ESET’s Free Online Scanner - Unable to download updated modules - percentage increases and starts over and then program quits

First time I'm trying to run this software.      Windows 11 - Using AVG currently. Windows firewall

I cannot get the online scanner to update and start scanning my system. 

Errors
"The system is downloading module update" the percentage goes up and then back to zero, and starts climbing again. 
- This happens multiple times and the program terminates (ie program just ceases to operate). 

- If it manages to jump up to 100% an error says ""ESET scanner couldn't download the module update. Your product is now outdated which may affect the detection of new types of threats. We recommend that you check your internet connection or proxy server settings and try updating again"
( I am NOT using any proxy server and I have checked and I can contact the ESET server https://support.eset.com/en/kb2850-troubleshooting-for-modules-update-failed-message )

I have manually removed the online scanner and reinstalled it. Same issues as above happen. 
Nb. I have reason to believe there might be something in my computer.
