  1. CCleaner has never been an issue for me either and i use the 32bit version of firefox as the 64 bit version has always been terrible. Firefox's memory usage scales in line with the amount of ram you have in your system. I have 16gb and that is why i go between 200 - 300mb, dependent n the amount of tabs i have open.

I never had the problem on ESS v6 , even with HIPS/AMS turned off i still have the problems on v7.

Slight conflict between v7 and firefox seems plausible as the cause of the slowdowns.

  2. Have noticed when installing other security tools when using v7 of ESS, that there appears to be an issue with the firewall.

When installing Spybot S&D (spybotsd-2.1.21-SR2), pop up for firewall appears and when you tick the box to remember your choice and press ALLOW , gives the message "Failed to read firewall configuration". Cant remember offhand what the other applications were but they are all display the same message when the firewall is on INTERACTIVE mode, i cant say if this applies to automatic mode as i don't use that option.

Might have been hitman pro that gave the same error "Failed to read firewall configuraton"

Also spybot fails to load one of its services at the same time when installing post-933-0-28465800-1378498761_thumb.jpg

  3. I too experience the issues with webpages not loading and have to use the refresh button at times but was unsure as to what the problem was, as i use firefox 24 beta and thought that it may have been related to a issue within the beta of firefox. Internet explorer 10 seems to be unaffected though.

The memory footprint of firefox is crazy nowadays and its nothing that ess is causing, but maybe a browser using 200mb of ram combined with AMS is what's causing the slowdowns and webpage loading times. IE10 by comparison uses 8.5mb.

Long gone are the days when firefox was a lean & fast browser.

  4. Hello,

we were able to find the root cause of the issue and the Dev team already proposed a solution.

It should be available tomorrow via automatic updates, restart of system will be needed.

We know that this bug may be annoying, but we always concentrate our efforts to ensure maximal protection of our users.

This particular bug is not lowering the security in any way as far as the updates are downloaded and applied on the background so the full protection is ensured.

    Thank you for understanding.

Good news that you managed to find the problem :) , and as protection was not reduced (virus defs still updated) and it never affected the performance of the machine it was running on then it was only a minor bug. Spinning tray icon is not really a prob if you hide them ;)
