  1. Hi,

I'm currently running version 9.0.381 and I checked for updates this morning. Version 9.0.402 was proposed, I clicked on Install and I got the following error :

Product update ended with an error

    Communication with driver failed.

    What next ?

    Thanks.

  2. Hi,

Now there's a new bug about this feature. Yesterday, I tried to re-enable Outlook Integration and I could see that the duplicate emails bug was still there. So this morning, I decided to disable this option. ESET NOD32 immediately told me that " Email protection by client plugins [was] non-functional". I looked in the setup and could see that Email Protection had actually been disabled although the "Enable email protection by client plugins" was enabled. Totally inconsistent.

I re-enabled Email Protection but the alert about "Email protection by client plugins is non-functional" will not go away.

  3. Hi,

OK. The problem is on the Windows 10 side. WIn10 doesn't allow to see optional updates which may or may not be installed (one could wonder how the decision is made). ESET sees them and therefore warns against the non up-to-date system.

The solution is to use the Windows Update Minitool utility which allows to install these updates that Win10 didn't install.

Why Microsoft are hiding some updates from the users remains a mystery.

  4. The information about missing updates is provided by the operating system. ESET does not use any other mechanism to determine this information.

    Hi,

So I should also see the same list of available updates when opening Windows Update ? This is not the case, though. Windows Update says "system up-to-date" even after a new search for updates.

  5. Problem still there.

As soon as Outlook integration is enabled, I'm getting duplicate emails. It seems that this is related to Outlook rules. When I get an email that satisfies a rule (which generally moves the email to a specific folder), I get 2 copies of it : one in the Inbox and one in the folder specified by the rule.

  6. The variable is crucial for Java Exploit Blocker to work. You can try disabling exploit blocker and restarting the computer, however, you will lose one of the protection layers.

If blocking a security threat involves creating an environment variable that breaks some basic rules of the Windows environment and causes some applications to fail or crash, I'm wondering where is the benefit. Let's push the concept : if I want an absolutely safe environment, I can decide to not power on my PC. No virus, no apps. Let's be serious! This modification of the system environment is a bug and the fact that it breaks some applications should be advertised. Period.

  7. Hi,

I'd really like to get rid of these constant SSL warnings whenever I connect to the forum, whatever the browser used. For example in Chrome :

This is probably not the site you are looking for!

You attempted to reach forum.eset.com, but instead you actually reached a server identifying itself as enterprise-ssl.invisionpower.com. This may be caused by a misconfiguration on the server or by something more serious. An attacker on your network could be trying to get you to visit a fake (and potentially harmful) version of forum.eset.com.You should not proceed, especially if you have never seen this warning before for this site.

There is no way to fix this on my side. Please do something about your certificates.

    Bump!

  9.

Wrong! This machine actually has an integrated card reader.

A delay while opening the on-demand scanner window has been observed with certain removable devices. Please create a Process monitor log from the moment you attempt to open the scanner window.

Please note that this happens with any menu item in the main window. Not only the on-demand scanner window. Actually this always happens with the first menu item that I click on in the left pane when opening the ESET main window for the time in a given window session, as explained above.

What do you mean with process monitor? The Process Monitor tool from sysinternals.com ?

  10. Hi,

When I "Open ESET NOD32 antivirus 7" from the tray icon, the first time I click on a menu item in the left pane (Tools for example), it takes about 15 seconds until the menu items are actually displayed in the right pane. After that, there's no delay. If I re-open ESET NOD32, there's no problem... until the next Windows session.

    Why ?

  11. What version of Firefox are you running?

I have this problem with Chrome version 33.0.1750.154 m . As mentioned above, I have had this problem in the past but for the moment, it's ok.

Are you using SSL scanning with ESET? Have you imported the certificate properly into Firefox if so ?

Yes. Second question irrelevant since the problem is with Chrome (but the answer is yes).

The fact that you had a problem getting to the site shows more that the site is well guarded and locked down, rather than vulnerable in my opinion.

Ahem, I would just say that there is some inconsistency with the SSL certificate management and / or the domain name management. By the way, I also have the same problem with Internet Explorer :

There is a problem with this website’s security certificate.

The security certificate presented by this website was issued for a different website's address.

Security certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the server.

We recommend that you close this webpage and do not continue to this website.

I no longer have the problem with Firefox after tweaking the SSL settings.

This issue is only appearing on this forum. I'm visiting many other forums and I don't have any similar problem.

I guess this problem will always occur when the server is setup to return the very same certificate whatever the alias used to access the forum. However, the ESET forum is not the only forum hosted by a third-party company, so something must be wrong in the server settings.

Not exactly what one would expect when visiting this site. I have had similar problems with this forum under Firefox but they had probably the same cause : inconsistency between the site address and the SSL certificate. Should this happen on the ESET forum  :D ?
  13. Hi Marcos,

If I remove filezilla.exe from the exclusion list, switch to "Ask about non-visited sites" , launch Filezilla and try again to update, there's no error and no question asked about excluding or accepting a certificate.

If I switch again to "Always scan SSL protocol", the same error as reported above appears again.

Since I don't want to stay in interactive mode, the only solution is as described above : adding filezilla.exe to the list of applications excluded from protocol filtering

  14. Hi,

I just tried to update Filezilla and the operation failed because "the root certificate is not trusted".

    Status: Disconnected from server
    Status: Downloading /updatecheck.php?platform=i586-pc-mingw32msvc&version=3.7.4.1&osversion=6.1&osarch=64
    Status: Resolving address of update.filezilla-project.org
    Status: Connecting to [2a01:4f8:160:7342::4]:443...
    Status: Connection established, initializing TLS...
Error: Root certificate is not trusted
Error: Disconnected from server: ECONNABORTED - Connection aborted
    Error: Disconnected from server
    Error: File transfer failed

I had to add filezilla.exe to the list of applications excluded from protocol filtering in order to make a successful update.
