007,

The link below will allow you to download the installer file for ESS 6.0.316. It's a later version than you specified, but with older versions we try to make the most recent build available. You can always use our Knowledgebase article "How do I download and install older versions of ESET products" if you're looking for a version that's no longer current.

  2. Hi Clyde,

Security updates to Windows are released by Microsoft as part of regular Windows updates. There is no way for ESET to continue to offer this service because only Microsoft themselves can publish and distribute updates to their products.

ESET customers who use Windows XP will still receive full support from ESET as long as they have a valid license. This includes regular virus signature database and product updates for your ESET product. It is important to note that while your ESET product will still be fully supported, new exploits or vulnerabilities discovered in Windows XP might expose your system to threats because of the fact that Microsoft will no longer release updates to patch these types of issues.

  3. It seems i have misled you Mike, my apologies. I have confirmed with one of our technicians that we cannot at this time view a log specifically from the startup scan. If threats were found, you would of course be notified. We are looking into making logs from the startup scan available in a future version of the ESET Endpoint Antivirus and ESET Endpoint Security.

  4. Hi everyone,

@Megachip, the answer to your question is yes, and it's already available. The latest version of ESET Remote Administrator (ERA) allows you to perform remote installation to Mac OS X clients. Here is a link to instructions on how to update ERA. Once you have the most recent version, the push install can be performed using the same procedure you would use to push to a Windows machine.

  5. Hi,

Marcos is right, the firewall should be completely functional in automatic mode right out of the box, you should not have to make any changes. I will however, suggest that you visit our Knowledgebase and search for any questions you do have.

One of the first firewall related operations you might see when working with ESET Smart Security is the New Network Connection Detected dialog. You can read about the different settings available and decide which are best for you in this article. We have quite a few additional articles on using the Personal firewall. They are categorized by issue, so I encourage you to search the knowledgebase (you might want to use the drop-down menu at the top to filter for firewall as your problem type).

  6. MJS051,

This type of real-world example is impossible to duplicate in an office setting, and we will bear in mind your observations and suggestions in the development of future support and training content. I have passed your posting here along to my colleagues who work with the Cybersecurity Training program. Thanks for taking the time to share these insights with us, I'm glad that your girlfriend and your parents had a good experience!

  7. IIMadManII,

What you're seeing might be the phantom account created by ESET Anti-Theft. Near the end of this article you'll find a definition of the feature. It basically exists so that in the event that your device is lost or stolen, the thief is auto-logged in to the phantom account that does not have access to your sensitive materials. It typically takes the name "John" but maybe there was a glitch in your case that caused it to choose such an odd name.

  8. Ok,

Can you please try these steps and let me know if it resolves your issue.

    1. open the System Preferences panel

    2. go to Accounts [OSX 10.6.8] or "User & Groups" [OSX 10.8.3]

    3. unlock the account modification by clicking the lock button and entering admin's credentials

    4. right-click on user's account, select advanced options and enter 'staff' without quotes to the group box and save it. (this is probably your profile name currently)

    5. restart the Mac
